Foggy morning in Vienna's City Park.
The photo documents yesterday's 5-minute walk through the park. Unfortunately, I didn't have more time.

The Vienna City Park on a foggy and cloudy morning. In the foreground, there is a vast lawn in a park with two trees growing on it. The tree on the right is very large, and its left branch runs horizontally across the entire frame to its left edge. Parallel to this branch, under the tree, you can see a row of park benches. The left side of the photo is closed off by a second, smaller tree with interestingly twisted branches. The horizontal branch and the benches below form a frame through which you can see the beautiful Kursalon Hübner building.

The first snow is behind us.
After the first snowfall, the weather has warmed up and there are no longer any traces of snow in the forest. In many places, you can still find remnants of autumn.

The photo shows a carpet of moss. In its center are dark brown rotten leaves, at the end of which several blunt mushrooms grow. In the foreground of the leaves, on the dark brown ones, there is one lighter oak leaf covered with water droplets.

October fall in the afternoon forest.
In the parts of the forest hidden behind the hill, the leaves stay on the trees a little longer. But there are also a lot of them under the trees. 😀

October fall in the afternoon forest. The lower half of the frame shows the forest floor, densely covered with orange-brown leaves. On the right side at the bottom, there is a large patch of green moss, without leaves. The upper half of the frame shows a slightly blurred wall of a colorful autumn forest. On the right side of this large area covered with leaves, a large beech trunk grows. On the left, at the end of the carpet of leaves, there is a small beech tree with quite a few rusty yellow leaves still on it, and in front of it a small stump from a felled tree.

After the autumn storm.
October 2025.
Returning from my wanderings around the Polish Jura, a few miles from Krakow, I was caught in a storm and heavy rain. When the rain stopped, the sky took on amazing colors. Everything around me turned gray-blue, orange, and gold.

The photo shows farmland dotted with trees and forest on the horizon, bathed in golden-orange light. The upper half of the frame is a golden-orange sky with a touch of gray-blue. Blurry and incredibly colorful clouds after a storm create a unique atmosphere. This light also colors the crops and trees in the lower half of the frame. To the left of these fields stands a solitary limestone rock, clearly visible in this light. On the right, there is a group of trees, including two tall leafless trees that form a beautiful silhouette against the colorful sky.

How mushrooms cross the river.

Close-up of a broken and moss-covered willow tree connecting the two banks of a small forest stream. The tree trunk connects the lower right corner of the photo with the upper left corner. Over fifty small mushrooms grow along the trunk of this willow tree. It is probably a representative of the genus Hypholoma (H. fasciculare or H. lateritium). The mushrooms grow in small clusters, giving the impression that they are crossing to the other side of the stream. Under the willow tree with mushrooms you can see the water of a lazy stream. In the background, a blurred shore covered with grass.

At the foot of the tree.
Unfortunately, I don't know what species it is. Do you have any suggestions? Of course, I know that identifying a species based on a photo is often impossible.

School of cooperation. September 2025.

The photo shows an old, rotten tree stump among dry, brown leaves. Almost the entire stump is covered with lichens and moss. Two young beech seedlings grow from the lower part of the stump. The smaller one on the left and the larger one on the right side of the stump. The leaves on these beech seedlings have already taken on a slightly yellow tint.

A boletus mushroom found during a Sunday walk - Boletus edulis.
I found many other that day, but this one had such a beautiful cap.

Water loves the sun.

View from the hill of Lake Dobczyce. At the bottom of the frame, behind several trees that form the lower frame of the photo, there is a vast surface of the lake. Across the water, we can see the opposite shore of the lake, with small hills covered with forest. The lake shore forms several bays deep into the forest. The top of the frame is a blue sky with lots of small white clouds.

Where the Forest Meets the Lake.

The photo shows at the bottom of the frame a small bay on Lake Dobczyce, which disappears into the forest with a narrow strip of water. On the lower right, warm sunlight illuminates a section of water, the shore, and parts of trees. Above the water there is a wide strip of forest, in which only some trees are slightly brightened by the sun. The top of the frame is closed by a blue sky with single white clouds.

