What's the oldest piece of machinery that you own that still works, for its original purpose, in (mostly!) its original state?

leah ,

@NanoRaptor trivially, a 1904 dictionary. else, a 1970s toaster.

Some definitions that could be useful:

When a random member or members of a class of people are killed in a way intended to foster fear in other members of the same class, it's "terrorism". The incitement of random actors who share that goal with the hope that one of them might do it is "stochastic terrorism".

When a specific target engaged in warfare is killed to prevent what they're doing, that's [violent] direct action.

@dalias According to this definition, the Unabomber is not a terrorist?

leah ,
@leah@blahaj.social avatar

@JessTheUnstill @dalias In Germany, you're considered a terrorist if you glue yourself to the street. Definitions vary a lot...

If it goes on like this, GitHub will be dead before it has IPv6.

What are some syntaxes that programming languages have used, to note that a specific thing has a specific type?

The two standards seem to be the C "prefix"

int x / (int) x

and the increasingly popular ML colon

x: int

In the languages I've made I like using : for structural purposes, like (if x: print abcd). And "typename then a space" is so fucking messy, so I'm wondering about what alternatives could feel natural.

@mcc Haskell: x :: Int (generally considered a mistake)

    @NanoRaptor Probably some mainframe, older binaries may exist but were handassembled.
