A once-grand Portuguese mansion, at the heart of a large wine-making estate. Now it stands in ruins, as it is being reclaimed by nature year-after-year.

Fallen Superpowers - military locations and rusting relics

Empires and superpowers rise and fall in a cycle as old as civilisation itself. When governments and military powers disband, they leave a wealth of ruins and rusting hardware behind. Old army bases and fortresses hidden in dark forests. Redundant planes and tanks lay forgotten. The echoes of the past can be felt in the atmosphere of these places.

🚸 Schools out, forever! A collection of abandoned classrooms from around the world - Part 1

When schools close down, these spaces are often left seemingly frozen in time. When the last person leaves, they lock the door and these places fall silent, waiting in limbo for years or decades in some cases.

These images represent various classrooms found during my travels; Japan, USA, Poland & Belgium.

An abandoned classroom features peeling paint, rows of teal desks with wooden tops, and two long chalkboards. The floor is covered in debris, hinting at disuse

Spaceship Ropeway is an abandoned aerial tramway station, perched high on a valley wall above a river. Somewhere in Japan.

Built in the 1960s, it once carried visitors 730 metres across the gorge to a nearby theme park. The park closed around 2000, and the ropeway shut with it.

One rounded gondola remains in the upper station, a one-tonne cabin from the 1980s named Silver, painted green with red trim.

🌴🏵️ Greenhouse Rosa, Italy. A disused and overgrown glasshouse in an Italian spa town, now slowly disappearing into the surrounding vegetation.

The structure likely dates to around 1910, possibly brought from a German fair or designed during a period of local spa expansion. The central section is the tallest, with polychrome glass in green, yellow and purple.

An abandoned greenhouse overtaken by nature. Vines climb the glass walls and the ground is covered in leaves

This weekend I will be sharing photos from one of my favourite abandoned locations - a huge abandoned hospital in England. Let's start with the gorgeous tiled entrance hall!

🏥 North Staffordshire Hospital, Stoke-On-Trent,

Sadly, the site was demolished a few years ago (everything apart from this entrance hall, saved from the wrecking ball as it is listed!)

just hicupped while processing and I'm SO keeping this. Looks good in the HDR.
(no front towards devs, I love the program, it runs faultlessly 99,99% of the time).

It's a photo of a broken window in a run-down room. Through it, a barren landscape is visible. Reddish and pink stripes emphasis the lower half of the frame where a grafitti reading "invertiert" was placed center frame below the window
Converted to greyshades it looks like a development fault or the what end of the roll pics used to look like in film cameras

.
Silent contemporary witnesses can be found again and again in the landscape. There are buildings, paths, trees, objects, bushes and traces to discover. Most of them do not want to be found together. They merge with the landscape in different ways. Some dissolve. However, individual clues can be found while roaming the countryside and collecting. The first suspected connections awaken human curiosity and the search for one’s own origins. After further explorations in the landscape and in the books, the witnesses begin to speak. They are stories of days gone by, forgotten fates. Small and large novellas written by everyday life a short or long time ago. They make us look dreamily into the past or recoil in horror.
