shout out to shattuck Ace hardware in #ArlingtonMA who not only had all 3 things I needed in stock, but they had my online order ready for pickup 6 minutes after I put it in. Plus they still had ice melt, shovels, and gloves a plenty. Not enshittified. #ShopLocal#Boston
Do you love your library? Do you remember the old-school due date cards and the satisfying KA-CHUNKA of stamping a due date? Do you enjoy carrying your belongings in a stylish, sturdy, and practical messenger bag?
GREAT NEWS. I have precisely one (1) library-themed messenger bag available for a fortunate being. I ship anywhere within the US or arrange local pickup if you’re in the Cambridge/Somerville (MA) region.
If this isn’t quite up your alley, I have other great gifts for the nerds in your life! Poke around my website and see if something is more to your liking! https://rhymes-with-doctor.myshopify.com/
As was foretold, I have managed to finish up two more messenger bags and will have them for sale this SUNDAY DEC 7 at the HOLIDAY MARKET at 438 Somerville Ave 12-6. Should be a blast, there's three floors of artists, makers, and local organizations, Cambridge Hackspace is hosting a repair clinic during the market, there's gonna be live music, drinks & snacks. Come say hi, get your holiday shopping done early and support the local artists who keep your community good and weird. And there's two other markets right around the corner! IT WILL BE FUN.
Milk Row (where I’ll be, in the basement): 438 Somerville Ave. 12-6p (Building is not reported to be accessible, per SOS website.)
Aeronaut’s Holiday Market: 14 Tyler St. 1-6p
Green & Jolly Holiday Faire: Bow Market 2-6p
Y'all . . . Y'ALL! I went to the local pre-Thanksgiving version of our farmer's market today. The booth that is always selling "neat but not enough for me to warrant buying" hand-printed t-shirts (using carved wood blocks!) was there, and they had some holiday fare.
They had a fkn Mari Lwyd shirt. Heck yes it came home with me.
A green shirt front with a black line-art design printed on it. The design centers on a Mari Lwyd (a horse's skull on a pole, with a sheet hanging off the back and decorated with ribbons and some fake ears). It looks horrifying. Around the edges of the Mari Lwyd are some poinsettias, a rather scrawny evergreen tree in the background with some festive balls hanging from the branches and a star on top, a wreath, and some candles.
In the lower right of the design, below the skull's open mouth, it says, "Merry Crisis" in a cursive font.
This holiday season instead of lining the pockets of billionaires by buying gifts on Amazon "because it's convenient", support small businesses, artisans and artists near you. Many of them are struggling in this challenging economy to keep their doors open. YOU can help.
Can you spot my stickers? Shout out to Big Whale Consignment in Seattle (10001 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133)! My stickers and prints are there, so if you're in Seattle, go check them out!
Art enjoyers! 🖼️ It's only a month til Colony of Artists is happening in Edinburgh (Sat 20 / Sun 21 September) celebrating 20 years with over 100 artists!
Just had the loveliest experience while getting my watch strap resized at Silver Phoenix in Bray. They’re a tiny, independent two-person jewellers – Jolita and Martin – and they took such care (Martin resized it three times and did a micro-adjustment and then undid it until we found the perfect fit).
In a world of faceless corporations you forget sometimes how lovely people can be.
So if you’re looking for jewellery, a watch, wallet or pen (or repairs/sizing/etc.), give them a shout and support a tiny local business that’s been going for five years now.
Independent book store @prismaticpages published an end of year round up of their finances. 💸
TLDR: Support your local book store 📚
"It's pretty clear where the money comes from - we mostly sell books, both used and new, and a few other items like notebooks, stickers, totes, etc. But where does the money go?"
This year Apple has released a special edition 8’ tall iPad. No one knows why but they're flying off the shelves. Probably those people who bought the 12' skeletons.
Don't worry, there's enough monster iPads to go around. Imagine reading on that thing!
Anyhow. Happy Day before thanksgiving AKA Wednesday.

A snowy scene of a Christmas village looking place. There’s a massive iPad sitting in the middle of town. On the iPad’s screen, the cover of ‘Any Job Will Do’
An iPad and a coffee cup on a wooden table. The iPad is showing the cover for ‘The Adventures of Wil Calder’. Lots of spaceships fighting over. A blue world with a purple moon. The coffee is black, like the deepest abyss.
