Dungeons & Dragons Drinks

This is a really cool video and makes me want to get a keg and make tavern punch and things like that for my sessions. I've found a nice keg here that I might pick up at some point.

Upcoming Projects

Howdy folks,

Decided to give a little update on upcoming projects I'm working on.

Cade's Big Book O' Booze - other than delivery, I'm done with Cade's. We're waiting on one piece of art that we should have in the next day or so. Then we'll upload the pdf and get it out to backers. The file will be sent to the printer this weekend and zines should be in backers' hands by the end of September (the schedule delivery month).

3 Unnamed Bloat Games Projects - The Lone Bards are writing writing a book for Bloat Games and I'm helping with two other Bloat Games releases.

Vigilante Files: The Eternal Damned - This short pdf will be a serial numbers filed off Evil Dead supplement for Vigilante City. Will include details about the Eternal Damned and their master, the Abomination. It will also include new spells that anyone can cast and a gallery of Evil Dead/Army of Darkness inspired foes.

In Dark Shadows: Drunken Demons - This currently untitled Dark Streets & Darker Secrets scenario will involve the seeking out a pair of drunken demons who kind of like the world the way it is and don't want it to end.

Songs of the Glowhio - My second attempt at making an MCC/DCC zine, this Mutant Crawl Classics zine will be focused on the land of Glowhio and will be chocked full of Ohio-inspired content. I'd like to have the first issue submitted and approved by Goodman Games before Con on the Cob. I'll be running a Glowhio funnel there.

Final Four Hours!

Cade's Big Book 'o Booze is in its final four hours. The project will fund, but Cade might need some money for a taxi, so if you haven't backed it, you should still get in on the project.

I have a big announcement later today that will be posted when the project ends. Until then, spread the word and thank you!

The Way of the Drunken Boxer

Xanathar's Guide to Everything has a drunken master fighting style, but I don't care for it. It doesn't actually include drinking in it's abilities. I want to emulate Jackie Chan's classic, Legend of the Drunken Master, so I've decided to include a new monk style in Cade's Big Book 'o Booze. Check out Josh's  awesome artwork for it.

The official archetype is called "Way of the Drunken Master" so I'm calling ours "Way of the Drunken Boxer."

Funding Goal Reached!

Hope y'all aren't getting tired of me talking about the Kickstarter. Last night we passed our funding goal. There are 8 days left and things could happen, but I really don't see anything stopping this project from coming to fruition. Thank you for your support and for spreading the word. Please, keep it up.

This is Josh's illustration for one of the creatures appearing in the zine, the keg golem. If you'd like to use it in your game today, I've whipped up a stat preview pdf. Download it here.

Cade's Rules For Drinking

Cade's Big Book 'o Booze is 70% funded and has 10 days left. I have a gut feeling that we're going to fund, but for that to happen, I'm going to need  your help to get it over the finish line. Please share with your gaming friends and groups.

These are the rules for drinking that are the foundation of the zine. It's a combination of the D&D Next Intoxicated rules and the ones I came up with for the A-Z challenge a few years ago.

New Alcohol Rules

Mead, wine, and common ales are considered weak. The Constitution saving throw DC to avoid gaining the Intoxicated condition after a mug of these drinks is 10.

Stout ales, whisky, and other spirits are considered medium. The Constitution saving throw DC to avoid gaining the Intoxicated condition after a mug of these drinks is 15.

Dwarven stout, Elven absinthe, and other extremely intoxicating fantasy brews are considered strong. The Constitution saving throw DC to avoid gaining the Intoxicated condition after a mug of these drinks is 20.

Intoxicated Condition
  • You are Poisoned.
  • To cast a spell, you must succeed on a DC concentration check. If you fail the spell slot is not spent.
  • You have advantage on fear-based saving throws.
  • You reduce all damage you take by 1d4 points.
  • If you fail two more drinking saving throws while Intoxicated you gain the Unconscious condition.
  • If this condition was caused by a weak drink, it can be removed with a short rest. If it was caused by a medium drink it can be removed by a short rest and the expenditure of a hit die or a long rest. If it was caused by a strong drink it takes a long rest to remove the condition.

