Mastodon users, have you customised your notifications yet? There are many options for adjusting what you get notified about and how it happens.

If you're on the website interface or the official app go to 🔔 Notifications and click on the icon in the top right corner to see notification options. (Third party apps have various interfaces.)

Website users should scroll the notifications option menu to see everything because it is huge!

community, how do you get notifications about your projects?

I'm setting up a couple of to back things up and notify me about events on my , but I've hit some roadblocks. Here's my situation:

  • I know is one option, but I'm not set up for it yet. My domain is on porkbun.com, but its nameservers point to vultr.com, where my site is hosted. The Vultr server is managed by a friend, so I don't have access to add for platforms like . I've asked him to add the records but am waiting on that.

  • I've been using a webhook, but I've run into issues with rate limiting when scripts send too many messages. Long messages also cause errors.

Now, I'm exploring other ways to send notifications. Does anyone have suggestions for reliable methods or tools that work well in self-hosted setups?

If you want to hide the current deluge of Mastodon spam, either create a filter for krsw-wiki.org in the Mastodon admin interface and/or, if you’re using Mona, mute the keyword.

Screenshot of the Mastodon admin interface on mobile, showing the Filters section with a filter set called Spam with krsw-wiki.org listed as one of the two keywords.

Of course, it would be nicer if the Mastodon interface actually hid filtered notifications instead of doing whatever the fuck this is.

I just received a Filtered Notification in . I looked in the desktop browser Advanced layout and saw it, and clicked the speaker-with-slash-thru-it icon to presumably stop silencing / filtering the notification, as it seems relevant, not spam. (Perhaps I should have clicked the checkmark.)

Now I can't find that user's post. Where would it be? It seems not to be in my All or Mentions timeline.
