Recalling that the 2008 global financial crisis was rooted in a crisis in mortgage lending, partly due to fraud caused by manipulating sub-prime lending in the USA, we should be concerned that the US Federal Reserve is set to loosen regulations that govern US banks mortgage lending....

While a technical move around capital requirements for bank lending, intended to return mortgage lending to the banking system, the unanticipated results may be less welcome?

The next sign of the impending financial crisis is the imminent loosening of regulatory constraints on US banks being proposed by the Trump administration... rules that were a response to the 2008 global financial crisis are already being loosened & will be formalised in coming months as Washington moves to expand banks' lending capacity...

What can possibly go wrong?

A 'this time its different' narrative again is driving actions that we know will have severe consequences!

The nationalisation (temporary or otherwise) of Thames Water makes ever more sense.

Now the controlling creditors are demanding relief from sewage & pollution regulations for up to 15 years to help them 'rescue' TW... given part of the problem with TW's it is past lack of care for & pollution of water courses, this surely must be the final nail in the coffin of continued private ownership & the draining of funds from TW's customer base.

No seriously you may think it sounds absurd that if you said "umm, are we sure it's a good idea to let the government spy on every form of communication in America" you would be met with accusations of supporting terrorism and being paranoid by "Very Serious PeopleTM."

It literally WAS absurd. But it didn't change anything about public opinion and the political project that was the War on Terror.

Anyway, 0 for 2 on "Trump-Iran" but I really do think I should get partial credit because both times the guy certainly tried. Like, if I told you "Trump is gonna put a missile on Soleimani's car/Bomb Fordow" you'd have said "okay so he's going for a MENA regime change war."

I definitely don't WANT a US regime change war in the MENA, but I keep predicting it because Trump does all the things a guy who wants one would do - and then... declares peace. I... don't get it.

I've been in deep work hyperfixation lately. I've come to realize that this is probably seasonal for me.

Ever since I put a label to the behaviour, I've realized that it happens every Feb-April.

Despite my best efforts of self care, I'm here again.

I'm struggling so hard to take care of myself right now. It feels like an addiction that's seasonal.

Maybe it is some form of addiction. For years, I wrote in my journal "ugh it's like I have ADHD or something" but never actually took that seriously, then wound up being diagnosed with inattentive type ADHD.

Similarly, I keep saying "this is like an addiction". Maybe it's time to start treating it like one.

@untilted actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe icon ActuallyAutistic group actuallyadhd@a.gup.pe icon actuallyadhd group I am only recently diagnosed in my 50th year. My life up to now has largely revolved around self-medication / substance abuse as I’ve searched for something I can eat, smoke or snort that will make me “normal” or fit in. My diagnosis has changed everything from that perspective as I’m learning to accept myself. I’ve tried the racetams, I honestly don’t think they did anything although I kidded myself otherwise for a while 1/2

IMHO there is too much focus on THC and CBD within medical circles, there are multiple different canniboids in good bud. Some of the newer strains IMHO have been bred to maximize THC/CBD at the expense of those. That’s why I prefer the more classic strains that give a more rounded stone.

how about we collect some of our "quirky" sensory sensibilities? I think it's so interesting how different this is among us.

Like, I can't tolerate if my hands smell of soap or lotion.

And it drives me crazy when a tone is held for too long (person singing, person playing the keyboard, trumpet etc). It makes me wanna skin myself.

Just curious if this is an or neurodiverse thing:

Do you like it when people visit you at home?

I have added a poll with two options: 'My home is my castle' (dislike guests) and 'Keep the guests coming' (because you like that). There are separate options for neurodiverse and neurotypical folks. Choose whichever feels best for you.

Personally I HATE having guests. My home is a private place, a retreat where I can be myself, arrange things the way I like, and have random stuff in random places. When I have guests, I always feel judged even if they don't say anything. I never seem to have the correct food and drink available. (Everybody seems to expect coffee, but I don't drink any coffee, and I refuse to have a coffeemaker in my house.) If possible, I will always avoid having guests and rather meet people at their place (if they don't mind) or at a café/restaurant.

When someone advocates for reducing poverty and increasing education as non-genocidal options for lowering birth rates, out of concern for overpopulation, they’re tattling on themselves.

People living in poverty, lacking education, are disproportionately likely to be brown and live in the global south. People living with wealth and enjoying education are disproportionately likely to be white and live in the global north.

The former also tend to have much smaller environmental impacts than the latter:

“The richest 1% of the world’s population produced as much carbon pollution in 2019 as the five billion people who made up the poorest two-thirds of humanity, reveals a new report from Oxfam.”

If we identify the problem as “too many people,” we are equally indicting all people, most of whom contribute marginally to the destruction of the environment and have no say over the systems and institutions that coerce us into overconsumption. But not all people are equally responsible.

With a bit of reading it became obvious to me and I began a journey of understanding myself better. 1/2