Romance and Booze

Is there a better combination than love and alcohol? The answer is probably yes, but I still think they're a wonderful pairing. You can celebrate this magical couple by backing two really cool 5th edition zines, Love's Labour's Liberated and Cade's Big Book 'o Booze.

Love's Labour's Lost is currently 42% funded. It has sixteen days left. I'm really hoping folks show the project more love (pun intended). I'm really curious to see what the gents are going to give us with the Cavalier of Love fighter archetype. New magic items and quest ideas are always helpful too. Plus who doesn't want a sandbox low level adventure?

Cade's Big Book 'o Booze is currently 60% funded. It has twenty-two days left. I really want to bring this one to life and print. My contributors and I have been hard at work. As soon as I finish writing my stretch goal for Never Going Home  (which is due next week), I will finish writing/revising content and start layout.

So again, please considering backing these projects.

Quick Kickstarter Update - 52% Funded

I'm happy to share though it's been live for less than a week, Cade's Big Book o' Booze is just a little over half way funded! The project has 24 days to go and at this pace we'll be funded in no time. In celebration for reaching this milestone, why don't you take some time today to toss back a couple of cold ones like Stone Cold Battlehammer here. Can I get a Hell yeah?

Cade's Big Book o' Booze Now On Kickstarter!

My first Kickstarter, Cade's Big Book o' Booze, just went live. It’s a collection of new alcohol related material for D&D 5e. As a part of Kickstarters Zine Quest the book will be black and white, 5.5” x 8.5”, saddle-stitched. I’m estimating it will be around 36 pages.  Here’s some of the content:

  • The "Intoxicated" condition and what it entails
  • New alcohols for your fantasy game to add some flavor (pun-intended) to your campaigns
  • New equipment and weapons, including the formidable dwarven battle mug
  • Cade's Bar Guide: a list of materials/ingredients found in the game world and how to use them to make the ultimate cocktails
  • New magic: spells and magic items
  • New monsters to face, including the b'ooze and the dreaded bad beer elemental
  • NPC stats for Cade Ashworthy, the titular planehopping halfling

I'm working with Josh Beckelhimer and David Coppoletti on this one. Check out the project and please consider backing.

Let's Get Wasted!

Some of you folks might remember Cade Ashworthy. Well the halfing Sensate, is making a comeback. Lured in by all of the cool stuff being released by creators for Kickstarter's ZineQuest, I'm going to be launching my first Kickstarter project next week. Cade is going to be a part of that project. The zine will use 5th edition D&D rules and include drinking rules, new booze, alcohol related equipment and items, magic libations, and new brew-centric monsters. Some of this content will be revised from my 2016 A-Z blog posts but much of it will be new. I've recruited Josh Beckelhimer of  JB Publishing and David Marcus Coppoletti to the project. Both are phenomenal artists, create great rpg content, and are just all around cool gents. We are making this our project and have been discussing this all day.

I will post more about the project when it launches. Until this enjoy this lovely song about booze.

Blogging from A to Z April Challenge Reflection

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. I feel like I accomplished a lot. I created a new alcohol house rule (that some of my friends are adopting too), a new npc (that I plan on using, as does my friend, +David Coppoletti), a really fun monster, and 20+ alcohol's (including 15+ magical varieties), 5+ magical drinking vessels, and a new weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if Cade Ashworthy makes some future appearances.

Hope you had as much fun reading them as I did typing them.

Oh and I've bought several rounds, so next time drinks are on you.

