i use it quite a lot. very useful also in-line translation: you select some text and the context menu offers translation directly without opening the full app.

I think one from either Plato or Aristotle: they shaped the way of thinking of people afterwards, up to now

This ☝️

but even more than ad, there is powerful marketing lock-in strategies: PCs come preinstalled with windows. Schools use and promote google stuff. Office is free and promted for university students, and same goes for Matlab and other scientific software

I really like Ritter choccolate, but I find the motto really funny: you can't get more German than describing your chocolate (something you eat) first as square, second as practical, and only third, and last, as good 😆

Satellites are visible and move at some km per second. Pretty fast

Inside the atmosphere anything faster than some hundreds km/h get so much drag that they either are extremely small (bullets) or extremely powerful (planes, maglev trains)

What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I saw my doctor recently and while talking about what a lazy fat-ass I am, he mentioned something about replacing the crap I usually snack on with healthier snacks like seasoned air-fried cauliflower or something like that. So what are your favorite healthy-ish snacks that can be made relatively quickly when I feel like shoving ...

Peanuts with shell, salt-free. The fact that it takes a bit of effort to open the shell is a plus, because it slows the consumption.
And apples too

Just a tip: this app implements the same offline translator from Firefox, and it allows also

  • OCR detection and translator on picture
  • translation of selected text in any app

"One false move and you are dead"

This is the message of an old campaign for the #securityRoadway in #UK. It sounds ridiculous, if only the same message (maybe a bit watered down), was not used for road safety campaigns nowadays. ...

Photo of two legs of a person on the sidewalk close to the edge. Overlay writing: "one false move and you are dead". Another overlay: "before you cross the road, stop at the kerb". Public domain image: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Campain-_One_false_move_and_you%27re_dead.png

Almost like a horror movie

...Or a Mafia warning

lgsp OP ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Yes, because you accept that roads are dangerous because of cars.

But who is giving this warning? The same institution that allowed the roads to become unsafe in the first place, and should protect vulnerable users instead of blaming them. This makes it victim blaming.

Road is public space and it doesn't make sense that so much of it is unsafe for people not in a metal cage. Do you see which community we are in, by the way?

lgsp OP , (edited )
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Ok, but the main point is in the second sentence. I mean: the advice to not run down the kerb is something I say to my daughter, and i think it's fine. The problem is where this comes from, the government who is shaking off responsibility for road safety by blaming vulnerable victims instead of working on the cause of danger (spoiler: cars, speed, drivers)

So institutions can have email subscribtions to their account, in next mastodon release

Very interesting, but does this mean that there will be 2 kinds of accounts, a normal one, and an "institution" one that can take email subscribers?

lgsp OP ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

actually you can use it on its own, detached from the phone. keeping it with you phone is just a possibility.

lgsp OP ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Thank you, that's very useful to know.

Do I understand well that the reader renders well markdown formatting, but the same formatting in epub is ignored?

Are embedded images rendered?

https://send.djazz.se/ magari puo’ tornar utile.

You clearly don’t know Germans. Yes they will.

and yet, illegal parking on sidewalk is common place in Munich. How is it? (honest question)

How to lock a bike, 2 extreme cases

Pictured above: a bike locked badly to a good quality rack. Just a wrench, and a thief takes the wheel and bike away. ...

 2 pictures. at the top: a mountain bike is leaning against a rack of those with a high structure. A U-lock ties an arm of the fork to the rack. Dismantling the wheel a thief takes everything. In the photo below: how I tie my bike to the uncomfortable racks, with low structure. The bike is straddling the structure, so I can easily tie the frame instead of just the wheel

Question: why mastodon hastag timeline shows posts from lemmy community of same name?

My timeline on the hastag #degoogle showing a post from @degoogle@lemmy.ml community and a random microblogging post that actually contains the hastag itself
ALT
lgsp OP ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Mmh, that's not an explanation: when I look at an hastag timeline in mastodon, I expect to see all the posts that federate with my server and contain the relevant hastag.

In this case I for sure see also posts that are federated, but, AFAIK, do not contain the hashtag. The only element is the name of the community

lgsp OP ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Ok, this makes sense, and I had no idea it was like this

lgsp OP , (edited )
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

Ok, clear, thank you.

So this has been implemented as a Lemmy feature for more than one year, and it's default behavioiur a setting for the particular community

Oh, on. The setting thing was what I understood from the discussion in the link, but I didn't go very deep

In which part is the main processor/memory?

lgsp , (edited )
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

I'm pretty sure that for the FP4 there was no main board, so I guess this is valid for FP6 too. The "identity" of the phone is in there, changing the main board would mean changing the phone itself. Not only that, it would also be the most expensive part, given the memory and processors included.

I think you can't ho that way...

The article is not by me, I just posted the link I found.

I'm not expert in this field yet, I am learning this kind of stuff right now from posts and comments around...

Why the hell would anyone want to literally ride a bicycle right in car traffic?

Maybe because there is no alternative?

lgsp ,
@lgsp@feddit.it avatar

I misunderstood your point. I thought you were talking about generally riding on roads open to traffic, but I understand now you were talking about "vehicular cycling". I agree with you then

Cycling in the rain is as easy as walking in the rain: just wear raincoat

I use a bike poncho, it covers the legs, too, and limits sweating because it is open underneath. Decathlon sells them for cheap, and them works. There is also normal colors, but I prefer to be absurdly visible (I want to see who says "I didn't seen him 🙂) ...

That's exactly what bicycle specific ponchos are meant to do!
