Opt to Adopt - Mae West

Yes, we know she has been on here before, but we have an update....

Since we don't currently have adoptable kittens in the house, and the adoption center has been so busy that mom didn't want to take kittens from there, she decided to take Mae with her on Saturday to the Petco adoption weekend. Mae of course expressed her displeasure at going in the carrier, going in the car, and going in the crate. MOL

However, things are looking up for Mae. She is out and about at the adoption center - though she has claimed the large trash can that holds the litter as her personal space. She has slimmed down some - not quite so curvy. She is still a talker though.

And....she is a lover. OK- mom discovered that Mae doesn't like her so much....appears the girl is holding a grudge about something. But our friend Miss Emily said she can pick Mae up and carry her around like a baby. And Mae was flirting like mad with the staff and a couple of customers at the store. No adoption interest, but at least she was turning on the charm.

That being said, she was giving the two other cats at the store "the look" and growled a couple of times. But with slow introductions, we know she would be ok. A gentleman came in with a toy poodle and Mae lost her mind - full Halloween cat mode. Though a couple came in later with a puggle and she seemed fine. So either she was getting used to it, or poodles are scarier than puggles. Who knows??  :)

weekend report

Well, there was another hound in the Beetle....
This is Leonard and he was on his way from a boarding facility that helps out OBR to a foster home. He was rescued with his love Lily who went to her home on Saturday as well. But in her case it is hospice....they are both young, but the vet found several tumors in Lily and a nice family decided to take her in to give her as much comfort as possible in her last few months. Leonard however is super sweet and available for adoption - he needs to put on some weight and gain some comfidence, but otherwise is doing great.

Speaking of hounds, remember Nala that mom helped move? She was adopted by her foster mom (in less than an hour after arrival) and is now Clover living with another 6 year old bloodhound named Humphrey. She fits right in and is giving Humphrey a run for his money. :)

Mom took Stoli and Sangria to the Petco for an adoption event on Saturday. There was an open cage, so they didn't come back with her. It is a little quiet with just Daiquiri and Kahlua here now. Hopefully the kitts will get adopted quickly....

Adopt a Shelter Cat Month - Opt to Adopt

National Shelter Cat Month

How awesome!!!  As you all know, this is something we can all get behind. Besides Spud and Junior, we were all adopted from shelters (Spud was a rescue kitten and Junior was live trapped during TNR). Remember - so many animals lose their lives in shelter not due to their own faults but due to lack of adoptions. Adopt one - save two!!

Today we are showcasing three kittens that are available now at our local Petco store. They were fostered by our new friend Miss Alsyssa (the lady who took the little orange tabby boy that was born to EMC. He was named Rocky and has already been adopted).

You have already met Cora (the tuxedo) when she was here shortly before going up there with Cinco. Well, Cinco got a little snotty and so she came back here. Mom picked up Cora's siblings from the adoption center and they are all now together. Daisy is the white girl (with gold eyes - her hearing is fine) and Thomas is the gray tabby boy. They all get along great and are very sweet. Cora is more about finding way to get out of the cages, Daisy is a little shy but warms up quick and Thomas is just a lover. Their mom Sugar is white as well and was trapped during an effort to TNR. She is super friendly as well and gave birth to the kittens in the live trap. She is available too.

Thankful Thursday

Remember this guy:
Yep, that is Hobbes when he first got to our house.

Then he moved to the Petco store and was living with Impala (who had originally been fostered by Miss Beckie). And then they both caught the infamous snot from Oliver....but with everyone here and the holidays, Impala went back to Miss Beckie's house and Hobbes went to our friend Miss Karen. Both kittens were feeling better and went to another Petco store. That is a MUCH smaller store and the kittens were allowed out of their cage to run around the store and burn off some energy.

Well, a man came into the store and filled out an application for Impala. And when he came into the store on Saturday to finalize, she was out running around with Hobbes and they were found snuggled up together. The man didn't want to separate them, so he decided to adopt them both!!

He lives alone with his kids part time (2 teenagers) and no other animals. We bet these two keep him laughing.

So, today we are thankful for....adopters...and cat guys!!!

so after yesterday....

We have exciting news!!!

