8 New International Horror Films To Unwrap This December ( www.fangoria.com )

There are two types of horror fans in December: those who just want to snuggle up under a blanket and watch frightful holiday favorites, and those who are cramming like their life depends on it before compiling their best-of-the-year list (guilty as charged). Whichever category you fall into, there's plenty of new international ...

Thanks for the share! This looks really cool, I love non-english horror movie. You can find some really interesting features.

Based on the title, I first thought subtitles embedded in a container (like MKV) could be used to launch malware.

Thankfully this is not the case. I was really worried for a second.

This honestly has nothing to do with video formats or even torrents.

If you are pirating you should have enough common sense to not click on random .lnk files.

Most reputable trackers/indexers don't allow .lnk files or even random raw M2TS files.

This is not an issue on Linux or Macs.

Even on windows, if you play the movie (so M2TS with external audio and subs), you would simply get subtitles with the PowerShell code as subtitle text at one point.

They are way over hyping this issue.

This is a very strong list, I mean you have jpeg, PNG and flac on the list.

But yes, .lnk has no legitimate use cases in a torrent.

It started out as tax fraud, but he genuinely started to enjoy directing and making movies (unless there is some sort of tax fraud scheme that we don't know about).

I have seen some other Boll movies, but not Alone in Dark. I was actually planning to watch it tomorrow.

Sometimes I am in the mood for trashy movies.

I actually liked the ninjas at the end.

I have mixed feelings about 28 Years Later, but I do appreciate that they seemed to have tried to do something different, even if it didn't fully work out.

Hunger Games: The Middle age Fajita Conspiracy

I've actually never seen any of the Hunger Games movies. I have seen many of the other YA dystopia movies from the early to mid 2010 (scary how that period is becoming "old school").

The divergent series was sort of entertaining, but also very trashy. It had a teenage fanfic type vibe. I like the Maze Runner series, the first had a lot of potential; when I first saw it, I was hoping for a modern take on Lord of the Flies mixed in with Arthur Clarke's Rama series. Didn't really work out like that. :)

For Alien: Covenant and Prometheus I strongly recommend the Ninth Circle and Chaos edition fan edits respectively, it makes both movies far more coherent and enjoyable.

Prometheus, with the Chaos Edition fanedit, in particular becomes a completely different experience with characters behaving much more rationaly and viewers getting more insight into their personality and motivations.

It is strange that Scott did seem to have filmed more coherent versions of both films (most of the content is from deleted/alt scenes), but then decided to go with whatever we got for the theatrical versions.

I actually enjoyed the theatrical versions as well, but I love sci-fi/horror and I will watch almost any movie that combines these genres. That being said, many parts of the theatrical version of Prometheus were comically stupid, almost like an unintentional parody.

Alien: Covenant also had a lot of stupid moments.

While I agree with you that The Matrix really hit the Zeitgeist, I wouldn't call it a bad or even mediocre movie. It's a solid sci-fi cyberpunk action movie.

I personally wish they explored the early part a bit more where Neo is wondering about reality. The action is great, but a contrast with broader discussions behind the meaning of The Matrix would only make the action even more intense. The part about "Neo (The One)" and Trinity's and Morpheus' relationship to the prophecy was really weak though. I thought it sucked even as a late pre-teen.

Exodus: Gods and Kings IMO had a b-movie vibe, but as if a b-movie was made with a large budget, A list actors and overly self indulgent tone.

jbone ,
@jbone@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I see what you mean and I generally agree, I just don't think it was full on bad.

Don't get me wrong, I rewatched it with a 10+ year gap since the last viewing and I thought it would be better. It didn't have that same intensity that was there in the last viewing in the late 2000s.

But it's not full on bad.

But yes, these matters are subject to a degree.

I am not from the US (although I've lived there for several years), thankfully the blue/red pill thing is not that relevant where I live.

Not a fan of those type of polemics at all.

I generally enjoy b-movies (especially 90s sci-fi), so The Matrix seems fine, even though it could have been way better. It's very superficial and they never really explored the truly mind bending stuff.

I am normally sceptical of remake/reboots, but I would love a psychedelic remake of The Matrix, with a bigger focus on the early part of the movie where Neo feels disconnected from reality. The 90s retro vibe would be the cherry on top.

