@Bern @stufromoz I was late to even hearing about Whamageddon. And even then I was never even sure what song it was.

It wasn’t until 3+ years after hearing about it that I finally intentionally played it to know what song people were even talking about. And I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard it much if at all when out and about.

I'm losing count of the number of times I'm seeing people post the genAI created version of this meme the last 2 days.

I don't get it. Are you mocking AI or supporting it? Do you really not realise how you're contradicting yourself by resharing a genAI created image to "mock" genAI?

The genAI image people have reshared 5+ times in to various timelines is a Studio Ghibli styled ChatGPT created DIRECT COPY of this image. Why share THAT version? It just entirely contradicts the point of the image? Doesn't it? I honestly don't get it.

@oberonsghost @static IIRC the original way to create a threads account was to convert your IG account to threads and you could crosspost to both. Text posts went to threads only, image posts went to both?

I’m guessing they’re now more making threads be opt-out rather than opt-in? Sounds like the type of thing they’d do to “increase engagement”.

@static @oberonsghost I never gave Threads a chance because:

a) Meta. I already hated everything Meta.
b) I never have a good relationship with algorithm based sites. WAY too many of them take any interaction as a good thing and show you more of that sort of post, even if the “interaction” is you reporting something.

When people say to me “Oh I’ve tuned my algorithm. It’s good now!” all I hear is “I fought against it to some degree, and largely gave up fighting, just tune out the rest of the unwanted posts”. You should not have to fight against a website / socmed to make it usable. 99% of the time if I inquire more deeply that’s the actual situation.

We will ship with two modes (Open and Lockdown), the latter allowing you to restrict federation with allowed instances only (and enforced via AuthorizedFetch)

You can also disable Federation support