Chex went home last night.  :)  The Petco store will call and then fax the applications if mom is at work (otherwise she just picks them up). They faxed it over yesterday and she had enough time to check out the things she needs to check. Then she called the lady and they talked about the current animals in the house and about Chex. And as of 6pm last night.....our boy is in his new home. He will share it with 2 mom, a couple of older dogs and another male kitty about a year old (S says that Chex looks just like him....mom has visions of the second coming of the blues brothers).

Congrats big guy......
Oh....and mom put one of the Petco clerks to a challenge....see Christian suggested to one of his friends to adopt Maverick. Then he was the one to work with this couple on adopting Chex. So mom said his next challenge is to get Licorice adopted - and he will get a prize (mom isn't sure what prize he would get, but she will do something).

weekend update....

We want to let you know we will be hit and miss this week with the holiday. But we will be thinking about all of you and send you all love and health!

Mom took the girls to different Petco stores this weekend. Saffron and Rosemary went to our local store on Saturday. Mom spoke to someone who might be interested in one of the little girls and a couple of people about Milano.

Still no interest in Licorice, but she is obviously very comfy up at the store. :)

 Mom is very impressed with Milano....she has come out of her shell and is asking for attention and being very lovey up there.

Then Sunday mom took all three girls (including Amelia) to another local store. Amelia spent most of the time curled up in the bottom of the tower snoozing. Saff and Rosie weren't too sure about the whole thing but eventually figured out how to climb the cage and sit on the top shelf. Mom put the collar with the bells on Rosie and it was pretty adorable....and she didn't seem to mind at all. :)

Weekend review

When Basil and Amelia were spayed/neutered last week, mom brought them home and put them in the playpen to let them recover. Well, then it was game on....and the playpen took a beating. Yes - those walls are bending in due to a certain overload of kittens on top and Basil hanging on from the inside. MOL

We got some snow on Friday and Saffron spent some time staring out the window at that stuff falling from the sky.

Mom took the kittens to Petco for their national adoption weekend. No adoptions, but some donations and talk to lots of people. And Maverick got to meet Santa....

Basil and Amelia are now up there full time living with Maverick. He seemed pretty happy to have company again. Saturday morning, Amelia seemed less than amused by Mav but by end of the event on Sunday, they were all passed out. Saffron and Rosemary both figured out how to escape baby jail. They seemed to sulk some on Saturday....and Sunday wouldn't come out of the carrier at all.

Tiny Tuesday

Well it was an adoption weekend at Petco so mom decided to be there both days due to the fall season and trying to get some adoptions. We didn't have any adoptions, but mom talked to lots of people, got some donations and talked to potential adopters that might come back or go to our adoption center. Plus she said it was "old home" week as she got to talk to Cheerio's mom, the couple that adopted Cooper and Ashley, the lady (and her big dog) that adopted Jonny, and the couple that just adopted Luke - who said he came right out of the carrier and moved in like he has always been there. Plus on Sunday, the lady who adopted Busch and Miller came in so mom got to see pictures of them, and since she is related to the lady who adopted Sierra and Sebastian, mom got to see pictures of them too (everyone is getting so big - and Sierra appears to be slightly crossed eyed). Both of them like us on facebook so we hope to see some updates.

Friday afternoon mom moved Basil and Saffron from the bathroom to the playpen. They haven't been out yet, but Amelia finds them fascinating.

Yes, Amelia is ON the playpen in that first picture.

Amelia was in baby jail with the kittens at Petco and was great with them. Since Friday night Amelia has been out and about with us all the time. Mom let her out way early on Friday am when Amelia decided she didn't want to be in the playpen by herself. Amelia spent part of Saturday night in there with the kitts (she wanted the canned food) but in the middle of the night was crying to get out. She hasn't been too bad to sleep with so far.  MOL

Random Fridays....

Our friends at Perfectly Parker are asking for our help making people and animals aware that November is Diabetes Awareness Month.

Our friend Bella over at Paws and Effect even features a "sugar kitty" each week looking for a home. Bella is diabetic herself and has made it her mission to debunk the myths and show people that having a pet with it isn't such a big deal.
~~~~~~~~~~~
So with Maverick and Goose at Petco, mom is faced with a decision.....Amelia is now on her own in the playpen in the living room. Basil and Saffron are in the bathroom. Hmmmmm
~~~~~~~~~

Gonna be a busy weekend here.....Petco's adoption weekend is this weekend and rather than just Sunday, the manager asked mom to come both days. So hopefully we will have adoption news on Monday. In the meantime, she has to get organized so she can get over there with the three kittens from here and all her stuff.

