Recent projects from government partners have required a higher level of technical skill. The Fellowship is designed for those who are ready to serve as technical contributors to their government offices. Given the wide range of roles, we do not evaluate applicants on a defined set of tools and skills. We encourage applicants to explore past presentations on our Github to see how previous Fellows applied their technical skills in their roles.
We recognize that experience comes in many forms and isn’t limited to work experience. We encourage you to highlight any projects that demonstrate your technical abilities. In addition to technical experience, consider sharing other experiences that demonstrate your commitment to public service, social impact, leadership, or mentorship. (Our resume format is designed for you to show this!)
-
Fellows are mission-driven, independent problem solvers who are excited to serve their communities, want to take initiative as technical contributors, and can comfortably navigate ambiguity and an ever-changing pace of work in government. They are also excellent communicators who can make technical concepts digestible for non-technical audiences and work with a wide range of stakeholders.

Matching and referrals are based on providing the best match for the needs of our government partners. Be sure to highlight your technical expertise (i.e., skills, tools, languages, frameworks, and practices) throughout your application, as these will be the basis of our matching and referral process.
While you will not have a chance to select a specific government office to work with, you will have the opportunity to confirm or decline a match during the referral process. You will receive more information about your matched role to help you make an informed decision.
