The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore. It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that isn't remotely relevant...

@Daojoan I’m happy to be an outlier in this, as are you. The more we choose the best media form (ie. written guides, videos) for each job, and stop bowing to the algorithm, the better the digital landscape will be.

The funniest thing about "digital nomads" is they all end up in the exact same 5 cities doing the exact same remote work they could do anywhere, but now they're doing it in a coworking space in Bali

"work from anywhere" = "work from places other digital nomads have already approved on Instagram"

@Daojoan My son loves the Asia digital nomad life you describe. Good for him. Don’t mean to boast but I digital nomad sans plane ticket and oppressive humidity from the couch to the floor to the kitchen table to the back room, multiple times a day

Pepper & Carrot, Episode 39: "The Tavern" is finally out!

This 11-page webcomic is a standalone episode that you can read in five minutes. It's about courage and an experiment with sound in the comic medium. Translations are already available. We've got English, Français, Deutsch, Español, 中文, Nynorsk, and Toki Pona, thanks to some great contributors. And a big thank you to my 1106 supporters for giving me the time to create this one.

I don’t mean to brag, but I’m gonna be kind of a big deal

@jerry Jealous much. Use your power wisely, friend.

All I got was someone threatening to send compromising videos they claim to have captured of me at my computer to everyone on my contacts list, unless I send them 1500 in crypto. All I can say is, they really /really/ don’t know me 🤣

Something the Arc browser did that I loved was to have a single keyboard shortcut for copying a clean, tracker-free URL.

@Vivaldi has a two keyboard shortcut solution (⌘L, ⌘C) but it copies the entire URL, whatever that might be. I'd love to see a clean URL tool in Vivaldi!

@Vivaldi Thank you, I will!

TIL how to tile tabs in the Vivaldi browser. Thank you, @Vivaldi !! This was the one thing that had me missing Arc daily.

Now not only do I not need it, Vivaldi does it better.

Experiencing some muscle memory rebellion demanding I go back to Arc, but nooo, I am holding strong! Vivaldi is slowly taking shape. Bit by bit I'm learning to do the things I used to do without thinking.

And of course the things I used to do in Arc without thinking are the things I had to make myself learn bit by bit when I was new to Arc, resisting the muscle memory rebellion that was demanding I go back to Brave.

What is happening?? Affinity Publisher documents created on a Mac in version 1 do not open in version 2, if the Mac has been updated to Sonoma or later. This has been a known issue for some time, from what I can see.

Seems I'm supposed to source an updated machine to convert my files. This will lose Affinity a lot of business!

ellane OP ,
@ellane@pkm.social avatar

@gsymon Yes, we'll have to keep an eye on how things progress with the whole Canva/Affinity

My new MacBook Pro 14 inch has arrived! Space Black is beautiful. Even the charging cord is black! As good as it all looks, Apple missed out on the ultimate cool factor by not making a black wall plug to match. (1/2)

I’m setting up my new MacBook Pro from scratch, only installing apps and utilities as my fingers itch for them. Hopefully many maybe-useful will be discarded along the way and I’ll have a leaner machine than before. (2/2)

ellane OP ,
@ellane@pkm.social avatar

@johnnydecimal It is, indeed! I’m enjoying the smaller size, too. 16 inches was nice to use but awkward to carry around. 14 inches is the sweet spot.

How the “Nutbush” became Australia’s unofficial national dance

Most Australians learned the "daggy" line dance in primary school starting in the mid-1970s

@arstechnica I still remember how cool it felt in 1978 doing the Nutbush—remembering all the steps, being part of a group moving in unison.

NC Senate passes bill to make it illegal to publicly mask for health reasons

Senators skeptical of legal trouble for harmless masking after moving to make it illegal.

@arstechnica As the hiding of identity seems to be their main concern, perhaps some effort could go toward the technology needed to make masks transparent?
