Parabolic

Privacy respecting alternative to airtags

I lost a bunch of keys today. It sucks and it's gonna cost me a lot of money to replace the locks. I want to to add an airtag-like device to my key ring in the future. However I don't know of any device that works in a similar fashion, either through bluetooth or GPS, that works with Graphene and doesn't require some kind of ...

@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Unfortunately having a private option is completely antithetical to the way these things function.

Your only other option is traditional trackers with GPS/modem and a cell plan.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I mean that already exists. It's called Kagi. But Google retains like 99% of the market because no one gives a shit and can't be bothered to adjust their default settings.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I mean regardless of how different it is, it's exactly what you described in intention.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

7%. Pathetic. I honestly can't believe things have turned out this way. We were pioneers in this market and now the same person who created it has actively contributed to its' destruction.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I mean I'm pretty sure the tens of millions of dollars he invested helped a little bit.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Agree to disagree I suppose.

What kind of "repairable, non-disposable crap" do you think EVs have that gas cars don't?

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Hey moron, ICE cars use those, too.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Then your complaint is with new cars, not electric ones.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

LOL I didn't ask for an explanation of anything.Tthis is not about me not liking your answer, it's about it being factually incorrect.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

So your evidence that they're too expensive to repair is that...people are selling them?

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

You're moving the goalposts. You said they were "disposable" and "non-repairable".

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

That's not what it means. I tire of these mental gymnastics. You're spewing nonsense. Goodbye.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

This is why we need p2p messengers. No servers to shut down.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar
artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

There's no such thing. But I like SimpleX.

If you're in Iran you should look into p2p messengers like Keet, as there's no servers to shut down.

Anyone who's "spooked" by AI is a gullible moron. So yeah, probably most people in Hollywood.

Fluxer is another open-source Discord alternative ( fluxer.app )

Several years ago I had a Discord community with hundreds of users. This was an IRL community, so it was very difficult to abandon but I did anyway. Tried to get people to leave but they were unwilling. So I handed it off to another member and deleted my account. Now that admin has contacted me again and let me know everyone is ...

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

It looks like they're deploying this right now:

Fluxer HQ will likely remain unavailable for the coming few hours as I get this update deployed. The rest of the platform remains available. Please bear with us as we work to get the refactor deployed which should fix this and other issues you've been having! <3

I don't understand.

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

No, because most of them suck

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I mean, 100 different reasons.

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

That's the idea, yeah

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I didn't call anything universal...

@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Matrix is a protocol. Pick a different server and it's a non-issue.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

None of these states that require age verification have given the companies they regulate any method to verify the users, so I'm pretty sure they don't care. Just like "meh, well, we tried".

The EU actually provides a verification method but AFAIK it's still incomplete/unavailable.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I don't think that's a problem because they all meet the same minimum standards:

Smart-ID meets the European Union's eIDAS Regulation and the European Central Bank's standards for a secure authentication solution

The new SEO

How did you record them separately?

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Jesus Christ, how stupid can you be?

Source?

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Wait until this guy hears about laptops!

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Sounds like a great reason to refund the game.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Yeah I don't sign up with anything that requires a phone #. Returned an iPhone for this reason years ago.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

They don't actually care about age verification, they just want the personal information.

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Welcome to Matrix

No idea.

God bless you

You're just never going to convince me to use an app called "FluffyChat". Same for "Contunuwuity" or other baby-speak "cute" names. Sorry.

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

That issue is >2 years old and the maintainer hasn't commented on it at all.

artyom OP ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

It's certainly part of it, for many people. Try to sell your friends on using that old IRC client and tell me they don't take one look at it and turn their nose up at you.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

"LOOOOOLOLOLOLOL" doesn't actually tell anyone anything at all

It does.

I haven't had issues like that with Matrix in a long time now

I don't believe you.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Alright, this is pretty damn cool, thanks

artyom , (edited )
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Wow, that really escalated quickly from car damage.
These are all crimes you can charge kids with just like adults. You cannot and should not charge their parents, who had abso-fuckin-lutely nothing to do with it. This is insane. Seriously, do you even think of the wider implications of a position that you are arguing, or do you just pick the dumbest fucking stance and stick with it all the way?

And, to go further, we definitely shouldn't have any laws about drinking, smoking, driving, getting tattoos, etc. We just leave it up to the parents to make those decisions too, right? We have to trust them all to make the right decisions and don't bother making any rules or laws, right? 🤡

artyom , (edited )
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

Let's do one more thing here to really test your conviction to this argument that discord should be photo-ID-ing it's users

Your entire comment is predicated on a position that I've already told you I do not hold, so good job on making a long and intentional strawman.

It's called Neglect

Neglect is what I alluded to earlier by saying "demonstrating a pattern of bad parenting".

And to be clear, by "cannot" I was not saying it's impossible, I was saying it's wrong.

Drinking and driving can and do harm others.

Social media and porn also can and do harm others.

The age limits on smoking and also drinking, are there to prevent tobacco and alcohol vendors from hooking children on addictive substances.

Yes, I'm aware of what the purpose of that law is. It sounds like, by your position, we shouldn't have those laws, because that's a parents' responsibility. Is that correct? And if not, please elaborate on how that's different.

artyom ,
@artyom@piefed.social avatar

I see you're sticking with the strawman strategy.