Animatrix was great, some parts were not particularly memorable, others were top notch. The Second Renaissance could have been a feature in of itself, same for A Detective Story.

I would even go as far as saying The Animatrix as a whole is a better take on the Matrix concept than the OG movie itself.

Does the future seem bleak? Are we going to be stuck with shitty WebDLs for most new content?

For mainstream content and somewhat well known content, both regular BD and 4K BD rip are widely posted shortly after release.

You do have some truly niche content and non-english content where it's difficult to find BDRips / BD Remuxes, but you can usually access older DVDRips. If you're into this kind of content (as I am), you might as well just buy the BD (or stick to the DVDRip which is fine as far as I am concerned).

Not unless the artist is selling directly

More often than not, for niche and/or non-english content, this is indeed the case. I also don't see the big deal with supporting a smaller publisher.

I loved the Iron Lung game, curious what the movie will be like.

jbone ,
@jbone@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The console in the sub can be access for some short lore elements that serve as a good foundation for the broader Iron Lung universe.

https://iron-lung.fandom.com/wiki/Terminal

There is a lot of lore to work with and expand upon.

I really enjoyed Iron Lung, but I always really curious about the broader world (would have preferred an RPG game set in the Iron Lung universe, but an indie movie would work too).

This is so good! I have Calibre's second album and a few single/EP tracks. I didn't realize Calibre has a total of 21 albums.

The whole album is incredible good! It's like a perfect mix of 90s LTJ Bukem/Good Looking Records and that late 2000s liquid funk sounds, but with a 2025 production sensibility and dub motifs.

I actually going to get the album!

Cheers!

I feel like I haven't heard about Mandy Moore in 20 years.

The first one was entertaining and the Men in Black track was extremely catchy (the female R&B chorus is extravagant). Don't remember the other ones (I think I only saw the 2nd one).

That being said, this is clearly yet another sequel cash in.

@jbone@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It almost felt like they didn't really know how to develop and end the first part.

jbone ,
@jbone@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I also saw One Battle After Another in the cinema.

Totally worth it. I still go to watch 5-10 movies a year.

Saw it in the cinema, it was really good.

Was fun to see DiCaprio in a slightly different role than he usually plays.

I didn't watch the trailer, but I am pretty exited for the new 28 Years Later movie, the first part wasn't a masterpiece, but I thought it evolved the formula.

The 2nd episode of "Man in the High Castle" when you realize they just copied the setting and are going to ignore the key elements (and strengths) of the book.

I gave up on the adaption about 5 min into the second episode.

That's a fair arguement, I can understand your perspective.

I think my negative view of the series is more due to my expectations (I think I started watching it right after finishing Electric Dreams, which I thought was very well done).

The Wailing (2024) | Trailer | Pedro Martín-Calero ( horrornerdonline.com )

Andrea, a university student in present-day Madrid, lives a seemingly normal life, until one day when her boyfriend is killed in a shocking act of violence. She soon begins to notice a mysterious entity that follows her no matter where she turns. Twenty years prior, Marie, a woman in Buenos Aires, suffered the same fate. Camila, ...

I was worried this would be a remake of the Korean The Wailing film.

These days, torrents are honestly not as big of an issue from IP holders perspective as you would think.

In the mid 2000s, torrents accounted for 30% to 50% of all internet traffic (with higher share during peak hours). It was a big deal.

Nowadays, there are other priorities and torrents are seen as less pressing challenge.

I would probably say Weapons, Sinners was really good too.

Is still have to see The Long Walk, Companion and Good Boy. Btw The Long Walk's concept is taken from an older sci-fi b-movie from the early 2000s. I will have to post about it.

I don't know if it's the best, but I liked that 28 Years Later wasn't a typical sequel, the ending almost reminded me of Six String Samurai and there were other points in the film that seemed to suggest a subtle black comedy approach.

Why Session 9 Is Still the Most Underrated Psychological Horror Film Ever Made - iHorror ( ihorror.com )

Session 9 is one of those horror films that stay with you long after you have finished watching it. The film uses paranoia and dread to sink its teeth into you. Honestly, there are very few films that pull off the slow burn sensation in the same way as Session 9. However, the film still flies mainly under the radar. If you are ...
