I haven't written any Daily Notes on Obsidian lately, not because I have nothing to write about. I tend to write down thoughts when there are thousands of them passing through. That's how I stay sane and cope with it. If I'm really focused on something, I'm pretty calm and don't really need to write anything down.
Hmm, so the way Synology Photos set up the libraries for me and Josh now is that the library is inside the user's home directory, like mine is in /volume1/homes/corgidad/Photos and Josh's is in /volume1/homes/josh/Photos
But Immich will do something like /volume1/immich/corgidad and /volume1/immich/josh
Should I move all the photos from current location to the immich one, or just set up current directories as external library... I don't really like photos scattering around in several locations...
mount our synology photo libraries as individual docker volumes
use immich cli to “upload” to immich libraries (it can specify API key so it goes to the right library)
And hopefully the upload can finish in a reasonable amount of time. I may have to use tmux to keep it running even after ssh session gets disconnected.
Maybe I should select a few hundreds of photos to try it first to see if it works lol
Does the system know when the next train will leave the terminal station (alewife / Ashmont /Braintree)? Or is it just adhoc like the train is just waiting there not knowing when it leaves until someone dispatches?
So #MBTA is neck deep in this big mess with the new train contract with CRRC because a few selfish western Mass lawmakers wanted a small train factory in Springfield, and no one wanted to bid on this stupid project. Everyone knew it'd be a disaster. But the taxpayers of the Commonwealth and the people in the Greater Boston area had to deal with this big mess.
3 years after the contract should have been finished, only 6 trainsets were delivered on the red line. The factory furloughed 40% of its workers because train shells from China were seized by the Trump administration CBP. No one knows what will happen. And it's too late to sign a new contract even if MBTA just decides to take a loss. Even if they do sign a new contract with another train maker we won't see new trains for the next few years at least.
So the next few years will be a big fucking disaster on the red line which is the busiest line in the system.
Omg I hate living in this fucking country more by every minute. This disaster is purely political. The government, legislature and everything failed the people of the Commonwealth.
Every time I interact with anyone from car dealers I assume they're greedy, not genuine, and lying outright. Am I wrong?
So I dropped off the Taycan at Porsche Westwood (because Porsche Boston moved to Natick temporarily...) last Monday because the instrument cluster (giant screen in front of steering wheel) suddenly shut off while I was driving, and an error was thrown in the car.
Now that kind of thing has been happening from time to time, especially more often in the winter. and it'd be back to normal after several hours. But it doesn't always throw an error. I figured the dealer wouldn't be able to do anything because it is not reproducible. This time it threw an error (like the first time it happened), so I figured I'd take it to the dealer.
I called last Wednesday - no update.
Called again last Friday - no update.
Called again today before service department closed. When the service advisor (SA) answered, he said, he was just discussing with the tech, and they believe particular software update and recall would solve it. It should be ready tomorrow.
I do tend to believe it is a software issue, because how flaky and unstable the problem is. But all open recalls for Porsche Taycan don't mention instrument cluster. There may be internal bulletins about that though.
I didn't press him on what service bulletin or recall he was referring to on the phone. I guess I'll need to see tomorrow.
ANYWAY I'm counting the days it stays at the dealer towards the threshold for the Massachusetts Lemon law.
I haven't had a personal laptop for a few years lol I've just been using work laptops on my trips. It worked fine since I mostly just used browser. But now I'm deep (aka three days) into my web app development that I need a personal laptop to install all the tools I need... Work laptop has too many restrictions
I'd rather have a x1 carbon but E14 is sufficient for me...
A clear AeroPress coffee maker sits atop a glass mug filled with brewed coffee on a speckled granite countertop. Beside the brewer stands a bag of coffee beans featuring an abstract pattern of yellow, black, and white dots and swirls, next to a disassembled white manual coffee grinder with its handle lying flat.
There're not really many places in the city for dogs to run and get energy out. Especially bigger ones like golden retrievers. Almost all dog parks in the city are very small, which is usually enough for my corgi because she has short legs anyway ...
I used to live one block away from Blackstone square. Most of time during the day it's empty, especially the part south of Washington St, because of the shadows by giant trees.
A good example is a big part of lawn dedicated for dogs at Boston common. When we lived near government center we always took the corgi there.
There're also more entitled and irresponsible dog owners now. Like letting your dog run freely on a bike trail? It could cause big crashes. And dogs react to moving things......
A high-contrast black and white photo taken in a subway station. The main subject is a young person wearing a light-colored jacket, light-wash jeans, and white sneakers, standing on the tiled platform and looking down at a small device in their hands. They are framed by a large, curving, dark metal arch in the foreground. Overhead, a complex piece of industrial machinery with exposed gears is bolted to the ceiling. The background features a tiled wall with a red stripe and various advertisements or informational posters.
Got my Boox Note Air 4C yesterday! It feels very solid and premium and the e-ink screen is great! I used it a bit before sleep last night.
It's just a bit heavy to hold with a single hand for a long time. But given its screen size it's probably unavoidable.
After some trial and error I figured out a way to get all my kindle books downloaded and DRM stripped. I also managed to use Libby for Boston Public Library!
@Kevin is it also based on Android? If so have you downloaded any apps? I'm kinda on the fence whether to keep it minimal with just reading and note taking...
Set an alarm and got up early to go out for a ride, enjoying one of the last warm nice days in Boston this year. And I was rewarded with this beautiful vibrant red maple along Neponset river in the morning glow! That almost made the suffering climbing up Blue Hill TWICE less sufferable...
Well, my new kit works REALLY well in the wet, at least above 40ºF, so I did a full 30 miles up the Northern Strand and back.
I did definitely get wet from rain, but mostly in the places I was expecting anyway, and my base layer kept me very comfortable. The cheapo jacket is the star of the show, I was NOT expecting it to perform as effectively as it did.
Nighttime photo of a Fuji bicycle resting against a brick wall with an inset mural of a lotus flower on water. A large puddle is visible in the foreground. Mural text reads:
Like a lotus flower we too have the ability to rise from the mud bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world Unknown
@arstechnica This impacts severely my local community here in Dorchester. Carney isn't in the plan by the state to be saved. Without Carney, it takes several more minutes to get to the next nearest emergency room for a lot of residents in Dorchester. And a lot of low income, disadvantaged residents in the community suffer the most.
@arstechnica I used to think that way. Does US have better chance of being a billionaire than other countries? Probably. But it’s 0.00000001% compared with 0.0000000001% maybe.
At this point my favorite city to live in is Barcelona 😂