Forest twins.
August 2025.

The photo shows two large hornbeams with intertwined roots in a dark forest. The trees grow on a mountainside that cuts the frame in half, from the lower left to the upper right corner. The tree trunks are bent and the roots are tightly intertwined. The roots of the tree on the right are covered with moss. The mountainside is covered with dry brown leaves. Under the root of the left tree, there is a small burrow with traces of fresh soil thrown out by its inhabitant. In the background, behind the hill, a wall of dark green forest.

Restricted area.
August 2025.

In the center of the frame, there are two large deciduous trees surrounded by grass that has been mowed and dried out by the sun. A narrow, circular asphalt road and streetlights surround the trees. Two roads lead to this roundabout. One road from the lower right part of the frame, and the other from the upper right side. The upper road connects to the main road, but is separated from it by a gate. Behind the main road, in the background, a wall of forest. The entire area looks like a park ready for walking, but it is closed to people. It is a protected area near a dam.

There was a tree.
August 2025.

The photo shows a large, rotten tree stump in a dark forest, covered with moss. The stump runs from the lower left corner of the frame to the upper right. The end of the stump and its sides are blurred. The stump is almost completely covered with moss. At its top grows a group of small balsams (Impatiens parviflora).

A hidden meadow in the wilderness.
August 2025.

A small meadow hidden in the middle of a dark forest. Nearly halfway down the frame is a green meadow. Golden grasses and white flowers can be seen on the left side of the meadow. Above the meadow is a strip of dark trees, forming the border of the forest. Over the forest, a blue afternoon sky with white clouds.

The entire frame is filled with green beech leaves. The sun shines through the central part of the frame, making it appear more yellow. On the left side of the frame, two beech trunks can be seen through the leaves.

It's time to go home. A fisherman on a lake in Masuria.


Mazury

A lake in Masuria shortly after sunset. The upper half of the frame shows a dark, cloudy sky with a dark orange bottom from the sun already hidden behind the horizon. The lower part is a silky surface of the lake, reflecting the colorful sky. At the end of the lake, in the center of the frame, the dark outline of an island merges with the forest on the other shore. In the lower right corner, there is a small boat with a fisherman holding a fishing rod. In the lower right corner, in the twilight, there is a small boat with a fisherman holding a fishing rod. Next to the boat, there is a reflection of light on the water, which leads to the left and then towards the island.

Old forest friends.

Late afternoon in a dark deciduous forest. In the foreground, in the center of the frame, there is a large old hornbeam with a wavy trunk. The tree has many roots that branch out into even smaller ones and are partially covered with moss. At the bottom of the frame, around the roots of a hornbeam, brown-orange dry leaves. To the right of the large hornbeam tree you can see the trunk of a large beech tree, and to the left of it are several other large beech trees. Hard work in the garden today.
But all the time, my lilies were watching me. They smiled at me so much that I brought my camera. 😀

Willow - a friend of the river.
Southern Poland. June 2025.

A large willow tree growing on the bank of an oxbow lake in the warm afternoon sun. The tree grows on the left side of the photo and its crown occupies the upper left quarter of the frame. The trunk of the tree is slightly slanted toward the water. Behind the willow tree, a wide strip of old river water curves to the right in the distance. On the other bank we see some tall trees and a regular strip of low bushes along the river. Above this intensely green river valley a huge blue sky with white clouds.

Lost among the trees.
The Eagles' Nests Landscape Park - Southern Poland. June 2025

The photo shows a beech forest with single limestone rocks, illuminated by the midday sun. At the bottom of the frame we see the heart-shaped green leaves of the plant. In the middle of the landscape.
Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec. Southern Poland. Sunday's walk - June 2025

The photo shows a large monastery, situated on a limestone hill in the middle of greenery. The frame is divided into 3 equal horizontal parts. One third of the frame from the bottom is a close-up of a dark green oat field, beyond which a narrow strip of yellowish grass peeks out. The middle strip is a tree-covered limestone hill on which stands a sprawling monastery. Limestone rocks are visible only on the right side under the monastery buildings. The upper part of the photo is a cloudy sky with a gray-blue color.

