It absolutely offends me when someone says "keep politics out of business."
It's not politics. It's human rights. It's constitutional crisis. It's about your neighbors and community members being threatened and forced to live in fear.

You either live your values, or you don't.
Choose your side.

Yesterday I assembled a cheap small desk by myself. While working with many screws, I was thinking about the "A-ha!" moment I had while watching the sitcom "Murphy Brown" in the early 90's. Watching a couple of sitcoms then for me was a real-life English lesson. Anyways, the episode was about the not-so-bright plumber, being taught "righty tighty, lefty loosey." I've always had the right-and-left-confusion, and that was a light bulb moment. Every time I turn screws, I think about it. 1/🧵

Before then, I was turning screws/faucets in the direction that worked. I'd try both ways until I figured it out. I recently discovered that keys worked the same way. I didn't tell anyone, but it was another A-ha! moment. I still have this weird R-L confusion (and a horrible sense of directions -- they must be related), but most of the time I can handle it. Anyway, the desk is for a small printmaking station. I'm happy. These are two monoprints I made. Never too old to learn new things. end/🧵

A small monoprint that has an impression of four plant leaves. Rusty brown, yellow and mossy green. Textured.

It was a beautiful day.

I was in the gallery today hanging my wall. Because of two outside exhibits back-to-back, my wall is a bit underwhelming and I felt guilty. This was the largest and also my favorite among what I had, until this afternoon. Apparently a young man came in and bought it, so I'm going to have to find something else for the empty spot. This must be my last sales of 2025!

Day 24
If I'm right about how this advent thing works, today is the last day of this best hashtag on Fediverse. I think this might be my fourth year participating, and of course I had a blast. Thank you for following along. I hope your year is filled with arts, kindness, joy and sciences!

"Spring Dream"
pastel on UART paper - 24x24 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/spring-dream/1046456

I painted this back in 2023, but it's still one of the largest paintings I've done. Also my favorite.

Day 21
"Thoughts 3"
mixed media on printmaking paper - 14x12 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/thoughts-3/1107394

This is a rework of my mixed media piece "Thoughts 3" I originally created in 2022. Added more lights, and framed in lighter colored frame to avoid looking too dark. I think it worked.
Oil, pan pastel, and pastel are used.

Day 20
"First Sunlight"
pastel on UART paper - 18x24 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/first-sunlight/1075945

There's nothing like just rolling off the bed, running outside and start painting. This is based on a plein air painting I did at my friend's house while housesitting for them in 2023.

Day 19
"Winter's Remains"
pastel on UART paper - 16x12 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/winters-remains/1117306

Painted in 2024. Driving on I-80 into Utah mid March for husband's first cancer treatment; some snow still left on the ground, and the far mountains are covered with snow. Cold, cold wind, my eyes water, but I'm trying to find a bright spot in this landscape.

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/on-a-sandy-hill-2/1196112

From my first visit to Lahontan Reservoir few years ago.
Hot off the easel, and it's going to the framer today. I hope it'll be ready for my January show...

"Birthday Hike"
pastel on Wallis paper - 7x5 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/birthday-hike/1184424

A birthday hike with friends on a hot late summer day, at Sierra Valley Nature Preserve.

This painting was awarded with the 1st Place in Pastel in Latimer Art Club's 18th Annual Statewide Miniature Show in October 2025. It is now at the home of the model ☺️

Day 13
"Last Chance Ditch"
pastel on UART paper - 12x9 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/last-chance-ditch/1188919

My recent favorite -- I used to struggle with this paper size, but now I do OK. This is near the end of the trail I'd never been on. Something felt a little off; hard to explain. Felt like I wasn't supposed to be there... later I learned that it was the end of the ditch canal that is named Last Chance Ditch.

Day 12
"On a Sandy Hill"
pastel on UART paper - 10x8 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/on-a-sandy-hill/1195766

New piece again! This is from my first visit to Lahontan Reservoir in October 2022. I was completely alone, and it was so quiet my ears hurt.

Day 10
"Lahontan"
pastel on Canson Touch paper (sepia) - 10x20 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/lahontan/1195500

Late afternoon in November, Lahontan Reservoir was so very quiet. The sandy hill covered with spent rabbitbrush was a great vantage point. Just finished this, so on the day 10, I can finally post a new piece!

Day 9
"Rosewood"
pastel on Canson Touch paper - 18x20 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/rosewood/1103602

I painted this plein air at Rosewood Nature Study Area in Reno, NV, back in June 2023. My plein air pieces usually get put away because I'm never happy with them, but this one actually sat around, facing me, until I finally decided that I liked enough to be professionally framed.

It was a beautiful day at an incredibly scenic location. It's hard to pick a view to paint.

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/eureka-nv/1119478

"Survivor"
pastel on homemade surface - 7x5 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/survivor/1136142

This was a pine tree that survived a wildfire near the state border. This went to a woman whose husband recently went through an accident and subsequent rehabilitation at the same hospital where my husband received his cancer treatment.

Continuing with the sailplane theme... Pilot’s POV, based on an aerial video by a friend, Pete Casti, with permission. Soaring near Pyramid Lake, NV
Now this painting is in possession of another sailplane pilot.

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/early-morning-runway-prepared-framed-/1006525

Based on my plein air day at Air Sailing Gliderport, Reno NV. Painted in 2022, but it's still one of my husband's favorites.

A massive rabbitbrush right on the trail called "Last Chance Ditch." I have to find out the reasons behind the naming.

"The Heat of August"

Flowers blooming on the terrace of Huntsman Cancer Institute, Salt Lake City. It takes special kind of flowers to thrive in the August Utah heat.

I've had one of those very low energy/mood day today. After accompanying husband to his doctor's appointment, the only thing I did was to take down a painting and put up a new sheet of paper on my easel. But I got to sit out and enjoy the incredible evening colors in the sky. So, that's something. Truly one of the prettiest cloud shows I've ever seen.

"A Morning on Skyline"
pastel on UART paper - 12x9 in

https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamami-tokutake/a-morning-on-skyline/1178457

K8, our late German Shepherd, loved walking in this park by a deep canyon. Come to think of it, maybe she loved it because I loved the view so much.
(I found a deep crease on the paper an hour into the painting. Oh well, a freebee paper... Then I realized that it actually looks like a small trail. A scale is wrong, but it's actually not that bad!)

Yesterday I went to two art receptions. It's a reception season! If my artist friends supported me for my show, I should at least show up and support them in return. The first one at Sierra Arts Foundation was a blast. My friend John McCarthy had an amazing, beautifully curated wall of collages. One came home with me! 1/🧵

First time I got to paint on the famous Wallis pastel paper that is no longer in production. Now I know why pastelists loved it.

Went out for a hike after a day of horrendous wind. The clouds were lifting.

I'm really grateful for everyone who liked, boosted, and commented on this painting. Mastodon rocks.

Evans Creek, Northwest Reno, Nevada. One of my favorite hiking trails. And yes, the sky was that blue. Initially I was going to title this "Sky over Evans Creek." Which is better?