Z is for Zombrew

Zombie Beer Girl Logo by Jay-Allen-Hansen
"Yeah it tastes great, but it's rotgut for sure. I don't know who the insidious s.o.b. was that created it, but I wish someone could wipe it out of existence."
-Cade Ashworthy

Zombrew
Potion, common, cursed

Zombrew is the generic term for a malicious alcohol created to make undead servitors. A medium strength alcohol (DC 15 constitution saving throw to avoid intoxication). A true rotgut, the necrotic energy in the ale slowly rots drinkers from the inside. In addition, unless drank at least once a day, the ale has a chance to transform one into a zombie. This cursed drink is typically used by evil clerics, necromancers, and unscrupulous nobles.

Curse:  You are cursed. Every day that you don't drink at least a mug of the brew, you must make a DC 10 constitution saving throw. If you miss this saving throw for three consecutive days or fails the saving throw by more than 10, you die and are immediately re-animated as a zombie.

Y is for Yellow Wine

"Have you drank the yellow wine?"
-Cade Ashworthy

Yellow Wine
Potion, rare, cursed

This insidious wine was created by worshipers of Hastur, the King in Yellow. Popular among bohemians, artists, writers, and other creative types, the cursed wine makes one more susceptible to call of Hastur and fills the drinker with dreams of lost Carcosa. A medium strength alcohol, the Constitution saving throw DC to avoid getting drunk after a mug of this is 15.

Curse: You have disadvantage when making wisdom saving throws for spells cast by worshipers of Hastur.

X is for Xaositect's Delight

"I love Limbo. Some see it as a plane of pure chaos. I see it as a plane of pure fun. Yeah, it's dangerous, but those with strong wills can shape it. Also, without Limbo, we wouldn't have Xaosetic Delight. I made have had a hand it its creation."

-Cade Ashworthy

Xoasitect's Delight

Created from rare collaboration between two chaotic wizards (one a member of the Xaositect, the other the Society of Sensation). This brew is created from essence of Limbo. Every time you take a drink of Xaositect's Delight it changes to a different alcohol (use the chart below)

W is for White Lightning

"I know they call it white lightning, but this good 'ol boy took it literally. The stuff packs a kick... and I like it."
-Cade Ashworthy

White Lightning
Uncommon, potion

Created by Mad Mose of the Shudder Mountains, White Lightning is distilled corn alcohol combined with elemental essence. The strong (DC 20 constitution saving throw to avoid intoxication) whiskey has both offensive and defensive capabilities. Anyone drinking white lightning will feels a tingling sensation running through their bodies and has their hair stand on end. In addition, they gain resistance to lightning damage for one hour. In a pinch it can also be used as weapon. As an action, you can throw the vial up to 20 feet, shattering it on impact. Make a ranged attack against a target creature, treating the white lightning as an improvised weapon. White lightning does 2d6 lightning damage.

V is for Vampire Slayer

"I don't know what hunter came up with this one, but it's brilliant."
-Cade Ashworthy

Vampire Slayer
Potion, rare, cursed

This enchanted blood wine was created recently by a group of vampire hunters. Made from blood freely given by saints and celestials it is the bane of the undead. While it appears to be enchanted much like a traditional pale ale, Vampire Slayer is actually infused with positive energy and masked with enchantment magic. Any undead creature drinking vampire slayer must make a DC 20 constitution saving throw or take 6d6 radiant damage (half on a successful save).

Curse: Vampire Slayer looks, smells, and tastes like an especially delicious blood wine made from a rare blood type.

U is for Umbral Blot

"The shadar-kai are an odd lot. Their numbing existence in the Shadowfell has caused many of them to seek extreme experiences just to feel something. Take their favored brew, Umbral Blot, for example. The magically infused booze isn't for lightweights."

-Cade Ashworthy

Umbral Blot
Rare, potion

Umbral Blot is a strong alcohol made from various shadowfell mushrooms and laced with living shadowstuff. Characters under the affects of Umbral Blot tend to be reckless, gaining disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws. However, the shadowstuff also temporarily transforms their very being, making them more shadow-like. Drinkers gain advantage to stealth ability checks. A strong drink the Constitution saving throw DC to avoid intoxication from Umbral Blot is 20. The effects of Umbral Blot last until the drinker takes a long rest.
