Multiplexer OP ,

Nicht über das nächste Quartal hinaus denken kenne ich hauptsächlich von börsennotierten Firmen, wo es schon oft fragwürdige Resultate liefert.
Bei Staatsregierungen ist es komplett fehl am Platz.

Multiplexer ,

TBF, this doesn't look like a security feature, but just a convenient way to span the chain taut.

Multiplexer ,

I got the impression this has to have some backstory we don't know.
Doesn't make the least bit of sense otherwise.

Multiplexer ,

Found an article about that:

Apparently, people talking to each other on the road is a health hazard.

one of Perth’s richest suburbs

I checked it on Google Maps.
The streets in question are running in parallel to the waterfront, with the houses being build to have direct access to the water.
So it boils down to people building their houses in a beautiful area just to later complain that other people are also drawn to that area (because that is where you will go for recreation).

Reminds me of examples from my home country of people moving to the tiny traditional rural villages because they are so quaint, and then making court appeals because the church towers are chiming regularly (as they have done for the previous 500 years) or that the farmers fertilize the fields behind their house using liquid manure twice a year.

Multiplexer , (edited )

Wow.
What the hell did they do to deserve that punishment?
Worst that could happen to us during my time in the Army was being thrown in the brig.

Multiplexer ,

That's not correct.

I have totally gifted Games via GOG in the past.
E.g. my nephew got KSP from me last birthday.

On the Game page it prominently shows a "buy as present" button.
Recipient doesn't even need his own GOG account.

Perhaps some regional block?
Where are you from?

Multiplexer ,

No, has been around for ages for me. Germany.

Multiplexer ,

Looks like this for Games in my library, for other Games there is a checkbox for gifting later in the order process.

Multiplexer ,

I am afraid a major part of the answer is "inequality".

And lucking out from a geographical standpoint.

Multiplexer ,

Last panel gets it wrong, though.

Rest of the world totally thinks that there is such a thing as original American food:

High-caloric, hyper-processed junk containing no significant nutritional value but much too much fat, fructose sirup and carcinogenic substances.
That, and watery beer.

Multiplexer ,

Dude, Hamburgers are literally named after the non-US city they originally came from...
But I have to admit that the refinement to its delicious present day form is an American achievement!

Multiplexer , (edited )

That's quite disputed.
One of the more likely theories states that the bun idea together with the ground meat steak originated in Hamburg, where it was a variant of the common "Rundstück warm", which has been around since 200 years ago or so.

Multiplexer ,

l don't dispute that (and also that they are probably great - had neither so far, as they are largely unknown here).

It's just that nobody outside of the States thinks of these when they hear "US food".

Also: The jello salad is hilarious!
Hadn't it been a wikipedia link, I would have thought it to be you trying to pull my leg. :-)

Multiplexer , (edited )

I just remembered that we have a very similar traditional dish in my home region (although only in the hefty variant with meat and/or vegetables):
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%BClze
And I also have to say, Schweinskopfsülze (pig head in aspic) is not as bad is looks, but certainly is an acquired taste... :-)

Multiplexer ,

Especially funny as Pecans are a very American thing, they don't even grow in Europe.
So probably a significant part of the US population thinks because of this cake that Germans bake Pecan based stuff, while most Germans (me included) haven't seen a Pecan nut in their whole life. :-)

Multiplexer ,

Perhaps establishing some additional designated Communities will somewhat reduce the US-centric pressure from the more general communities.
So, not a bad thing, I would say.

Multiplexer ,

Dude's coming from a Swedish Lemmy instance, so quite probably is a Swede.
Swedes don't eat Hagelslag, that's a Dutch thing, so I guess he is entitled to stay ;-)

Multiplexer ,

Comment was not about what is, but what the rest of the world thinks it to be.
And that is not fancy West Coast craft beer or so, but Bud Light and Coors, I am afraid...

💧 𝟭𝟬 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱! 🧐

Groundwater is one of our most important resources, but it is often misunderstood. Let's clear up some common misconceptions! ...

Multiplexer ,

Feeling the need to state "they are closer to Antifa than anything else" about your opponents might be a good point to rethink your ethics...

