How Premium Rollbacks Work
Important Requirement: Premium asset archives are created by both free and pro versions when updates occur. WP Rollback (free or pro) must be installed before an update happens to capture the previous version.
The Process:
- Install WP Rollback: Install either free or Pro version before updates occur
- Archives Created Automatically: When you update a premium plugin or theme through WordPress, WP Rollback automatically preserves the current version before the update (both free and pro do this)
- Pro Provides UI Access: With Pro activated, you'll see rollback options in the UI for premium assets. Free users can access archives via SFTP at
wp-content/uploads/wp-rollback/
How It Works: Both free and pro versions integrate seamlessly with WordPress's built-in update system. The key difference is that Pro provides a user interface to view, manage, and rollback to archived versions. No additional configuration is required - it automatically works with any premium plugin or theme that updates through WordPress.
Why This Matters: WP Rollback can only be used as an "escape hatch" if it was already installed before the problematic update occurred. If you're experiencing issues from a recent update and didn't have WP Rollback installed beforehand, you'll need to restore from a backup or manually downgrade. This is why it's important to install WP Rollback proactively - it's your safety net for future updates.
