Same with Finland ever since the 90s. These days you can tell someones economic status by their teeth, just like in the 1900s. It's great, all this progress./s

Great post!

Babylon 5 was such a huge deal for me when it first aired that I would decline invites to go out with friends and that one hour everybody had to fully leave me alone with it or I'd get super pissed, still lived at home at the time. It was the highlight of my week for years.

Latets rewatch when I got if by going "ARRRR", and the story is still just as good. Won't go into it anymore than this though so I don't spoil it for anyone.

Nashville Sit-ins Begin (1960) - Novo General Megathread for the 13th-19th of February 2026

The Nashville Sit-Ins were among the earliest non-violent direct action campaigns that targeted Southern racial segregation in the 1960s. The sit-ins, which lasted from February 13 to May 10, 1960, sought to desegregate downtown lunch counters in Nashville, Tennessee. The protests were coordinated by the Nashville Student ...

My kid is now an adult, but all I can tell you is that there are all kinds of phases, some more intense than others. I do remember that from my own life too.

When kids turn their focus socially outwards from the family and towards their peers, typically during teenage years like your kid, the need for validation, belonging etc. especially in regard to the peer group becomes the most important thing in life. Add in all the hormones and such and it is a hard confusing time for the growing young human.

So as long as nothing truly dark is going on I'd not worry about stuff like this. He is also checking on boundaries, testing what is acceptable and it can be intense and clumsy as well. I'd be pretty empathetic towards this sort of stuff as it is all a part of the process of finding a place in this world.

The bubbly kind sadly yeah, but a really nice non-bubbly oven pancake is very doable vegan, here's a recipe for it:

1 liter of oat milk or other plant milk

1 dl unflavoured soy yogurt

5 1/2 dl all purpose flour

1 dl oats

1/2 dl sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp vanillla

(1 tsp cardamon, optional)

50 g melted margarine/vegan butter

Mix everything together and let sit until your oven warms up to 200-225C depending on how you like your pancake. I bake mine in higher temp.

Pour the batter on a pan lined with parchment paper and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Enjoy.

The measurements are deciliters which is a very common way of writing recipes where I am.

Edit. Can't remember how you get a line break on Hexbear so edited to clarify

This is my treat, ate it warm as dessert after pea soup. Eating this combo is a thing during February and on Thursdays.

Put some homemade apple jam on one slice and the other I had with just plain sugar, because I very much prefer doing that both with pancakes and crepes.

You could do whipped cream, berries, ice cream, jam, nutella, fruits, caramel, maple syrup or whatever sounds good. In my grandmas house we always had this with just her homemade strawberry jam with lots of whole strawberries in it, it was the best.

And me being very vanilla I often have mine with just some caster sugar.

Trying to remember the first website I ever visited.

Pretty sure it was in middle school, so we are talking like 98-99. It was in the computer lab. Other kids were playing gerbils on the mac while I was surfing I think a world factbook site, I remember clicking on Japan because I was obsessed with catching DBZ on the morning cartoon blocks before toonami was a thing. So it's been what, six years? And for pretty much the entire time this has been known to happen from covid.

Now they are doing these headlines, because history must always start yesterday and all things happen only in isolation.

And of course we will not mention covid. Or stress. We will just look at this "mental decline" and decide that it is what it is, everything is shit, there's nothing we can do. So carry on dying for capitalism, but do some self care that ensures you can still be exploited by the capitalist.

I agree and thankfully doctors around here seem to really enjoy a nerdy patient and are delighted to give you a tour and a whole lecture on your body if you just ask.

bodily stuff, probably gross for some

Last time I had anything done I had a laser vein prosecure and got to see the whole thing and the amazing string with laser leds in it that they put up into the vein to burn it dead. It was so cool.

