"In 'What Will Happen Next', you will see the world through young Emma Elicia's eyes, for all its kindness and cruelty. This is a story that acknowledges the misfortunes of life and defies them, calls the reader to the closeness of love, and soothes the soul's loneliness. You will be saddened, surprised, and in the end, uplifted." - Justin Smith, Linguist and Short Story Author
A successful, fully conscious transfer. This Omega was discovered in a collapsed section of the NW territory Vancity center. This Omega pod had been part of the biomech sector production group at the latter part of the Conflict.
The latest version of "Spirit of the Latch" is up at itch.io to play for free (or support as you'd like).
Edmund goes looking for "the corpsetalker" and ends talking with a corpse himself. A revival and some flirting later, they're off to find somebody with answers about Edmund's supernatural job site.
'Spirit of the Latch' promo image showing the tall character Edmund (in his hat!) and the redheaded Ash. They are dressed in brown coats with white shirts, have mustaches, and are not exactly looking straight. The title text is a bright pink with a slight purple tint.
"The Far-cry of Archaic Dust" by Antoinette Van Sluytman is a beautiful, afrocosmic story of a far future where tales of walking among the dust quicken the imagination.
It's an experience far better read than described.
"You Are in the Heart of the Corn Maze" is today's Editor Pick at Gavagai! Check it out if you like quiet horror flash fiction, autumnal pumpkin patches, growing dread and unease, or story structures that play with 1st/2nd person. https://www.gavagai.com/posts/465
If you follow me, you have a sense of humour. If you're reading this, you're a reader. I’ve put this story online, free, gratis and for nothing, it's a twelve minute read. If you like it, maybe you’ll be curious enough to risk 99p for one of my short story collections. Maybe you’ll be smart enough to save some money by buying a compilation. Maybe you’ll be brave enough to buy my novel. Whatever happens, I hope you enjoy ‘Vincent'. http://aarondavid.co.uk/Vincent.html#freeread#shortstory#funny#pleaseboost
The Biggest Little Bill - part tech satire, part civic noir - begins today!
Bill Hoppern is a Reno-area planner who just wanted to see his community grow. Everything was going fine until he finds himself up against a data-center boom, a wall of doublespeak, and his own middle age.
One for those bringing a conscience and a clipboard to the fight.
They were they ones who wanted to survive. They were the techs who created the wetware tech that dominated the frontlines of the war. It was obvious no one was going to survive. They worked in distributed cells, against the orders of the State. Siphoning tech and time in a doubleplus last chance effort to survive.
Promotional image for the book Pu'ukani's Song by Hannah Steenbock.
On a blue-turquoise gradient as background, we see the cover of the book, a gray banner and some light gray text.
The banner on top reads: What if whales had magic?
The cover is very colorful and shows a whale's fluke in the sea, with a tiny island in the far background. The title and the author's name are in bright yellow.
The light gray text reads:
A whale with the magic of song.
A season of trouble.
A new beginning.
Great timing lol. If I'd realized this was coming I'd have posted this today instead!
I have a new short story on my site (too weird? or maybe too humorous for the mags) called Saltwater Billionaire. I'm also proud of how the cover art came out too! mostly cuz I managed to stop touching it while it was looking good lol.
About the biodiversity crisis, rich bastards, and mutually assured destruction.
