If we never invented Kubernetes we'd never have invented SRE teams that have spent years defining custom configuration languages to put stuff on kubernetes.

I know what services I need to run, and what ports I need to open - but instead of documenting a standard these fuckers have four different toolchains I need to completely learn.

Hey us or are there good resources on kernel design/philosophy you can recommend me? Asking for a friend (who, somehow, isn't me)

@beeoproblem I just always spell it wrong. My bad.

I know someone has solved this problem:
I have a coworker who has transitioned and wishes to fix the work git commit history to reflect her name. I know someone has figured out how to do this easily. Is there a way I can do a mass commit amendment?

To reiterate, what I want out of a phone:

  • Headphone jack
  • Square corners on screen, no rounded edges
  • No holes in screen
  • Smol like my hands
  • Ability to install and distribute my own software
  • Ability to turn off anything that bugs me
  • Ability, when reading ebooks, to silence visual "noise" like clocks or navbars
  • I want to neither monetarily nor in platform political power support a company that sells "AI"-branded features as part of their business activities

@mcc unihertz.com/collections/jelly…

not sure how valuable smol is - but this is all for it. I admit, Unihertz is a jerk about lineage and other OSes, so not sure what value you place on "install and distribute my own software". My wife has a TickTock and I a Titan, and we both use the in-house fdroid repo without issue.

@silverwizard@convenient.email avatar

@mcc I thought they might be too smol! Unihertz makes phones for no one, but damn am I glad they are doing it

@m33@theprancingpony.in avatar m33 this usually means your CPU load is too high or the network latency is spiking (if it's a remote DB). In theory it can be that all your cores have a thread for too long and the sql server can't perform the task for friendica before the timeout.

What's the best way to get into "audio books". Can i just give american dollars to a website via one time transactions and receive mp3s in exchange or is it fucked up and weird like watching tv is these days?

silverwizard ,
@silverwizard@convenient.email avatar

@aeva libro.fm will not be stupid. Give them some cash and they'll give you sound files.

silverwizard ,
@silverwizard@convenient.email avatar

@aeva what. the. fuck. uh. wow

that's not been my experience with them. What the fuck is their infinite jest audiobook doing?!

I swear to you, all of my experiences with them have been with that of a company charging normal prices for normal books.

What the fuck.

I have a friend who is being harassed and threatened semi-anonymously via Facebook. She knows who it is, but Facebook and Police are characteristically being uselss.

I am kinda useless at this side of deanonymization, but does anyone have advice or resources for deanonymizing enough to get cops to move?

I really want to do some off stream work on Magefight right now but also have to get up early tomorrow because of that whole "being a responsible parent" thing. It's sleep for me right now.

Hopefully I'll be able to make some time tomorrow. I wanna get some boring math out of the way so on stream work can be more interesting.

@beeoproblem Honestly, responsible parenting is the hardest thing in the world when you have all the projects, isn't it

Phillips Hue keeps threatening me they're going to shut down everything. I put their app on a side device that wont download things and I don't update it, and I put their bridge on a no-internet-access VLAN - but I'd like to just not deal with their shit.

Is there a bulb that doesn't deal with their shit?

@silverwizard@convenient.email avatar silverwizard , to random

The hardest part of security work is when you have 15 urgent tasks and no one willing to prioritize them. And then you end up telling someone "I can't help on the outage, I need to reformat this document"

I am now, of course, adding to this neverending discourse with this article. But I want to be clear: No one is under any obligation to be nice to the creators of the Humane pin or the product itself, which, even if it worked, is a gadget that relies on mass content theft and the scraping of huge amounts of human knowledge and creativity to make a product that is marketed as making us more “human.” The people making this argument are people who have a vested interest in the general public continuing to canonize, support, and spend money on a Silicon Valley vision of the future that involves the automation of everything, the displacement of huge numbers of workers, and a new, AI-led internet that has so far done little but flooded the web with low quality junk, been used to make fake porn to harass women, and has led eager beaver know nothing CEOs to prematurely lay off huge numbers of workers to replace them with AI tools built on the back of uncompensated human labor and training largely done by underpaid “ghost workers” in the developing world.

@404mediaco is literally the single best tech media in the entire world. There are some other reporters out there who are amazing, but 404 Media has the full chain of support.

@davidrevoy @greensofshade It means the local image cache expired the image because it's two years old. I keep my images for 15 days in the cache, because it's rare I need them longer and can refetch. The alt text only is the fallback when the image is missing.