But the coolest thing I ever got to see was my placenta after giving birth. They put that thing into a plastic bag and I wanted to see it. It was huge (I was told it was so big it almost warranted being sent to additional testing) and very alien looking. It helped build an entire human and that is just amazing.

discussion about Epstein, CSA, SA

It's definitely made me think, a lot. Like, for someone who grew up as a girl this has always been known, but still. Been through so many traumatic things and so have most people I know. But to think that it is just this "normalized" especially among the ghouls just gives me pause in a different way. There was the French case not long ago and I am starting to feel that the rot goes a lot deeper and is far more common than we ever knew.

Been thinking a lot about bubbles and what is "normal behaviour" and the fact that the ruling class has kind of been in its own bubble for hundreds of years at this point. What kind of deprativy is their "normal"? I mean the kid of the Epstein related norwegian royal is just anotherremoved and round and round it goes? Then there's all the CSA in the church, I know people who are victims of this, boys and girls.

How much consent was there for the boys of Athens who were "lovers" for the great thinkers of western society? How is our society like this. It's pretty dark.

Been also thinking a lot about the book Women have better sex under socialism and the protection a different material reality would give.

Been closing on sleepless nights with the rage I feel for all the women in Russia and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union after understanding that these monsters gleefully went there to exploit them, like it was some sort of playground for them. To be able to do this to people in desperate positions and how that ties to economics, war, imperialism... It makes me feel pure rage.

Sorry for the long rant, this has been brewing for a while.

CSA personal, dead abuser

My feelings on this became very complex the day the man who abused me died, literally from prostate cancer. And prior to this was paralyzed from the waist down.

This was a friend of extended family so I had been forced to see him in family gatherings for years and he could also show up in my life unannounced. He was never charged for what he did, because I had been a teenager at the time and was told to keep silent to "not bring shame to my family" and told it was my fault. So it was this open secret and I was the one forced to act normal when he would show up somwehere. I felt unsafe and violated all the time. It was also an open secret that I was just one of many teenage girls he had done this to.

So when he got paralyzed I felt so relieved, he could not do this to anyone ever again. Or me. Then when I was told he had died I remember saying "deserved it, haha" and I got so much pushback from this same family on what a terrible person I am for reacting this way.

I don't necessarily support the death penalty on this, but the abusers do have to be kept away from potential victims and I have no idea what re-education in this case could look like. I am however not sad when someone like this dies and probably never can be.

StillNoLeftLeft ,
@StillNoLeftLeft@hexbear.net avatar

Yet it still makes one feel kind of bad which honestly sucks, because it's the victims feeling bad only, every step of the way.

I kind of think that as long as the sort of violent pathriarchy that we have fostered exists, there should be real material deterrants that actually deter something. In so many cases the abusers are protected, shielded and if they do get convicted those are typically slaps in the wrist. So I am in favor of the type of authoritarianism where this is condemned so strongly on a systemic level that it puts some fear into the abusers. While at the same time focusing on changing our culture to something where this no longer is as common. On the global scale it feels like only China is on the side of the victim.

It's a part of the health grift scene imo.

Years ago I went to one, once. As my physical therapist actually suggested it. I had terrible back pain at the time and this person started talking about chakras and my internal organs and how something in me isn't aligned right. Also lots of detox talk and psych talk. She manipulated my back with one of those muscle hammers and made things so much worse. I have a degree related to exercise and rehab myself and the things she said were such woowoo that I am still annoyed I spent money on it.

The anti-vax etc. stuff and drinking silver water and such venn diagram also tends to be a full circle with these people.

My workplace is doing a huge systems change this week and I'm one of those neurospicy techy types in this environment (not a techy in the online sense) who can usually get a handle on these types of things pretty fast.

Our manager decided to take a vacation this week so I've been existing on Teams with 700 tabs and a million discussions open assisting my very boomery coworkers on how to get anything done and I'm reminded what a beast pure hyperfocus is. What it's costs are.

I feel a little nauseous, my heartrate is elevated, I didn't eat or drink all day, my neck hurts and I have a headache. I'm mentally moving towards a crash after such a high energy fast-paced 8 hours and my eyes hurt. With nothing physical included this just kind of destroys me, I'm very very wired, but completely exhausted at the same time.

And no, I get no extra wages for doing any of this. But my co-workers love me.
