Lunch app order option for "Tivoli Catering", featuring "Italian Pizza, Pasta & Sandwiches". Tivoli was enterprise systems management software from the 1990s. TIL also a town in Italy, which makes sense, and makes the restaurant name make perfect sense, but still.

At the start of this train ride I pulled out my laptop and started writing Rust and the lady next to me started knitting* a hat. Some hours later I wrote very little Rust because my laptop ran out of batteries and anyway the wifi on this train has been out the whole time, and the lady next to me has most of a cute-looking hat.

  • Darning? I'm always confused about the terminology here

I’ve never used darning as a word except in reference to socks. AIUI it means to mend via knitting.

I get the impulse to scare folks into action, but hyperbole is self-harm. If your pitch requires a fake landfill apocalypse, your pitch is weak. Better: sharpen the value prop, cut the jargon, own the trade‑offs, and show the path. is an opportunity to improve our message and our onboarding, not to yell louder.

This is the light switch by my front door. I've made it so the LEDs on the left show levels of COVID RNA detected in Boston wastewater. It's an arbitrary log-2 scale, with the first three lights green, the next two yellow, and the top two red.

This is the first time it has been down to green since 2023.

This is a decora-style paddle switch, with seven LEDs running vertically along the left side of the paddle. The bottom three LEDs are glowing green. The top four are off. (There is a little bit of green showing, but that's just spillover.)
