(c) Operate and manage the digital properties of HT Media Ltd. and its subsidiaries.

3. DEFINITIONS

Credit Information (Financial Services): Credit information report and credit score retrieved from Credit Information Companies ("CICs") as your authorised representative.

UGC and Community Data: Comments, likes, bookmarks, survey responses, contest entries, event registrations, feedback, and other information You submit publicly or to us.

Location Data: Approximate location (derived from IP) or precise location if You grant device permission.

Technical and Usage Data: Device details (type/OS/browser/app version, unique identifiers), IP address, page/app views, time on page, clickstream data, search queries, referral information, ad interactions, and data collected via cookies and similar technologies (see Clause 9).

Communication Data: Content and metadata of inquiries/support requests; moderation communications; subscription/account notifications.

How we collect it:

  • Directly from You: Account creation, subscriptions, surveys, events, comments/UGC, financial applications, customer support.
  • Automatically: Through Your use of the Platform (including cookies/SDKs).
  • From service providers/partners (payments, analytics, advertising, SSO, social platforms): based on your explicit consent given by using this website or registering with us.
  • From Financial Institutions and CICs (Financial Services): to facilitate applications and to retrieve your credit information report/score as your authorised representative.
  • From lawful sources and enrichment partners: We may enrich and verify your records using information lawfully obtained from publicly available sources, trusted partners, and service providers (e.g., validating contact details, inferring broad interest categories, improving address accuracy).
  • From HT Media group companies: We may receive limited account, engagement, and subscription metadata from other HT Media group entities for consistent cross brand experiences and relevant offers, in accordance with their privacy policies.

5. PURPOSE OF PROCESSING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We process personal data for specific, explicit, and lawful purposes, including:

Provide and Facilitate Services: Manage profiles; deliver content/features; manage subscriptions/newsletters/alerts/UGC and moderation; process payments; provide support; verify identity where required; offer, process and facilitate Financial Services (Loans / Credit Cards/ Insurance) by Financial Institutions; retrieve and provide your credit information report/score from CICs as your authorised representative basis your profile; provide analysis/insights or educational content based on your credit information; assess eligibility for services.

Identify and Present Relevant Financial Product Offers (Financial Services): Analyse your profile, including credit information where applicable, to present products that may be suitable for you.

Communicate with You: Service messages, confirmations, updates on applications, important notices, and responses to inquiries/support.

Marketing and Promotions: Based on your legitimate interests and your agreement to the Terms, we may send communications about products and services offered by HTDSL, our affiliates, or third parties. You can opt out at any time (see Clause 8).

Analytics and Service Improvement: Understand usage and performance, measure/improve content and ads, conduct audience measurement, develop new features/services, and monitor campaign effectiveness.

Data Enrichment, Personalisation, and Profiling: Enrich data from lawful sources and use profiling to personalise content/recommendations, measure ads/audiences, prevent fraud, and improve Services. Profiling may include creating or updating audience segments (e.g., "business news readers", "markets newsletter subscribers").

Inter Group Cross Selling and Joint Marketing: Subject to your preferences, use your contact information and engagement metadata to present relevant offers from HT Media group companies (e.g., newsletters, subscriptions, events, partner benefits) and run joint campaigns using shared audience segments. You can opt out of cross sell marketing at any time (see Clauses 8 and 17).

Security and Fraud Prevention: Detect, prevent, and investigate fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity; protect Platform integrity; enforce Terms and policies.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and valid requests; cooperate with law enforcement/regulators; establish, exercise, or defend legal rights.

Business Operations: Internal administration, accounting, and record keeping; and in connection with a corporate transaction (see Clause 7).

We will not process Your personal data for purposes other than those specified in this Policy unless you provide fresh consent or as otherwise provided in this Policy and our Terms.

6. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We process Your personal data on the following bases under applicable Indian laws:

  • Performance of a contract (including our Terms of Use and subscription terms) and to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract (e.g., account creation, subscription management, customer support).
  • Your consent (including the explicit consent you give by using or registering on our Platform; you may withdraw at any time via the contact details in this Policy).
  • Compliance with legal obligations and valid legal process.
  • Compliance with judgments or orders (including certain foreign civil/contractual orders as applicable).

7. SHARING AND DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

Service Providers/Partners: Payments, support, hosting/CDNs, analytics, security/anti fraud, advertising/measurement, SSO/social login, notifications/email delivery—under our instructions and appropriate safeguards.

Affiliates and business associates: Limited data (e.g., contact details, subscription status, engagement/campaign metadata, audience segment tags) within the HT Media group for operations, personalisation, inter group cross selling, and joint marketing. We do not share payment card numbers or sensitive authentication data for cross sell purposes.

Data Enrichment and Measurement Partners: we may share or receive hashes, identifiers, or segment tags to enrich, verify, or measure audience data and the effectiveness of our content and advertising.

Third Parties for Content/Ads/Functionality to provide content, ads, functionality, and measurement.

Financial Institutions (Financial Services): To process applications for products or services you choose or express interest in, and to enable otherwise eligibility assessment and processing.

Credit Information Companies (CICs) (Financial Services): To retrieve your credit report/score with your explicit consent and as your authorised representative.

Authorities/Legal Processes: Where required by law or in response to valid legal process.

Corporate Transactions: In connection with mergers, acquisitions, financing, sale of assets, or similar events.

Protection of Rights/Safety: To investigate/prevent potential violations, suspected fraud, or threats to safety.

We do not allow third parties to use your personal data from our Services to train, fine tune, or improve general purpose AI/ML systems without a written licence and applicable consents.

10. DATA SECURITY

11. DATA RETENTION

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes in this Policy or as required by law. When no longer needed, we securely delete, destroy, or anonymize it per law and internal policies. If You delete Your account or unsubscribe, we act per legal requirements and our retention schedules.

Credit Information (Financial Services): On withdrawal of your consent, we will promptly destroy, purge, and erase such Credit Information.

12. DATA TRANSFER

Your personal data will be stored on servers located in India. We do not transfer personal data outside India unless strictly necessary for service provision. In such cases, we ensure appropriate safeguards and a level of protection comparable to Indian standards. Where data is processed outside India, the same shall be deleted from servers outside India and brought back to India within 24 hours of processing.

13. LINKS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES/SERVICES

Our Platform may link to third party websites, financial institutions, and services not operated by us. Their privacy practices/content are not under our control.
