🇵🇸 I'm co-organizing a charity film screening of Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk by Sepideh Farsi, this Monday at 14:00 at the University of Antwerp (Rodestraat 14, Room R.201).
After the screening, we offer a drink and Palestinian snacks, made by the Palestinian chef Nour Elnono.
❝ When the world is silent as children are killed, starved and displaced, that silence is complicity. Every child who dies waiting to be saved represents a failure of humanity. ❞
Prof Michael E Mann quote-replying to a post by Melania Trump.
Trump's post has a photo of her in front of a cinema screen with "MELANIA" projected on it. She's standing in front of that at a podium, in a room with a crystal chandelier hanging down the center of the image. Towards the foreground we see (the backs of) rows of white-backed chairs occupied by people in evening wear.
The lights are turned down for the start of the documentary.

A Historic Moment

Mann's reply (quotation marks are his): "Even if they showed this on a plane, people would still walk out."
Sad that this was made after Lady Jaye was dead. It would have been more interesting with their participation. As it is, this is more like “The Ballad of Genesis (With a Focus on Lady Jaye)”.
(Warning: If, like me, you get motion sickness from unsteady camera, this has a lot of handheld stuff in it.)
As a snowstorm hit the U.S. and Minneapolis was shaken by the shooting of Alex Pretti by ICE, the White House held a party to celebrate the release of the "Melania" documentary. @ reports on the VIP guests that attended (Apple CEO Tim Cook, Mike Tyson, Queen Rania of Jordan, self-help guru Tony Robbins) and how critics responded to news of the private event.
“Jackson Five in Africa” est un documentaire (50 mn environ), qui montre le premier voyage des Jackson Five (ou 5 ?), dont Michael, alors agé de 16 ans, en Afrique, et leur arrivée à Dakar au Sénégal du 1er au 3 février 1974.

Man, #TuraSatana is legendary. Directed by John Waters and narrated by Margaret Cho, this #documentary does a wonderful job capturing Satana’s fierceness, empowered sexuality and innovation as an Asian American B-movie film star and #feminist icon. If you haven’t already seen it, I don’t want to spoil what made her such a badass. Let’s just say she took justice into her own hands, transforming herself from victim to victor. You can watch “Tura” for free on Hoopla. #movies#FreeMovies
The image is a movie poster for "Tura!" featuring Tura Satana in her trademark skin-tight black outfit posing confidently in a desert setting. Her hair is long and black with short bangs, she has dark penciled eye brows and eyeliner, and lots of exposed cleavage. The background is a bold red, with text highlighting the film's creators, including John Waters and Dita Von Teese with Margaret Cho credited as the narrator.
Wildlife documentary film crews aren't supposed to intervene, whatever they see. @ Wildlife magazine recalls when the team from BBC's Dynasties (2018) disregarded that.
Bamanya is responsible for building Africa’s first DIY modular synthesizer, a huge wall of home-made modules and FX units that he dubbed, fittingly, The Afrorack.
His reason for embarking on this difficult project was simple: as he began to investigate the world of modular synthesizers, he realized it would be difficult to acquire the technology […]
In the midst of a global uprising against police brutality and systemic racism, No Visible Trauma examines a deeply troubled police department and reveals the devastating consequences of unchecked police brutality. Despite its relatively low crime rates, recent years have seen the Calgary Police Service shoot and kill more people than officers in any other Canadian city, and more than either the New York or Chicago police departments in 2018. Five years in the making, the film unravels the intertwined stories of three individuals who were the victims of extreme violence at the hands of police officers. From the kidnapping and beating of a young immigrant from Ghana, to the fatal shooting of an unarmed man during a “wellness check”, the film exposes a criminal justice system that fails to hold police officers accountable for their actions.

This doc focuses on CalgaryPD but the issues raised are happening across AB, in BC, Mantitoba, Ontario & many more places across Canada. Canadian cops keep getting away with crimes & human rights abuses, daily, in Canada. Systemic racism is still a major problem across the country - no matter how much our governments try to whitewash their PR.
“Status: Venezuelan” tells the story of one family in Florida trying to stay together — and stay in the U.S. legally — as they navigate the shifting immigration landscape under the Trump administration’s policies.
