For anyone confused. Funbun is my new account. Figure id take others advice and let go of the internet identity I've held on to the last 20 years. My first post on lemmy was about this reddit post. With the death of the traditional internet and rise of open source federation it seems like a good time.
When private equity and billionairs have enough money to buy up entire social platforms, newspapers, and news stations, and political races... its no longer about community consensus or discussion. Its just pure corporate propaganda.
Lol i couldnt post multiple pics through the boost app, so my Samsung created this mess of a "collage"....i can send you the full screenshots along with the post info and comments if you're interested in creating something else!
Yeah i dont know. I just wanted to post how much money i spent on private health insurance on my w2 to a working class oriented subreddit.
Roughly 11k minus my companies contribution... Which was roughly 13k. Total of 24k for a 3k deductible for my wife and i last year...not to metion, deductibles were seperate and max out of pocket was still 10k.
I posted this on 4 seperate "pro-working class" sub and every one was deleted by mods within 20 minutes. I started calling them out and reposting screenshots.... Then they banned me after an hour. During that hour i received insults and death threat comments.
Funny thing is the first post that was removed had 17 karma, 400 views, and 7 comments withing the first 15 minutes and were all very supportive.
To clarify. That post with that censored section was after my marathon of deleted posts and bans. I then posted on unpopular opinion about how i disagree with reddit mods because of this shit and that was the message i got after typing it up. I even tried changine the "trigger" words in my post to something vague/synonymous with my message. Still wouldnt let me post.
When sites no longer allow you to speak out against political figures, companies, or conflicts then its time to leave. They are no longer moderating a subreddit. They are moderation information as a whole. They get to pick n choose what you're allowed to rally around and rally against. Sites like lemmy are the next step to a ...
The comments point out some good ideas on improving the experience of lemmy for new users but I got so many comments that just didnt even want to give try it. I made an effort though. Ill keep trying to pull em in.
Thank you. I will. I was showcasing boost through out the thread. Posting videos of me navigating through the UI. honestly it took me only 30 minutes to figure out how this works, why its great, and how to setup the app. Some people will fight tooth and nail against change and yet continue complaining about the problems over there.
To be fair. Majority of users were also excited/supportive. Many never heard of it so i hope it gains traction. Its definitely a huge improvement compared to a few years ago. Im really excited about the open source / federation potential. Get corporate out of our feeds.
Thank you! I added your full response as an update to my main post. I hope thats okay! Its too much to keep up with all the comments. Theres already 300+. Figured better to catch new viewers of the post with better info.
Update**
User [email protected] from the Lemmy community recommended i update my post and add the following links below to assist new users.
I also deleted my advice on creating accounts on specific instances. Apologies i just got lemmy this week. You make a good point about protection the decentralized federation.
Oh there are so many more and worse comments lol. People cant be bothered to read these days or seek out information. If you dont feed them everything the need to know in 6 setences or less than its too confusing and unusable. Took me 30 minutes to figure out and get started.. Still learning the nitty gritty info.
And now im researching how to host an instance through third-party hosting services. But these people cant be bothered to even try it... 😆
The struggle of posting on corporate sponsored social media.
This was my battle last night. Trying to post how much a 3k deductible cost between my employer and I. ...
Reddit removed my 10k lemmy post a few days later.
Bought and payed for. Fuck u/spez. Reddits now a tabloid and Lemmy's the front page of the internet.
