Y'know. I don't hate this one. Vocal performance wise it's dogshit, but that tension is nearly gone from the femvoice, and that's exciting to me, because that's my main focus. The amount of improvement I've made since the start of FAWM is really encouraging to me.

Let's be honest. I'm just doing voice training, and using FAWM as a backdrop... that's what it feels like.

@Gwendolyn I disagree, and I listened, it's all over vocally sure but I get what you're going for, all stuff sounds like this at first - and your voice is fine! More work improves whatever but just remember, even Hendrix hated his voice. That's why it's so low in the mixes! 😂

@HailsandAles @NoRestfortheWicked I'm not super familiar with either but after a quick refresher, almost similar vibes (like you say, it's like, power-death?).. just barely went Vader hah. @wendigo had said he heard a lot of Vader in Siege Column last year so I looked em up then. Siege Column has more Bolt Thrower to me, but either way, hell yeah! haha

jake4480 ,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@HailsandAles @NoRestfortheWicked @wendigo oh and something funny about Vader, y'all may know that's how Eagles of Death Metal got their name. As the legend goes, Josh and his good friend Jesse were smoking pot and eating graham crackers for some reason, and the topic of Vader came up, about being death metal, and one of em goes 'man, Vader are like the EAGLES of death metal' 😂

Anyone know of a good non U.S. based IRC server? I went back to my old stomping grounds from highschool and it's just full of Nazis, now.

@Gwendolyn geez, sorry you've had such gross recent interactions on IRC. I know that can happen, wow.

I know @Tijn & co run a good IRC server for their DOS game club, and based on your music, you may dig.

@Gwendolyn @Tijn ha! Yeah, I wrote something a couple days ago about my hatred of Nazis. And I'm all about weird punk/vocal stuff and I think Martijn here is too haha - I always go back to like, rattly garage punk. With some synths and keys. Most of my favorite music is like that!

A while back my Steam Deck's SD card stopped working, it was mountable and readable but the write speed was permanently limited to <10 kB/s (but not zero, just extremely low), and it had no support for SMART unfortunately

I'm just curious, what's the likely underlying cause here? Is this what flash write exhaustion looks like in practice?

This two-dimensional image (https://x.com/tomaspueyo/status/1993360931267473662) has been circulating recently as an metaphor for the current state of AI technology. It is admittedly an improvement over one-dimensional narratives in which AI development is presented as a linear (or exponential) progression from sub-human to super-human intelligence. However, it is still a significant oversimplification. The space of cognitive tasks is not well modeled by either one or two-dimensional spaces, but is instead extremely high-dimensional. There are now indeed many directions in this pace in which AI tools can, with minimal supervision, achieve better performance than human experts. But, as per the "curse of dimensionality", such directions still remain very sparse. Also, human performance is also very spiky and diverse; representing this by a single round disk or ball is also somewhat misleading.

In high dimensions, the greatest increase in volume often comes from taking combinations of smaller, spikier sets. A team of humans working together, or humans complemented by a variety of AI tools, can achieve a significantly greater performance on many tasks than any single human or AI tool could achieve individually, particularly if they are strong in "orthogonal" directions. On the other hand, the choice of combination now matters: the wrong combination could lead to a misalignment between the objective and the actual outcome, in which the stated goal may be nominally achieved, but at the cost of several unwanted secondary effects as well.

TLDR: the topic of intelligence is too high-dimensional for any low-dimensional narrative to be perfectly accurate, and one should take any such narratives with a grain of salt.

@tao any time I see this analyzed, I'm more convinced any analysis of it will never be able to be accurate in any way. It's that thing like when a piece of science fiction is made, that exact scenario will never happen, etc.. It's all so weird

    Know what's even BETTER than using some kind of dumb looking LLM generated image for your blog post and/or website?

    Using a free (or paid) image from https://unsplash.com. Sure, it's an Adobe thing, but the free Creative Commons stuff, you just grab and then you can credit the photographer/artist. It's fast and easy, way faster than even messing around with some LLM. And about 1000% more genuine.
