There are a lot of binary packages now, and explicit bin versions of big ones like firefox or the kernel. Without using those an update after some months may take half a day. With them, even a weak laptop only takes a few minutes.

Gentoo doesn't want to push you into some compiled utopia, it's offering you the option of customizing or taking control where needed.
You can have your system use binary packages but then set one packet to source, download the source, modify it, write a patch, and have a package with a completely custom sourcecode modification that you can easily keep updating as normal at the cost of it now taking longer due to compiling from source.

That chart is overcomplicated.
There are 3 independent markers. A, B, and +.
Blood can have A or not, B or not, and + or not. When the body doesn't have the marker, it will react to the marker.

So when you have notA, and get A blood, you will have a reaction.
notA blood works for everyone, A blood only for A people. A people can take any blood, notA people only notA blood.

Now do this independently for the 3 markers. AB+ people have all markers so can take any combination. notAnotBnot+ people make blood everyone can take, since there are no markers, but they can't take any other blood with any markers.

Unfortunately we call not+ -, notAnotB O, notAB B, and AnotB A. So + we invert properly but for A and B we omit them and instead of emptystring when no marker is present we invent O, presumably for 0 markers. This obfuscates the pattern.

3 years ago this was true. Not sure if nvidia works properly with wayland even now, though at least the trend is different now

Redjard ,
@Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It used to be that there was no option at all, on any distro. You'd have the broken proprietary drivers, or the open source reverse engineered one with half the performance and unreliability in specialty features.

Since then Nvidia has shifted focus to get their drivers working properly, and there were also changes making them more open source, tho I'm not sure that'd mean the "proprietary driver" will go full foss at some point.

If op is to be believed, the proprietsry driver is already a lot more stable, so it's now a software licensing issue not an unfixable technical issue.

One case mentioned further up is David Gelernter, who survived with permanent injuries and shows up in the Epstein files to the point of it now ending his career.

This is however well after the attacks, the Unabomber predates the timespan we have significant information about. Given the wiki entry of that David Gelernter, I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in some analog Epstein documents we don't yet know about.

I checked another random victim and found no info at all at a glance though, so I'm not convinced on the unabomber picking targets based on this, which seems like what some others here are claiming. Could just be a by-chance hit. If you bomb people you dislike I suppose you'll have an increased chance of targetting pedos by intuition.

I checked a few people and found nothing, So I'll take that as 1 guilty and everyone else innocent then.

It only accelerates to light speed, therefore it will need infinite time to complete the loops. Thus the risk is not the killing but getting stuck.

If the conjecture holds, naturally there is a small cycle so people can get on and off and use the train as a form of teleporting to the future.

If there are different loops, then still people can take turns.

Even if there are values that diverge, if it can be shown that at least one event of division occurs with a certain average frequency in the infinite divergence, then at any such point all previous guests can exit and the train can be ridden for one such span.

Only if there are no cases of division and endless steps of 3n+1 in the limit, would people be trapped on the train at no subjective time passing, and in essence time travel into the infinitely far future where they are killed.

It'll train everyone to ignore the warnings, so if a different platform implements such a system more sensibly users will be inclined to ignore those warnings too now. Overusing a warning is a really quick way to make people ignore it even where used correctly.
If you placed wet floor signs everywhere just in case, fall injuries would increase.

Systems around this will develop, either people will learn to dig up the dms, or it'll be incorporated into normal communication. It's already become the norm to use friend requests as a dm request on discord, due to previous dm restrictions.

On laptops it usually replaces right ctrl, sometimes right alt.
Both these are needed to make lots of shortcuts viable, or possible at all with one hand.

right alt is also an importand 3rd shift layer for many languages' keyboards, hence them replacing right ctr often instead of the less popular alt.

You can't fix a democracy back into being democratic. For example neither of the two parties would allow fixing the issues causing a two party system.

If you need some kind of revolution event to fix the smallest things, you're better off doing it in one go.
The careful consideration can be expressed by not going too far from the most modern successful democracies.

    Changes loosely are:

    • multi-party system at all levels by never allowing winner takes all in any elections
    • removal of lobyism in favor of tech-enabled transparency for high officials (livestream of every meeting, publicky viewable bank accounts, ...)
    • Severe nerfing of the president, potentially full demotion to a publicity role
    • Additional checks and balances like a separate constitutional court for handling laws independent of the courts for people (i.e. break up the functions of the supreme court and move some power away from legislature)
      probably more I'm forgetting

Be publicly into micology and commonly collect mushrooms to cook when you have guests over.
Only issue would be to somehow plausably not poison yourself to death. Maybe taking little enough you survive.

And take care you aren't quite known as fully competent, spread the air of knowledge without any solid proof or association.

You gotta admit fault, hate yourself for killing everyone. Buying poisonous mushrooms is implausible, admit you got them yourself right away, admit accidentally killing them. Swear to never touch mushrooms again.

And find a better excuse for not poisoning yourself, noone individually prepares mushroom sauce per person.

Systemd Founder Lennart Poettering Announces Amutable Company ( www.phoronix.com )

Systemd founder and lead developer Lennart Poettering announced the creation of a new company called Amutable. The Amutable company being led by Chris Kühl (CEO), Christian Brauner (CTO) and Lennart Poettering (Chief Engineer) will be focused on delivering determinism and verifiable integrity to Linux systems.

    Redjard ,
    @Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Don't wanna interrupt your rant, but "determinism and verifiable integrity" doesn't sound like it'd impede changes.

Determinism/reproducible builds allow independent verification that a source corresponds to the binaries some repo ships. You can set up most languages, build systems, and environment to be reproducible, and once done it doesn't have any additional effects, except maybe when changing build procedures you have to maintain the reproduceability.

"verifiable integrity" to me sounds like computer proof systems. Showing an algorithm/code/program corresponds exactly to some written spec, mathematically.

The project seems to be positioned explicitly against points of authority and "security" through compliance checks and certifications.

    Redjard ,
    @Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

In this context it'd mean something like "the actions of the binary are immutably liked to the spec"

You can have 1 number {1} and two numbers {e, π} but not 1.5 numbers. Therefore all numbers are many not much.
It's about having an indivisible base quantity or not.

I can't have 1 water, I have to agree on a reference amount first and get 1 liter, glas, bottle, or bald eagle worth of water.

Real numbers can't be listed, they are uncountably infinite. And water can be listed. I'd like to order 2 glasses, one bottle, 1.5l, and 231 imperial cubic inches of water please. You could even convert that into integers using molecular counts, but the base unit 1 molecule of water is useless when talking about the concept of water, so in effect and historic knowledge there is none.

You can have many numbers each of much amount.

The old versions are still fine. I never found a sufficient alternative, and it was (predictably) never open sourced despite the claims at aquisition so I couldn't fork it, but at least I can freeze the last good version in time, restrict network access and updates, and hold out as long as I can.
Probably until some future android version breaks it too badly.

I have an eye on Lawnchair, it's just missing customizations.

But I also don't have auto updates, and besides android apps tend to work on newer versions for a very long time unless Google purposefully wants to break them.
