How my Firefox became a LibreWolf

@davidrevoy As someone who used to help contribute to Firefox, and who, outside the development, made a Linux installer for Firefox ("Firefox Automatic Installer for Linux"), I absolutely hate LibreWolf. -- Why? 🤔

LibreWorlf often breaks things (repeatedly). Then proceeds to blame Mozilla Firefox, even when Firefox was still good. They seldom took responsibility for their own issues and always passed the blame, despite those issues being exclusive to LibreWolf.

This only further hurt Firefox, because you had all these people saying, "just use LibreWolf" while also saying, "Firefox is the problem." But LibreWolf 100% depends on Firefox. They're a soft-fork who has made it clear, they have no intention of ever going independent. That means, when Firefox goes, so does, LibreWolf.

I switched to Vivaldi Browser. It is everything Firefox should have been. Yes, it is Chromium fork, but they do not follow along with everything Google does. Not only do they include their own ad-blocker, but they worked with uBlock to include v3 support going forward, that works nicely alongside their ad-blocker. I even use Privacy Badger alongside both.

If you're not using Vivaldi Browser, you're not using a web browser, you're using spyware.

Stop using spyware, and start using the only web browser that respects you and your privacy, by using, Vivaldi Browser.

@teun Because Brave Browser owns that website.

It is propaganda.

@teun > " The website is run by someone who became a Brave employee "

No conflict of interest whatsoever. / Sarcasm 🙄

@xdydx Yes, I work for Meta, but I will and have repeatedly told people Facebook is shit.

It is something else when a Brave employee runs a site that list Brave 1st and claims how poor all other browsers stand against it.

One of us, is honest about the company we work for. The other is selling the party line for the company.

I keep getting asked this (repeatedly).

" What about Proton VPN? I think they are in Europe."

A division of Proton is now a US-based company. Particularly, Proton Wallet. Their Terms of Services, also goes into lengths concerning Us Laws and Us Customers. It goes beyond just the CEO's support for fascism leadership (Donald Trump).

Naturally, making this list is not easy. These are two types of companies I avoided in making my list.

  1. Those who actually fall under US-jurisdiction because they are based or owned by a company in the USA.

More than often, I will stumble over a company that appears to be outside the USA, but later find they are owned by another corporation based inside the USA, and so they do fall under US-jurisdiction.

  1. Those who voluntarily give up their sovereignty to the United States. The 2nd type, who voluntarily gives up their sovereignty in the way of US jurisdiction, have whole sections of their terms concerning US Laws and US based customers. If a fascist government says jump, these people will ask, how high?!

Anyone who goes through my post history, knows I work for Meta (Facebook).

I am "Consumer Content Administrative Manager". My primary duties include content appeals, account appeals, account reviews, and some peer review.

It is no surprise that my job depends on people using Facebook. Today, I am going to suggest, you not do so. I can make that suggestion because we have a user base of billions, and I know most people would keep using Facebook even if the Devil ran the company. People are strange.

But if you feel you can truly live without Facebook, do so. Internally, things are changing, and not for the better. You should especially consider leaving Meta if you are a minority, woman, LGBTQ+, trans, or identify as progressive, politically. If facts matter to you, and misinformation is something you do not want to be subject toward, you should especially consider leaving, Facebook.

You have no privacy from Meta, while using Meta. None. I do not care if you believe you disabled a "feature" or "opt out" of something. You only seem to have done so. And even if you're going to continue to use Meta, uninstall the app (all of them). We collect data on you, even when you're not using the app.

@aurochs
You have no privacy with any Meta app. Do you see that report button in WhatsApp? It works

People think end-to-end encryption means their data is encrypted between themselves and the other person. That is how it should work.

But that is a liability Meta will not take. We are, after all, are responsible for anything that takes place on our platform. Our end-to-end encryption is between you, our servers, and the other person. It's encrypted enough that others can't see, but not from us

@itsfoss Awesome.

This is how AI should be done. For the benefit of people while still keeping their privacy. Glad VLC is doing just that.

There's a third party Mastodon app for Android which might be new to you, it's called Rodent and there's more info about it at:

There's also an official account you can follow at:

➡️ @rodentapp

It has some unusual features including browsing servers other than your own.

NEW PEOPLE: You don't have to use the official apps with Mastodon, in fact the third party apps are often much better than the official ones. More info at https://fedi.tips/which-apps-can-i-use-should-i-use-the-official-app-or-a-third-party-app

In the spirit of that, it would be great if you paid some attention to Misskey, the other half of the Fediverse. lol

Linus Torvalds has always been focused on improving the Linux desktop. 🐧

That is why, I always recommend Ultramarine Linux - Especially to newbies.

You're going to have a full working desktop with drivers, firmware, media codecs, and repos already taken care of. Directly after install, you can use your Desktop PC right away. Even your GPU drivers, no matter if they are Nvidia, AMD, or Intel, are already configures. -- That makes it, technically, easier than Windows.

It's a direct fork of Fedora Linux, so you're not dealing with multiple upstreams. You've also got 25+ years of documentation, community forums, and live chat if you need it.

COSMIC player now exists, can confirm, it is COSMIC and it does in fact play videos,

More on that in the next COSMIC stream

Non-free media codecs playback would be nice. Something for you to test and share in the video.

Digital providers I suggest outside the United States of America.

DNS: AdGuard DNS, located in Cyprus, Europe

Email with calendar: Tuta, located in Germany, Europe

VPN: iVPN, located, Gibraltar, Europe (UK territory)

Domain Name Register / Web hosting:

Note: While you can often buy domain names and hosting from the same place, I suggest you keep these two services separate from each other.

OVH, located in France, Europe
Netcup, located in Germany, Europe
Glesys, located in Sweden, Europe

@itsfoss Ultramarine Linux (KDE Plasma). - It just works.

For a newbie, it already includes your drives, firmware, media codecs, and repositories. No matter if you are using Nvidia, Amd, or Intel, your GPU works upon install - In that regard it is easier than Windows.

You can install, remove, or update apps through the store. You can also upgrade your whole OS through the store - It is integrated like Windows Update, and notifies you when it has updates. You can download a 3rd party setup file (Rpm) and double-click to install, just like you would a Windows setup file. Control Panel (settings) are all point and click too.
