I'm new to social media.

If I had the choice between getting 10 k followers, or 1 friend, I'd pick the friend. So, if you want to talk about a topic I post about, then let's talk.

I like #Aerospace (mostly the #Space), #VideoGames, #OpenSource, #Urbanism, #Electronics, and #Indie art (e.g., #GameDev, #Writing, #FanFiction, #Illustration, etc.).

I also like "tone indicators", and Markdown.

I won't be posting anything that could be used to identify me.

Spare Parts in the USA!

Murena sells spare parts for the Fairbuds & Fairbuds XL in the USA now. But they removed the one and only spare part listed for the Fairphone 6 (I don't remember what the part was). Was it ever even in stock? Why don't they give us more transparency on these things?

Speaking as someone who doesn't lose their mind whenever Elon Musk is involved, I think this is a good thing. Not only are they behind, but a lot has changed since the contract was awarded too.

I finally got the time to look at 13, what's new in there, and why I think it is highly suitable for a non-nonsense, solid desktop distro.

I started of thinking "I could never use that daily", and in the end, what I currently use isn't newer than Debian 13, so... yeah. Debian 13 is good.

Android Authority Reviewed the FairPhone

I have a few gripes, though. They got the location of the SD slot wrong, and they advertised swapping the battery for an instant charge (which FairPhone says is not recommended.)

Also, I'm tired of people advertising FairPhone as the phone for tree huggers. It's efficacious, respectful, & economic. It's for sensible people.

IMHO, this alone makes the new model worthwhile. I can't believe they didn't mention this in the announcement video.

This is the repairable phone, yes.

I'm guessing they won't make a feature phone because that industry isn't as wasteful as the smartphone industry.

I hope they make a fair tablet, but it'd better have good I/O. There is no reason a medium-sized device intended for media consumption shouldn't have a headphone jack.

@turbowafflz , the price of the FairPhone 5 at launch was £649. ^1 Now it's £419. ^2 the price of the gen. 6 could go down.

P.S. you can still get the FairPhone 4.

Only one of the new editions is for gamedevs.

@UniversalBlue , I hadn't even considered the effect the beta release of SteamOS would have on Bazzite, but it makes sense that it doesn't make Bazzite obsolete. That would be like if Fedora LINUX was obsolete because Ubuntu has it covered.

I don't want all the work to fall on a community, nor do I want full control from a company. I'm sure the resulting competition/collaboration will be good. Then again, I've never worked on a distro, so what do I know?

If you're browsing someone's profile and you just want to see their posts which include an image, video or audio, click on their profile's "Media" tab:

This will show all their own posts which have an attachment, without any boosts or non-media posts. Most apps show this as a list of posts.

The web interface shows this as a grid of images. To see the post an image comes from, click on the image and then click on the box icon in the bottom right corner.

If you want more people to follow you, it might be worth writing an introductory post about yourself with the hashtag and then pinning it to your profile.

Here's how to pin:

  1. Log in through your server’s website
  2. Go to the post to pin, click ⋯ and select "Pin to profile"

Pinned posts federate much more widely on Mastodon than unpinned posts. By pinning posts, you're making sure that your profile will never look blank to anyone.

You can pin up to 5 posts at once.
