A large, round, crocheted ball with visible stitch detail rests on a patterned surface. A smaller ball of yarn sits in the background, with a white cord emerging from the main ball. The scene is in black and white, and the lighting is soft daylight.
When I emphasize the slowness of my work process, I don't mean that I rest on my laurels and do nothing... /let's say it like that in English... The process is ongoing all the time; sawing the wooden bases, sanding, finishing the edges, priming with gesso, attaching the hanger and only then do we get to the actual painting. In this picture, that round birch plywood has been sanded and is waiting for the first layer of gesso to dry. I usually apply 2-3 coats of primer depending on the situation. Of course, you can do other work while it's drying... ✌️☺️🥰
A round birch plywood panel lying on a work surface, freshly sanded and waiting for the first layer of gesso to dry. The edges are smooth, and the surface shows the natural grain of the wood. The image captures a quiet moment in the slow, handcrafted painting process before the actual painting begins.
I’m experimenting a little with my style these days and I’ve sketched this conceptual thing :artcapy2:
(Help! The worldbuilding around this drawing is getting out of hand in my head with magical metal resonances and warrior-musicians fighting creatures from beyond the plains…)
It will not be the last thing I draw in this universe tho :D
Sketch of a woman with long hair moving with the wind. She is looking into the distance, waiting for a threat to appear, holding a long staff made of metal, adorned with bells and jingles. She’s in profile so only her head and shoulders are visible. In her forehead shines a magical symbol.
Work in progress shot of a watercolor painting of a cute kitty in green grass with flowers and a ladybug, by Karen Kaspar. The first layers of paint for the meadow are applied.
Work in progress shot of my new watercolor painting "Cat Gazing at the Stars" -
The cat's face and the background are not yet finished. A black and white cat with shining eyes looks up at the starry night sky with a smile. The night sky with the Milky Way, shining stars and a shooting star can be seen in the background.
Cat gazing at the stars is a hand-painted watercolour painting in portrait format by the artist Karen Kaspar.
Seuraavaksi pohjustus gessolla kaksi kertaa. Kun pohjustukset on kuivuneet, sitten päästään maalaamaan ensimmäinen aluskerros öljyväreillä. Tästä teoksesta tulee pyöreä.
“This is where the process begins: I’ve chosen a birch plywood painting base in the right size (thick enough so it won’t warp as it dries), sanded it, and now I’m attaching the hanging wire to the back. Next comes two layers of gesso. Once the priming has dried, I can start painting the first underlayer with oil paints. This piece will be round.”
“A birch plywood painting base on a table. The surface has been sanded, and a hanging wire is being attached to the back. Tools lie nearby, and the light highlights the texture of the wood.”
a painting of a mother holding her baby, the baby is resting on her hip, her arms around it, she is wearing an oversized hooded sweatshirt, looking out at a body of water, the painting is done in a realistic impressionist style
