Lol. Nvidia isn't part of the bubble. The bubble is all the small, unknown SW companies that are getting crazy bug valuations without making any money. Nvidia sell physical chips to the largest companies in the planet. That's not just going to stop...it could taper...but it's not just going to stop overnight.

Bitswap ,

The article mentions nothing about nvidia giving up on WoA and I highly doubt they have. This seems like a great choice to give people what they want in the short term while they work on bringing WoA to reality in the long term.

x86 dominates consumer desktop/gaming space now...but i believe long term x86 is dead. The future is arm.

Bitswap ,

I want RISC-V to win so badly.

Bitswap ,

x86 dominates today. Its a smart move.

I don't think legacy software will keep x86 around and winning forever. Things change and its not always easy to see it before it happens. I believe all the reasons you listed will keep x86 around for quite a while.

As I told another, I want RISC-V to win so badly

Bitswap ,

When I say arm will win in the long run, I don't mean that WoA will have anything to do with it. WoA as it exists today will likely be abandoned.

I do think in the next decade Microsoft will focus on creating a full abstraction layer so it's software can run on any HW. This would be a longterm play. At launch, Would it be feature parity with what exists today...no. but over time it will build up the codebade, drivers, etc. To over take the current windows ecosystem.

Bitswap ,

Has there been any disruption of profits and influence of western corps due to RISC-V? To my knowledge, not yet and its not a sure thing.

Im not entirely sure your point of view is a win for OS. When other nation states view it as a threat instead of an option it leaves the door open for all the sabotage, etc. that nation states to to each other.

IceDrive silently lost 12% of my files (3,000+ files) over 3 years. Check your backup NOW.

IceDrive lost thousands of my files without any notification. Their support escalated my ticket, then ghosted me for 2 weeks before closing it. I'm sharing a script to check if your files are actually backed up: https://github.com/rupumped/NicksAPPS/blob/main/Python/IceDriveVerification.py. Note that it requires argparse. ...

Bitswap ,

So they just closed your ticket without reason or resolution? No answer?

Bitswap ,

Bummer. Did you open another ticket?

Bitswap ,

Troll

Bitswap ,

What do you mean connect to the GPUs GPIO?

Bitswap ,

Why is this guy popping up so much lately on Lemmy? I remember thinking this guy was a piece of shit about a decade ago...

I haven't kept up with the times. Was I right? Or did I become an angry old man 20 years to early?

Bitswap ,

Watching the video is unlikely to answer my question.

Bitswap ,

Quite literally the opposite. The first minute does not answer my question about why he has been appearing all over lemmy. Neither do the comments here.

Sure he's trying to degoogle. Hence this post, but that is not what I asked.

Unclear if you're a troll or just choosing to be dense...

Bitswap ,

Ah, clearly a degen troll. My lemmy will be a better place with you on the block list.

Bitswap ,

Does no one remember how sarcastic this man is?

Bitswap ,

Curious what your issues with glusencamp-perez are? I don't live in her district, but seems like she represents her constituents fairly well for how politically split the district is...but again I'm not necessarily in the know.

Bitswap ,

It's an awesome place. Come join us.

Bitswap ,

Yeah. Actually confused me for a minute and I had to go dig into all the different communities on mander.

I think it makes sense to change the display name.

Bitswap ,

What do you do for self-employment? I've always thought that being self employed would be awesome.

Bitswap OP Mod ,

Well...it can be an long conversation but the TL;DR is there were several space communities and it will help lemmy grow to consolidate. Mander was chosen because they are science focused and LW holds ~40% of all lemmy users. To avoid one community from dominating lemmy we need to spread the usage to multiple instances.

Bitswap OP Mod ,

Sheesh...cloudflare is everywhere!

Bitswap ,

Seems like you're on the west coast (USA). Me too.

I'm hoping I get to duck out for a bit and take it all in after bedtime and chores. I won't be able to pull out a telescope tonight, but sometimes binoculars surprise me.

Bitswap Mod ,

Ooooo. That's fun.

Got any pictures of the wintertime? Curious what it looks like then.

Bitswap Mod ,

Where are you located? How harsh of winters do you get? How wet is your spring?

I've always been interested in doing this. Winters are fairly mild here in my part of the PNW, but have doubts that I wouldn't just have a mud pit in the fall/spring.

Bitswap , (edited )

Agreed. Consolidation would benefit the community and likely help it grow further. I don't know much about mander.xyz, but I'm not attached to LW.

I'd be happy to continue moderating if we migrate elsewhere.

Edit: I just noticed how small mander.xyz community is, 90/month vs 4k/month.

Bitswap ,

I'd be happy to moderate on mander.xyz if we consolidate over there.

Bitswap ,

Great to hear!

Bitswap ,
Bitswap ,

Yeah. Looks good. Thanks Otter!

One thing to think about is that recently we had a few requests to create a rule about quality sources. I was always torn about it. The post with links to bad sources/bad science brought out some of the highest engagement from the whole community and spurred some great educational dialogs.

I don't like the idea of keeping a disallowed list of sources. Nor do I like the idea of debating source quality.

Bitswap ,

I was waiting for this to be busted out reading down that comment chain. Surprised it took so long.

Bitswap ,

You don't think major thematic elements of The Orville match Star Trek? Really? You see nothing similar?

Bitswap ,

So you're saying they are similar in some ways. Good. I totally agree. Yes, they are different in many ways, but I'm glad you abandoned the claim that they aren't similar.

Bitswap ,

How many subscribers do you have?

Bitswap ,

Is intel killing off their dGPU?

Bitswap ,

I find it funny how many startups out their claim that they beat nvidias performance..but then never can produce any of their revolutionary products...

Bitswap ,

Nice. I might copy your idea.

Bitswap ,

Wild stuff!

Bitswap ,

Yay!

Bitswap ,

Do you think deepseek is "on top"?

Bitswap ,

I actually just repleace mine. I found that it was actually getting pretty slow at browsing the web. Websites have so much garbage code running on them these days. Funny that the new Samsung phones have the same amount of RAM and storage.

Also, the security updates thing was getting to me. I have way to much banking info exposed on my phone to keep using it out of security update window.

Bitswap ,

Mini racks are not for people using traditional rack mount devices. Mini racks are for SBCs, NUCs and other Small form factor PCs.

I for one am a fan. I will never want traditional 19" inch rack mount server devices in my home. Too much power, noise and heat.

Now...I just need to get an Nvidia DIGITs to mount on my mini rack.

Bitswap ,

I hope you feel the same about cars...

Bitswap Mod ,

New property so planting blueberries, grapes, raspberries and a couple fruit trees.

Bitswap OP ,

I haven't done that since I was 6. I made an eagle, then painted and fired it. I still have it. It looks nothing like an eagle.

Bitswap ,

Let's see anyone update or the finished board!
