Long Distance doesn’t know what it is supposed to be. The best I can come up for describing this movie is that it is a sci-fi romantic survival horror comedy. It is good at none of those genres.
A space vessel fully of miners and support staff named Borealis is four years into flying to the other side of the galaxy, but because the corporation that is running the ship is cheap, they took ma shortcut through an asteroid belt. Predictably an asteroid hits the ship and it goes down on an alien planet. A miner named Andy Ramirez (Anthony Ramos) is one of a few survivors. He has to survive while trying to figure out how to get to another survivor, Naomi Calloway (Naomi Scott).
The dialogue is so vapid and shallow. Naomi Scott’s character is annoying and constantly talking. She sounds like she’s phoning her performance home — though at some points she’s overacting so much that it is distracting.
There is some action, it’s rather generic yet somewhat exciting. There are aliens and they are generic yet somewhat scary. There are characters and they are generic but not very interesting.
I almost stopped watching at the 30 minute mark, but I suffer so others don’t have to. The rest of the movie was forgettable.
The one good thing I can say about the movie is that the special effects and CGI are actually well done.
My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997) is my favorite Julia Robert’s movie. She is insane in this movie and I love it. Rupert Everett steals every scene he’s in.
I watched this movie in theaters when it was released and wrote a review back then. The only thing that has changed since then is my appreciation of James Newton Howard’s score. It has grown on me and I’ve come to really enjoy it.

DELIGHTFULLY WITTY, THOUGHTFUL, and beautifully observed romantic comedy of manners combines a great (and twisty!) plot, some sharp satire of Hollywood in the age of social media, lovely family moments, and some spicy, steamy scenes. A MINUS
#JustFinished The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love by India Holton
Lighthearted palate cleanser. Just what I needed.
Take ornithology, cut-throat competition, a PR push, and mix liberally. Add in a romance where the characters actually like each other for something beyond the chemistry, et voilà! Madcap fun!
Cover for "Dungeons and Drama" by Kristy Boyce, showing a blonde young woman with a lute and a bespectacled young brunette man with a nerdy black t-shirt and some dice in his hand, looking at each other.

#bookreview of Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date by Ashley Herring Blake.
My rating: 4.5 ⭐️
Synopsis:
Iris Kelly has given up on dating after experiencing a few awful relationships. Ironically, she’s a new romance author working on her second novel, but has hit a road block because she has run out of ideas to write. She goes out to find a hook up (as is her usual routine) and goes home with a pretty girl just to end having the worst one night stand in her life.
Stevie Scott is a young, lesbian thespian (haha @ the rhyme) who just got out of a six-year long-term relationship six months ago. She has Generalized Anxiety Disorder and goes to the queer club with her non-binary friend to try and face her fear of talking to people so that she can learn to function without her ex. She meets a gorgeous red head, takes her home, and then vomits on her when she becomes too anxious and nervous.