Multiplexer ,

Love the idea of fire juggling unicycle clowns!

But the real news I took from the article:

Police drones captured footage of a man wearing bright-colored clothes riding a unicycle in a crosswalk

Your police uses drones to patrol the streets and respond to calls?

Multiplexer , (edited )

If it was just that, it would be totally ok.

But in reality, cop-controlled flying cameras flying around checking out things like minor traffic violations sounds scarily dystopian to me.

Multiplexer ,

Totally.

The Milky Way is on a collision course with Andromeda, so we are already on our way!

Multiplexer ,

You are confusing that with Galactica from Andromeda out of the "Hello Spencer" TV series.

The "Andromeda Strain" was about human hubris and the reasons we are probably not going to become intergalactic travellers...

Multiplexer ,

I wondered why I didn't remember a mini series to exist - then saw its Rotten Tomato rating...

So perhaps better watch the film instead.
It has a few 60s movie moments, but overall was really fun to watch, with most of the science being surprisingly solid, given its age.

Multiplexer OP ,

I am confident that there is still growth potential along the remaining route!

Let me tell you about me once trying to get from Mainz to Nürnberg some time...

Multiplexer OP ,

It certainly should be here by now.

But I still value the work ethics of the ICE personal very much.

It's not their fault that their employer isn't able to coordinate procedures efficiently...

Multiplexer OP ,

So we are still not worst?
I guess that's... uplifting?

Multiplexer OP ,

There was a bus substitute on one of my routes some time ago.
Turned out it was faster than the train because it took the Autobahn.
First time in my life arriving 20 mins early at that destination...

Multiplexer OP ,

You can imagine I gave up and did not go.

Not an option for me, mandatory appointment.

But something similar happened for as with your buses, but fortunately in a good way:
The preceding ICE was even more delayed, so I was able to catch that one instead. :-)

Multiplexer OP ,

Or the Swiss.

Multiplexer OP ,

What happened [...]?

The long term effects of privatization and decades of car centric politics.

Multiplexer OP ,

Celebrating sounds very Italian... We Germans just share some sarcastic comments with our fellow travellers. :-)

Multiplexer OP ,

Sadly a thing of the past...

Multiplexer OP ,

Yes, seatbelts and comfortable seats.
Definitely an improvement to the Regionalexpress!

Return voyage working out much better, so l am happy again! :-)

Multiplexer OP ,

Wow, that must be the most frustrating feeling ever.
"Your halt has been canceled today..."

Multiplexer OP , (edited )

This is solid advice, although in my case it has been a ticket without Zugbindung, as it has been for a work trip.

I got reimbursed 25% one time last year, but had several trips where the delay annoyingly just stayed a few minutes below the magic 1hr mark. :-)

Multiplexer ,

The whole brainrot thing goes in the right direction, but is not really a music genre.
The Skibidi song e.g. is pretty conventional stuff.
The videos are the avant-garde part here.

Multiplexer , (edited )

Might well be, some variant of rap seems to be a good candidate.
Although here in Germany I would rather see immigrant-influenced Deutschrap here, maybe connected to the Talahon youth culture.
That would definitely fit the bill, as I certainly will never become a fan of any kind of macho ultra-conservatism.

Multiplexer ,

Don't know Hanabie, but Electric Callboy certainly is the ultimate comfort music for GenX and Millenials.
The Europop-Techno-Metal mix massively tingels my nostalgia based on the music genres of my youth. Plus it is a surprisingly fitting combination and rocks on a massive scale. :-)

Multiplexer ,

I don't know... Wasn't the first to use autotune Cher?
You can't get much more Boomer than Cher I would say...

Multiplexer ,

Commenter said "or", so not the combination of both.

Multiplexer ,

Just looked them up.
Fentanyl I found classified as Hardcore Punk, which would already be around since the 80s.
But 100 gecs seems to be something called Hyperpop, which is a genuine new GenZ thing!
Sounds interesting, will have a look!

Multiplexer ,

Growing up in a still deeply Catholic environment, and having heard all those Satanism-warnings in my 80s school classes (best promotion ever...) it was more Metal for me.
But yes, also "Bad Religion", for obvious reasons... ;-)
