Help talk:Writing article introductions

From ArchWiki

IIRC, @Hanabishi (and, maybe some other seasoned editors—sorry, I don't remember their names) fixed my "intro" edits and replaced ArchWiki links with Wikipedia ones. As far as I remember their explanations (in my own words, if your idea was very different—I'm sorry indeed)

introductory paragraphs are for general descriptions, Wikipedia contains general (not Arch-related) descriptions, so Wikipedia links are well suited for introductory paragraphs.

ArchWiki pages are about 'how to use some stuff in Arch Linux', not about 'what is that stuff in general', so ArchWiki pages are not well suited for introductory paragraphs.

With other words—"use Wikipedia links in Into, use ArchWiki links outside an Intro".

So. Do we prefer Wikipedia links in Intro indeed? — Andrei Korshikov (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I don't remember suggesting that. And I don't see reasons to not use ArchWiki links in the introductions. In fact, I think local links should take precedence over Wikipedia.
If you are talking about Special:Diff/841668, that was about completely different matter.

I had exactly the same opinion, then someone fixed me, but that was about a year ago. So, I will prefer local links again:) Thank you!