Pocket will be closed as of July 8, 2025. If you are looking for alternatives, I researched about 20 similar systems for my needs a few years ago.

In the end, I chose two different systems:

START.ME - as a quick dashboard for hundreds of frequently visited sites.

PINCONE.COM - as a library of articles with featured images and a tree-based category structure.

Both tools are mobile and have browser add-ons for adding pages quickly.
You can see a list of other tested tools in the attached image. In the attached list, the programs are sorted in alphabetical order.

A beaver dam in a swampy forest in southern Poland.
This year's spring in this area is very dry. Beavers know how important water management is.
April 2025

The photo shows a beaver dam on a small, brown river that flows through a swampy forest. One third of the frame from the bottom shows a dam built of sticks debarked by beavers. Fresh green grass grows between the sticks. The center of the frame is a brown, swampy river that flows lazily from the right side of the frame and spreads wide in front of the dam. To the left of the water lies the crooked trunk of an old tree. The upper part of the frame is a dark swamp forest covered mainly with alder. Between the trees fresh spring grass. The entire scene is illuminated by the soft, warm afternoon sun.

Ice formations on the rocks of Babia Góra.

The photo shows a group of cracked rocks on Babia Góra Mountain. The rocks occupy more than half of the lower right corner of the photograph. The rest of the photo is an intensely blue, cloudless sky. To the left of the rocks, in the lower left corner, you can see several small, wind-beaten spruce trees, and behind them, forested mountains. In the foreground, just below the rocks, there is still snow. In the upper part of the rocks you can see interesting white ice formations, created by strong winds.

View of the Tatra Mountains from Babia Góra.
Spring is slowly beginning on Babia Góra. Snow can be found only in a few shady places and, of course, on the top of the mountain. The high peaks of the Tatra Mountains still completely white.

The photo shows a panorama of the snowy Tatra Mountains from Babia Góra. The bottom half of the photo shows partially out-of-focus green branches of the mountain pine. The upper part is the snow-capped Tatra Mountains. The mountains are slightly hazy, photographed from a distance of about 40 km in the afternoon sun. Above the mountains a narrow strip of blue sky and on it a strip of clouds parallel to the mountains.

Green returns to the forest.
Dentaria glandulosa (Cardamine glanduligera) - PL: Żywiec gruczołowaty

On the right side of the photo you can see a large trunk of an old alder. On the left, a wild plant creeping along the ground and emerging from the trunk. This plant is Dentaria glandulosa (Cardamine glanduligera). PL: Żywiec gruczołowaty. A typical forest plant, especially in beech forests. Dentaria glandulosa forms characteristic green carpets in early spring, when many other plants have not yet developed leaves. It is a plant with beautiful purple flowers and palmate-trifoliate leaves, found in the Carpathian Mountains and Subcarpathian region, as well as lower down, but adjacent to the mountains. I found this particular one about 50 km south of Cracow, on the edge of a beech forest, close to a small forest stream.

Beaver Kingdom.
March 2025.

A vast grassy area flooded by beavers, surrounded by a pine forest. All in the warm afternoon sun. The lower two-thirds of the frame are golden-yellow dried grasses. From the lower left corner towards the upper right, a wide strip of dark water reflecting the sky. On the right side of the water there are a lot of dry branches cut down by beavers. To the left of the strip of water, in the upper part of the grass, we can see a beaver's lodge, and to the right of it three large tree trunks. The photo ends with a wall of a pine forest and above it a blue, cloudless sky.

Forest beaver dam and small waterfall.
March 2025.

The photo shows a beaver dam on a small forest stream in warm afternoon sun. There is a lot of dry grass everywhere. The dam runs from the left to the right of the photo, halfway up the frame. On the left side of the dam a stream of water flows down, creating a small, blurred waterfall (long exposure). Below the waterfall the first pieces of green grass grow. Above the dam, an old fallen tree trunk is submerged in the water. Grasses and trees are reflected in the water surface. At the very top of the frame is the bank of a stream covered with dry, yellow-beige grass.