Our guys in green aren't playing football this weekend. Mom says they have a "bye". If they are just off for the week, we have no idea why it is called a "bye". Peeps are weird.

that wasn't the plan....

Since we don't actually get many adoptions while the kittens are hanging out here, mom decided to take Oliver up to Petco on Saturday morning.

Luke was up there by himself and acting all needy since his brother Linus was adopted. We aren't sure why Luke is still up there - he is super sweet and outgoing.

Now, we know.....we always recommend slow introductions. Separate space, lots of time. So, do as we say, not as we do. Mom put Oliver in with Luke. And Luke wasn't very happy about it.....there was some name calling but it didn't go beyond that.

However, mom got a text on Sunday morning. Luke was VERY NOT HAPPY with Oliver being in the same cage. So, Oliver is back here with us again..... so much for that plan.  We think Luke would be fine in a house with other animals, but obviously need a much slower introduction with more space. MOL

weekend wrapup....

Well, if you follow us on Facebook, you have seen this guy:

Yep, mom offered to "baby" sit for the weekend. The little guy doesn't have a name, but mom thinks she may try to christen him Logan (after the Wolverine). If you look close at the second picture, you can see his back legs. One foot is a little crooked, but the other back leg is pretty curled in toward his body. The person who brought him to the rescue saw his mom carry one kitten away. Another kitten (with deformities also) had been killed by something. And then this little guy. We have the woman keeping an eye out for mom and the other kitten. In the meantime, he is eating very well and is a joy. Mom has enjoyed having him here. Oh, and that other kitty she got a Blog Paws as part of a microchip demonstration.  Mom calls him Floyd (if you are old enough, think about it and feel free to laugh....for the rest of you, mom just sighs).

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our boy Screech was adopted on Saturday. The family has a 13 year old daughter and a 3 year old Bichon. We wish him well and know the girl will spoil him rotten.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Recognize these kittens:

