We still have no idea how #bluesky will eventually monetize, but it's a company running on VC that it will eventually have to provide a return for.The typical response to fedi is that it's fine but I wish it had this or that, and especially that it needs more people or certain accounts. What doesn't get factored in is the most likely outcome for these services, especially if they win. This really matters when you're building on them.Be future proof. #SocialWeb

From the perspective of the fedi, both #bluesky and #threads are like HUGE FEDI SERVERS. this makes disconnecting from them tough because you're giving up the connection (imperfect as it is) to a lot of people. I don't recommend it.But their size also makes moderation difficult. if they had lots of users who harassed us here, moderating all that would be impossible and I would recommend disconnecting.It's all just constant reminders of why real decentralization matters.

@[email protected] it's something I've been thinking about addressing as well. Theoretically one could display a quote above the post, but I wouldn't want it to be confused with a quote post, which is a different beast (and one not present in forums) altogether.

@julian They are following the money I guess though it is, in my opinion a political move and comes from a very post truth political mindset. Though I was never a fan of Nick Clegg I now see why he left Meta last week.A line was crossed. In the meantime disinformation gets to flourish and vulnerable communities will be less safe on those platforms.

As of today, #Threads and #Bluesky interoperate. You can follow accounts on either platform from the other (by the magic of #ActivityPub and @fed.brid.gy)While there are still rough edges, tThis is a major milestone for the interoperable open social web.

@fromjason Maybe they should also mention that mastodon.social posts like yours are also indexed by Google. For example, a Google search:site:mastodon.social "fromjason.xyz"(double-quotes are important) pulls up pages of search hits.
