Nice to see that Gramarye, the journal of the Chichester Centre for Fairy Tales, Fantasy and Speculative Fiction at the University of Sussex, has made its archive openly available.

My favourite illustration so far is this small study of Thorin, sulking on his throne.

@osma bookstodon@a.gup.pe icon bookstodon group Tolkien availed himself of a good bit of retconning; The Hobbit was written as a children's story, which he later modified to fit with the more adult Lord of the Rings.

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

The printing cost of my book is $10.78.

The minimum list price allowed is $17.97, on which I earn nothing.

    takes $7.19 for itself.

If I bump up the price to an arbitrary $25.00, the printing cost remains at $10.78.

I would earn $4.22, which they claim is 60% of the royalty.

The remaining 40% works out to be $2.81.

pockets the aforementioned $7.19, then takes a 40% cut of the claimed royalty.

takes $10.00 on a book that makes the author $4.22.