What about now:
Yep - that is Nasa and Orbit.  :)  They are finally up for adoption at the shelter. Nasa (now known as Hubble as they got the names backwards) took a while to grow the fur back after being so sick. But the change to Orbit shocked mom.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Miller went back to Petco on Sunday. He is in the top cages with Busch. Stella moved downstairs with Sorcha. And while mom sat there for the adoption event....  NO ONE was happy about it.  MOL  Busch hissed at Miller, Miller growled at Busch. Sorcha and Stella spent some time calling each other names as well. But, by the time mom left for the day, everyone had settled down.
weekend update.....
No transports this weekend. There was some cool air on Friday and Saturday so mom turned off the cool air machine and opened the windows!!!
Sunday was the monthly adoption event at Petco. Stella, Busch and Miller are still up there. After mom got set up, she notice Miller and Busch sitting next to each other - and Miller is a LOT bigger than Busch. The manager up there is a dog person with NO cat skills. He mentioned about separating the kittens. Mom asked why and he said that two of the kittens seemed to be hurting the other one. Mom snickered.....the boys are picking on Stella and she is a screamer - but they aren't hurting her. So no, they won't be separated.
Stella looking out at the world
Mom took the S kittens up there with her. Sorcha and Screech will go for their spay/neuter surgery on Wednesday so mom figured if someone fell in love with them, it wouldn't be a long wait to send them home. Siobhan and Sierra were in baby jail - the other two were in the Petco cages (cause mom figured they would be able to get over baby jail).
Busch is super cool and super sweet - where is his family????
Miller (back) and Busch (front - check out those ears)
July is usually a slow adoption month, but we wish there were families stepping up for the beer kittens before they get much bigger. They are dog friendly and just a nice group of kittens.
Just One Day....
Please join Just One Day as so many groups take one more step toward adoption and away from killing animals simply due to overpopulation. Don't get us wrong, we know there is a long way to go to get to a no-kill nation. But....if we can do it for THIS one day - and then another one day.....we can get there.
Check out there website to check out rescues in your area (you can search by state). Then please do what you can to support them - not just today but every day. We saw this morning on facebook that they have over 1200 shelters/rescues that took the pledge!!
Our rescue Colony Cats is on the list.  New Beginnings Animal Shelter is as well.  Sadly, those are the only two groups in our immediate area that took the pledge. We wish we could say there were more groups, but we are VERY proud of these two for standing up.
~~~~~~~~~
Triscuit, Busch and Killian are up at the Petco store. Technically all the boys are ready to go, but mom doesn't like kittens being alone, so she kept Miller to keep Stella company. Though the way those two were wrestling the other night, we suspect Stella may have been perfectly happy to have had Miller stay at the store too. MOL

weekend wrapup.....

Well, the transport ended up being a bust. MOL Mom got to the pickup point (the v-e-t) to get the dog and her phone rang. It was the rescue lady calling to apologize cause she forgot to call mom the night before to let her know it was cancelled due to lack of drivers at the other end. Oh well....mom got breakfast out of it (and hey Connie - she had a krispy kreme too....nom nom nom).

The adoption event was pretty slow. Mom swears that the corporate people don't check a calendar when they set these things up. Oh well. The boys stayed up at Petco and mom hopes someone will see them in the next day or so and fall in love. They are in the cage with Cookie and it is pretty funny. Cookie is slowly learning how to play and is treating the kittens like very active cat toys. No rough stuff - and it is funny to see Samoa egg her on at some points.  :)

Triscuit spent the entire event snoozing in mom's arms. She didn't stay at the store...check back tomorrow for more on that.

The space kittens are getting bigger every day. Three of them were out of the bed the other day nursing. When mom went back later to check, only one was out. Sure, Rapunzel COULD have put them back, but mom has her doubts.  Mom did see tiny baby teeth on one of the tabby girls, but they will be nursing for a while yet.

Rapunzel goes Wednesday morning for a vaccine update and the kittens will get weighed. Momma cat is sneezing some, so mom will get that checked out too. Not sure how much can be done at this point so long as Rapunzel is still eating and doing ok since the kitts would be exposed to whatever she would be given.

We got news.....

First, thanks for all the reposting, and facebooking and tweeting about the request for help yesterday. Sparkle posted about it on her facebook page and a very nice lady stepped up and offered to help. The CB posted the info as well. We sent the info to the head of the rescue.....we will keep you posted as we find out more. But once again - ALL OF YOU ROCK!!!!  All mom knows about the kitty is that it is a nice brown tabby that got shunted around due to divorce. But rather than call the rescue, someone in the family took the kitty to a local shelter. We are disappointed by that - and by a shelter that will check for a microchip and call the rescue and then not give them much time to get the kitty out.

And in other news, mom has the "I am freezing, where's the blanket, get off my lap cause I'm gonna barf"s......we are baffled about how much can come out of the mom based on the fact that not much is going IN to the mom.  And mom says that tripping over kittens in the bathroom has been taken to a new level. Next house - more bedrooms. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had two adoptions from Petco this weekend:
Tiger went home Friday night. He is an 8 month old short hair brown tabby. Mom said he was super sweet, very adorable, loved by mom and everyone at Petco, and....dumb as a box of rocks. :)  His new family said "who cares?" And his new mom said he will fit right in....seems the 2 dogs in Tiger's new house aren't rocket scientists either. :) His new mom sent us an update:
"I just wanted to send a quick up date on Tiger, now known as Puddy.  (We’re Seinfeld fans and feel he is a perfect feline version of Elaine’s boyfriend David Puddy).
Anyway, he has made a seamless transition into our lives.  The first night he slept with A (2).  He lets the girls have their way with him while incessantly purring. He is probably the happiest cat I’ve know.  :) Last night after a busy day of none stop play and relentless exploring, he went to bed right at 8:30p with the girls. Although he couldn’t quite make up his mind which girl to sleep with and jumped between beds during stories.  He has met the dogs and could care less that the smallest one out weighs him by at least sixty pounds."
And...... our bratty kid Emma went home on Sunday!!!!  She has a new mom who works from home and a new kitty brofur who is 8 years old. Mom is certain this is the family that Emma has been waiting for (and the new mom didn't freak out when mom mentioned the fungus).  We love you brat - and are glad you new mom found you!! (and yes, Emma is feeling much better and not limping any more) Oh - and Emma's new mom said she is going to keep her name. :)
