@NiwlCraft This is only tangentially related but the last time I changed android phones I got extremely PISSED about the bouncy rubberband effects it has started doing when switching windows or hitting the top and bottom of the scroll bar. I have been using my phones with the "disable all desktop animations" accessibility feature checked for years. I don't even know what modern android animations look like.So: overcomplicated and unnecessary UI animation hater solidarity

In doing research for our app, what are some apps out there that handle #accessibility really well, in your experience? Not in a token, "look we did it" way. This is a broad question, so it can be anything from low vision accessibility all the way to simple, clear language that makes it accessible for mixed (technical) literacy people. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Question for those who are familiar with Alternative Text for the blind and visually impaired:When creating Alternative Text for an image of an informational sign such as for a hiking trail, how verbose should it be?Be My Eyes does a good job with just images and/or a small amount of text, but for informational signs the text can be quite long. Hey everyone! Over the last few months I've been working on a lot of accessibility focused projects to do with Wayland, because a lot of the gaps just weren't getting filled. I've created an accessible waybar alternative, notification daemon, clipboard history manager, accessibility first greeter for greetd, and a lot more. #Accessibility -related PSA for users of InDesign. Check Edit -> Preferences. There may be a "Generative AI..." option in that resulting submenu (see Note). You have to opt-out of Adobe using generative AI to guess at alt-text (and it puts a "Generated with AI" tag). Note: seems to be specific to 21.2 AND depends on your subscription, especially if you have the all-apps subscription, a student / university subscription, etc. #UX #adobe

This week I learned, from a blind acquaintance here, that when we write in ALL CAPS in alt text, their screenreader reads it all out, *one letter at a time*. I just published a new post on my Substack. If you’re a blind and disabled student, this one may hit close to home. I wrote about the quiet panic that comes with syllabi and textbooks and the very real difference between “accessible eventually” and “accessible now." This isn’t a jab at professors or disability services. It’s about how systems are set up, why timing matters, and why tools like OpenStax can completely change a semester by removing the wait.
