That it doesn’t handle DNS requests is DUM. It’s a VPN-lite, but just for your browser, okay, that could be useful. But without DNS it’s giving a false sense of security.

YetAnotherNerd ,

That’s not right economically. If you were going to spend $200 at store B and now spend $150 at store A, that’s an efficiency of $50. You’re saying that looking for deals isn’t a market benefit, and it absolutely is. Now, their cut of it is of no benefit, and fuck AI. But the service is productive.

YetAnotherNerd ,

I don’t know if you should read that much into it, other than that for once there are multiple viable Democrats in a primary. I personally wish Crockett and Talarico weren’t running against each other, so that they could focus on Cornyn/Paxton/Hunt instead , though to both parties’ credit they are not running negative campaigns.

But yes, the local repubs are calling it an existential threat to Christ-fearin’ ‘muricans, and how if they get in power there will be Sharia law and cats and dogs living together, etc

Oh man, 2026 blackgaze already dropping! Thanks!

YetAnotherNerd ,

Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

YetAnotherNerd ,

Not sure what you mean, but okay.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Thanks.

YetAnotherNerd ,

I’m glad he was so dumb as to show us. He could’ve been behind the scenes, throwing money at things but without anybody knowing. Thankfully, we now know what kind of person he is, and by extension which people are fine with it.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Note that OpenAI has been sponsoring scientific/math research and looking for things like this, exactly for this kind of “see! We’re not boiling the ocean for nothing! Give us more money” payoff.

Everybody hates Cory ( www.motherjones.com )

Over the past few months, I have spoken to over a dozen people who know Rep. Cory Mills. Nearly everyone, I found, dislikes him. Some outright despise him: “repulsive and vile,” “schmuck,” “little bitch.” Others were more formal. “I have no use for people with no honor,” an Idaho firearms instructor who worked ...

From the last election. That said, there are plenty that would view that kind of scathing article by Mother Jones as a plus. “HaTeD by wOKE LiBs”

Cumin

YetAnotherNerd ,

Allow me to share a culinary secret that instantly upped my chili and other Mexican food:
Either buy cumin seeds and toast them in a pan on stovetop then grind it, or buy mcCormick brand “organic roasted ground cumin”.

And yeah, definitely the flavor of chili.

“the follow-up to his FAFO EP”

love it.

YetAnotherNerd ,

It’s a site frequently used for data analytic contests - better Bayesian algorithms to weed out spam, detect malware, etc. I guess at some point it pivoted to AI. Yup: “AI & ML”

YetAnotherNerd ,

I just loved that someone actually put their name and gmail address on this horrid copyright infringement (on kaggle) and appears to have gotten away with it. That’s hysterical.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Thanks for sharing this. Tempted to post the “least crazy Republican” guide from /r/dfw

YetAnotherNerd ,

You leave sour cream out of this.

YetAnotherNerd ,

It’s the cirrrrrrrrrrrrcle of scaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam

YetAnotherNerd ,

They’re not going to maintain it - they’ll just throw it back to the LLM and say “enhance”.

YetAnotherNerd ,

It may be a federation/caching thing. I know that if you’re the first on your instance, that posts don’t show up until the first person subscribes or something like that.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Yeah, but can it recognize any band names yet? Siri’s recognition for non-top-10 band names in foreign languages or made up words is abysmal.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Yup. It’s in my GD library. Why doesn’t that matter?!

YetAnotherNerd ,

Free plan, huh? I’m glad they’re making that up in volume.

YetAnotherNerd , (edited )

Wasn’t that the dot-com bubble, too, though? “Get bought by Google” was the plan for so many companies, they had no plans for profitability.

YetAnotherNerd ,

I’ve considered using a script to post more often, so that the quieter communities don’t seem like a wasteland. More posts= more engagement = more human posts

YetAnotherNerd ,

I do love that I’m getting voted down for trying to make it busier to try and get more real people, because network effect is a thing. I get it, we want more actual human engagement, but some of these communities, 2 years in, have single-digit active members, on subs with 70k on That R Site.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Them talking about knocking 50-200k off the price of a house doesn’t make it seem like Grand Prairie is pulling in who it wants to.

Off topic - on Voyager on iOS, and the thumbnail is upside-down? Anybody else?

Did you know that the Internet Archive has classic sci-fi radio dramas? ( archive.org )

I've been listening to X-Minus-One episodes for the last few days and am really starting to appreciate the radio play format. Some of the stories are pretty dated, being from the 40's and 50's, but a lot of them still hold up if you're a little forgiving on the science details.

YetAnotherNerd ,

What’s also great is that there are a fair number of famous stories by famous sci-if authors. Hell, Heinlein and Bradbury are 4 of the first 10 episodes!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_X_Minus_One_episodes

(Jeeze… Sheckley, Pohl, Simak, Sturgeon, Anderson, Silverberg, Leiber - and that’s just in 1957!)

YetAnotherNerd ,

Dude, they didn’t care that their orange God killed an extra 600,000 ‘muricans. Why should they care about half a million brown people, kids or not?

YetAnotherNerd ,

I would LOVE to know who had check-ins there. That would be telling.

DHS expected to shut down as immigration talks falter ( text.npr.org )

The Department of Homeland Security, which houses agencies focused on immigration, disaster response and cybersecurity, is on track to shut down Saturday as lawmakers leave town without a funding agreement or a deal that Democrats hope will rein in the conduct of federal immigration officers.

YetAnotherNerd ,

Haven’t they failed 70-95% of their handgun check tests historically? Yup, security theater.

Boogers. It’s when you realize you can smell boogers.

YetAnotherNerd ,

That looks like a huge nest. I seem to recall that owls reuse other birds’ nests? That must’ve been an eagle or something!

YetAnotherNerd ,

Ladybeard, thanks.

The Repubs rejoice about that, as well as making it harder to vote.

Dr. Oz begs Americans to take the measles vaccine as infections soar ( www.salon.com )

The U.S. is in the grips of a historic measles surge, with more than 3,000 measles cases reported in 45 states across the country since the start of 2025. So far, two unvaccinated children have died from the disease. At least 920 people have been infected in South Carolina, and a similar number in Texas. In both states, nearly ...

True story - mother in law, Deep South railed against it. She never stood a chance. But we said, effectively “wait, so cancer runs in your family, and this prevents a type of cancer, what kind of monster doesn’t want their grandkids protected from at least some cancer”

YetAnotherNerd ,

Yup! Didn’t care for the music - but that’s because I don’t care for pop in general. But I was as entertained as any other Super Bowl, though I do wish they had included subtitles on the lyrics. There were several honestly touching bits, including him giving up the Grammy, the march where he named all the countries in the Americas, and absolutely that part at the end with the football.

YetAnotherNerd ,

I find it far more likely it’ll be the dumbest terminal possible, connecting to GPUs in windows cloud and therefore mandating a subscription for it to do anything whatsoever. It also incidentally gives them a fallback when the AI bubble pops and they’re sitting on acres of unused PCs

The Dark West - Official Reveal Trailer (finally, an excuse to post to this community again!) ( www.youtube.com )

I don't intentionally leave this Lemmy community unattended for months at a time, it's just really hard to find anything to talk about in the Weird West genre. Of course, that's on me for creating a Lemmy community dedicated to a sub-micro-niche genre. ...

YetAnotherNerd ,

It looks cool, my concern is the game genre … Is it an action RPG and that’s it? Vampire survivors in the Weird West? I’m curious but if it’s just Path Of Exile with a western skin, I dunno.
