for all you beautiful hard working professional computer touchers out there:

"my day job has me making the world a ____ place"

(be honest, don't just repeat what your CEO says)

aanee ,
@aanee@mastodon.online avatar

@aeva "...less technologically dependent on the US/China." is probably correct right now. A while ago it was "better". A while while ago it was "reliable", I guess. Though c-suite people didn't want reliable they wanted corruption (I guess that's what the c stands for).

Lot's of the tech is quite indifferent and too low level to be either as it facilitate both. Only one project was for pure good but no one wanted to finance it, so it was paused.

aanee ,
@aanee@mastodon.online avatar

@aeva Well, I like building infrastructure; the machines that build the machines, the digital roads that facilitates communication between all ends of the earth. The basic stuff.

But I'd rather it was more decentralised and smaller scale than it is today. And I'd like more if feddi used it all rather than big tech brainwashing slop machines. But here we are. I help making a knife and lot's of people started stabbing instead of cooking meals, making clothes, sculptures etc.

Three simple trick to lose weight:

  1. Sleep long, sleep often, so you forget to eat (don't do this).
  2. Do tasks that captures your mind, so you forget to eat (don't do this).
    3.Set hard dietary restrictions on yourself so it's too burdensome to make food, so it's easier to forget to eat (don't do this).

Don't do this!

@NiwlCraft@mastodon.art avatar NiwlCraft , to random

I feel alienated from most stuff. I want to participate but I'm constantly told my stuff is too dark.

To me solarpunk's most interesting story is when people start to fight back against capitalism, not 20 years after we won.
Where are the bullet holes in walls, the statues commemorating victories of the people against corporate robot armies?

It's not about realism, for it's about... in my guts, do I feel like this is a honest camera and not an advertising? I feel unease from it.

aanee ,
@aanee@mastodon.online avatar

@NiwlCraft How about a story about a nomad belonging to a small armed collective/village living hidden in the mountains on solarpower, hydro and hydrophonics. Listening on the world through radio and connecting to the rest of the world by piggy-backing on satelite up-link. The nomad is a wanted eco-terrorist that travels around where needed, talks to trees (they're a bit slow but when connected to fiber quite talkative) and dodges the remaining "societies" enforcers.

I'd watch/read that.

What if we used web browsers the same way we interact with the Fediverse? I.e. a decentralized browser. Is that nuts? I have dreams.

aanee ,
@aanee@mastodon.online avatar

@briankrebs I'm imagining a huge mainframe in a dusty cellar maintained by cats with a big sign saying "The Browser" stamped on the side of it, and 8 billion fiberoptic cables connecting to it. "This, this is were we browse" an old cat says. "All browser windows connects to here."

I think I misunderstood you... If you meant one common protocol so anyone with a connection could curl some memes, then we had that. But the expansion and introduction of new protocols were weaponised by big tech.

    We’re preparing a Circular Economy Act to:

    ♻️ Boost the use of circular products
    🪨 Reduce dependencies on critical resources
    🌳 Support green innovation

    We’ll also:

    ✅ Speed up investment through the Clean Industrial Deal
    ✅ Use public procurement to encourage green choices
    ✅ Help our aviation and aeronautical sectors stay strong through this transition

    Europe has what it takes to lead the clean tech transition.

While Europe's been... austerity-ising their economies to death? Investing in and selling everything to USAians and Chinees actors? Letting corruption flourish?

    One of Sweden's larger exports is tech start ups. What will make those be green tech and make them stay in Europe?

It's like how Star Trek inspired a lot of people to become scientists and engineers to invent the technologies in the TV show. But in Solarpunks case it should inspire people to build a better future for us all. We have too many dystopias already and we need inspirations for better not worse.

    Microsoft just became the second company valued at over $4 trillion. How did they do that?

    They fired over 15K developers and IT workers this year, saying cost cutting was needed. They also spent over $18 billion on stock buybacks, and the board approved $60 billion in buyback options. They poured $100 billion into AI.

    Meanwhile, Microsoft's Satya Nadella says job cuts have been 'weighing heavily' on him https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/07/24/microsoft-satya-nadella-memo-layoffs.html

    Let us settle things once, and all: Tabs or spaces?

    aanee ,
    @aanee@mastodon.online avatar

    @nixCraft Spaces, cause when you use tabs there is aaaallways a space that sneaks in when vertically aligning stuff. Which then forces everyone to have equal length tabs any way and removing the one benefit of tabs; that you can have your own tab length configured. So since you can't avoid having both if you want readable code, it's better to just expand tabs to spaces and only have spaces. IMHO.
