We all know what people mean by it; they mean "black" but are scared to say it for whatever reason.

Doug Ford is Premier of Ontario.

His brother, Rob Ford, was mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014. He passed away in 2016, and he's the one who admitted to smoking crack whilst mayor.

They're both idiotic conservative assholes and I have no idea how so many people in Ontario support them.

[Deck] A Linux Power User Puts SteamOS To Work ( hackaday.com )

The line between a Linux user and a Linux power user is a bit gray, and a bit wide. Most people who install Linux already have more computer literacy than average, and the platform has long encouraged experimentation and construction in a way macOS and Windows generally aren’t designed for. Traditional Linux distributions ...

Most non-binary people I know who date lesbians use the terms sapphic and lesbian to describe both themselves and their relationships. Note; "most non-binary people I know" used to identify as lesbian (or bi/pan) women and they still feel an attachment to that community despite not being women.

At the end of the day, though, labels are about what feel right to you. If you feel that sapphic/lesbian accurately describe you or your relationships, go ahead and use them! It doesn't make you any less non-binary.

Personally, I just use "queer" for everything :P

What do you think happens to male chicks in the egg industry? I'll give you a hint, it involves industrial grinders and pink paste.

Cows produce milk for their young, like all mammals. The "need" to milk them arises from milk production, in which we forcibly impregnate cows and take their young away. You can hardly call something a "need" if it only happens once you purposefully impregnate a cow for its milk and abduct their calves.

And that's disregarding the atrocious conditions in hatcheries and dairy farms.

The egg and dairy industries are the meat industry, and honestly anyone who's vegetarian for "ethical" reasons without immediate plans to become vegan are deluding themselves.

My first partner was adopted from China as a baby, so she looked Chinese but culturally she was 100% Canadian, raised in a very meat & potatoes kind of family.

My mom is a bit of a hippy, so she loved cooking stuff from all different cuisines and we'd regularly use chopsticks at home if eating Asian foods.

We went to a Chinese place together once and the staff were howling with laughter at the white kid using chopsticks opposite the Asian woman with a knife and fork. She learned how to use chopsticks shortly after, haha.

As I read it, their argument is that fascism can only be sustained if a sizable number of people who would suffer under fascism actively support it.

If only the tiny minority of elites that benefits from fascism actually supported it, it wouldn't be near the level of popularity necessary to be sustainable.

Explain how AI haters or doubters cross over with Veganism at all as a comparison?

They're both taking a moral stance regarding their consumption despite large swathes of society considering these choices to be morally neutral or even good. I've been vegan for almost a decade and dislike AI, and while I don't think being anti-AI is quite as ostracizing as being vegan, the comparison definitely seems reasonable to me. The behaviour of rabid meat eaters and fervent AI supporters are also quite similar.

I'm originally from a pretty rural place, so snow clearing consisted of a plow simply pushing the snow to the side of the road.

That obviously doesn't work in a dense urban area like Montréal. When I lived there, I was amazed at the snow removal process. The plows are accompanied by big trucks in which they throw the snow, which then gets dumped in these huge snow mountains around the city. It's quite an intense process. Also anyone who's lived in the city has heard the dreaded siren at 3am on a snowy night when someone forgot to move their car for the plow.

Here's a great video from a Montréal-based urbanism YouTube channel about the snow removal process, which includes the siren in the first few seconds.

Everyone outside Paris was cool, but I totally get the stereotypes about Parisians. Democrats stopped using "gay" as a pejorative like 25 years ago. We all agreed not to anymore.

The amount of homophobic rhetoric I've seen used to describe Trump and Putin is really contradicting this statement.

Democrats love homophobia if they can justify it as "we're saying homophobic things but only to homophobes therefore it's okay! It's tactical homophobia, not actual homophobia!"

(To be clear, fuck both Trump and Putin, they're monsters, but saying shit like "Trump just wants to suck daddy Putin's cock" is homophobic.)

I've been struggling with alcohol consumption since the pandemic, but it's gotten a lot worse in the past few months.

I started playing Disco Elysium the other day, while trying to distract myself from wanting to drink. It's a game where you play as an alcoholic detective who is experiencing extreme amnesia due to excessive drinking.

Trying to get back into gaming has been one of the things helping me to avoid drinking since I got a Steam Deck a few months ago (you try beating Celeste under the influence, it's hard enough sober). Disco Elysium is the first game, or really media in general, to truly make me rethink my drinking habits. I'm only about 15 hours in and it's already shaping up to be one of my favourite games ever.

Bonus, here's the meme that convinced me to start playing Disco Elysium:
