The black and white image shows the rooftops and walls of low market buildings with sharp shadows falling across them. A dove is perched on the edge of a roof in the upper left, while vents, gutters, and an awning create a mix of geometric lines against a partly cloudy sky.
A full day of meetings, then a quick detour on the way home to take a couple of shots of trees. Always a gamble shooting Polaroid in low light — but these came out better than expected.
The black and white image shows a large classical fountain sculpture with reclining figures pouring water, towering above people posing past at its base, with ornate historic buildings and statues visible in the background.
After months of building and refining, Frames for iPhone is finally reaching a new level of maturity and stability. Seeing it in action makes me proud of what’s been accomplished.
Next up: bringing the same thoughtful experience to Android. Excited to tackle this next chapter!
A black-and-white photograph captures a dense forest shrouded in thick mist. Tall, leafless trees stand like vertical brushstrokes, their trunks fading into the foggy background. The lower third of the image is dominated by an intensified, almost painterly veil of mist—created using translucent foil—blurring the forest floor into abstraction. The scene feels surreal and timeless, as if the trees are dissolving into a dream. The grain of the film adds texture, enhancing the ethereal, contemplative mood. Light filters softly through the mist, creating a delicate interplay of shadows and highlights.
Curved glass-and-metal facade with a grid of window panels, viewed from above, overlooking an interior courtyard filled with green plants and a gravel path.
A black and white photograph shows a thin branch with several dried, withered leaves still clinging to it. Water droplets are visible on both the branch and leaves, catching the light. The leaves appear delicate and translucent, their skeletal structure visible. The branch extends diagonally across the frame from left to right. The background is completely out of focus, creating a soft, dreamy bokeh with blurred shapes and light tones. The shallow depth of field emphasizes the fragile details of the dying leaves and the moisture on the branch. The overall mood is melancholic and contemplative, capturing the transition between seasons with the grainy texture of film adding to the atmospheric quality.
A color photograph shows a minimalist still life composition on a wooden surface. A decorative ceramic jug with a grape motif in red and brown tones sits on the left, featuring a handle and a distinctive fluted neck. Next to it stands a smaller, simple terracotta-colored cup. Both objects rest on a light wooden table or shelf against a soft, out-of-focus background with warm, neutral tones. A green curtain or fabric is visible on the left edge, and white fabric or wall appears in the background. The natural window light creates soft shadows and a warm, contemplative atmosphere. The composition is balanced and peaceful, evoking a sense of quiet domesticity and timelessness.
For a while now, I've been meaning to take one of my film cameras on a U-Bahn ride around #Berlin to capture the unique features of the stations. And this is one of the pictures I took the first time I tested out this idea.
This photo was taken in early February 2024 when I wanted to see what it could look like using a tripod, a long-expired Kodak Portra 100TL, and a Mamiya C330.
I'm glad that I decided to go to Heidelberger Platz for a few shots since that is one of my favorite stations in town. Too bad I wasn't very knowledgeable about what I was doing, and most of the images are terrible. This one is the only one that worked out.
Interior view of a Berlin subway station, focusing on an arched entryway. A person blurred from movement walks down a long, well-lit hallway. The tiled ceiling is adorned with a large, glass-paneled dome, and the walls are decorated with decorative tiling and mosaics. Signs and markings are visible along the walls. A signpost reading “Hb A1” is prominent in the foreground.
A color photograph shows a person sitting alone in a dark room, reading a book with a small clip-on reading lamp attached to it. The person wears glasses and a light-colored shirt, their face illuminated by the warm glow of the lamp while the rest of the room remains in deep shadow. A black and white cat sits beside them, also partially lit by the reading light. The scene is enveloped in darkness with hints of furniture and a textured wall barely visible in the background. The contrast between the focused light from the book lamp and the surrounding darkness creates an intimate, quiet atmosphere. The warm tones of the light stand out against the cool, dark greens and blacks of the shadowy room.
It's always a bit awkward to carry around a big camera like the Mamiya RZ67, but I love doing it.
But taking this picture was even more awkward since I almost laid down on the ground just to point the camera up and find a way to focus. At least, it worked out.
Low-angle, black and white photograph of modern buildings converging towards a patch of cloudy sky. The buildings' facades are geometrically patterned with rectangular windows recessed within a grid of concrete blocks, creating a repeating pattern that leads the eye upward. The perspective offers a dramatic view, emphasizing the height and symmetry of the structures.
As I have been fully focused on the book, I’ve let photography fade a little into the background, but it was my first great love and I can’t wait to get back to it.
Here’s is a 35mm film image that captures some of the magic in the Tomnah’a polytunnels.
A 35mm film photograph of pale pink roses in bloom, growing in neat rows in a garden. The rose bushes are dense with flowers and buds, their dark green leaves contrasting with the soft pink petals. Behind them, tall, airy plants with delicate yellow-green seed heads and slender stems rise against a hazy blue sky. Thin garden wires and posts are visible, giving the scene a cultivated but gentle, almost dreamlike quality typical of film photography.
The black and white image shows a large tent-like structure with several peaked roofs set in an open area between two tall trees, while a lone person training in the foreground and a cityscape rises in the background under a cloudy sky.
A narrow cobblestone street winds through the picturesque white-washed village of Benelauría, flanked by charming houses and lush greenery, set against a backdrop of rolling hills. The scene is captured in black and white, highlighting the timeless beauty of the architecture.
I would like to hear about other people's experiences with film cameras and airports.
In a few months, I have to travel for a few days, and I would like to take my film camera with me, but I only hear negative comments about how X-rays can affect it, and that it is best to carry the rolls in a lead bag like the Domke FilmGuard (which are not cheap).
@mangel I've been through quite a few North American airports with film. I've never had a refusal from inspectors to hand check it. Put it in a clear plastic bag they can see through and easily open.
The lead bag these days may set off some red flags. Generally not recommended.
