There were a few reasons I only tried GrapheneOS now. The main issue was purchasing a device - I didn't want to pay much if I didn't like Graphene, but I'm only interested in Pixels for GrapheneOS. I found #BackMarket is the best option for refurbished phones, especially since they deliver to Greece and other small EU countries, and deliver just within 3 days! As for eBay, I have found it is problematic.
@GrapheneOS Thank you for your clarifications too:)
I was never exploring security of /e/ and #iodéOS, just met few average users of these "mobile operating systems based on the #AOSP" at #FrOSCon (in Bonn) and had very short talks with them about UI etc.
It was a big weekend for the Mastodon team at #FrOSCon in Germany.
If you're curious what we've been working on and what's coming up, as well as updates across the #Fediverse more broadly,
@dave provided an update in his talk, "Taking a Fresh Look at the Fediverse".
Fun fact: David was also one of the founding organisers of FrOSCon!
Originally, the talk was targeted at LinuxMobile developers. Yet I was very pleased that so many other people showed up. As it turned out, most of them don't use LinuxMobile on their daily driver smartphone today - and this is exactly what we need to change!
It's almost weird how doing a keynote and talking to friends at a conference a whole day can totally exhaust me.
I did however get so many thanks and so much expressed appreciation for my talk that it risks making me all spoiled. My heart is going to stay warm for a long time after that lovefest. 💚

Digital Independence in your pocket?
@z3ntu talks about why the smartphone duopoly of Apple/Google is bad, and the problems of Android and why we need a truly open source alternative. #froscon
A slide pointing out problems with the duopoly of mobile OSes:
• Google and Apple control the whole market
• Privacy: required to bundle privacy-invasive apps
• Independence: Google controls all of Android, development is done top-down
• Proprietary code: no smartphone can work without, default Board Support Package (BSP) contains lots of it
• While manufacturer has some proprietary source code, many parts are also prebuilt
• Software updates: bound by Google to approve every software update
