  • My understanding is that thwres a a federal limit of like 30% light being blocked for windshields, with most states having stronger regulations.

My state, Mass, only allows any tint in the top 6" for instance. BUT, its really easy to get a waiver, overriding that. All it requires is taking a doctor’s note documenting photosensitivity to the DMV.

Back in highschool, my friend’s mom had glaucoma, and got her car tinted. Because he was on his parent’s insurance, that made her a registered user of his car, and also entitled him to tint his out. He had his windshield tinted to about the darkness of a medium pair of sunglasses.

  • For a lot of people, humidifiers only get brought out when theyre sick, so the hot wet air soothes their lungs and they cough less…

Then there was my grandmother. She had both in her music room, to protect her piano and custom built harpsichord. They were set to keep the humidity in a fairly narrow range to keep her from needing to retune.

The dehumidifier was mounted on the wall, with a hose running into the tank for the humidifier below it, so it kept it topped up with the h2o pulled from the air on rainy days, with another hose running out of that tank at about the 1 gallon mark, that fed through a hole in the floor to the basement sink, to dispose of excess water. Both were wired up to an old school analogue hygrometer, with a control circuit powering each unit when it fell outside of its respective range.

  • Unless im missing something about the design, theres a fairly common bit already on the market that works for this, and Id assume most auto shops already have laying around. My dewalt 50 piece came with one…
    Bit looks like ( https://share.google/KHdg0HfO6zC9bab9O)

That one of those 2 pin spanner wrencheswith one on an arm that swings to adjust size, as far as asshole design security screws go, im not too mad at this… accomplishes what it needs to (keeping some rando with a screwdriver in his pocket from just deciding to undo some exposed screws for ‘fun’, or stealing your car trim) without being so proprietary pwople who arent preppared can’t undo it with tools at hand (like the apple Pentalobe screws, and various triangle and tritip Philips variants, really anything with an odd number of contact points is immediatly more of a pita)

  • In some states that would already be illegal with serious penalties. Like massachusset’s grocers laws.

Iirc the law states customers are entitled to the lowest advertised price (including in store) and a discount or advertised price must be valid and available for 7days (maybe its more, i forget) and if its in print, have a clear start and end time, or its 7 days after last publication/ viewing- so if I see the tag in the store and they switch it out after I pick the item, it would have to be valid- price raises and end of sale tags are a thing eith the end date in bold on them. (Also meaning even if they run out early they have to give you a ‘rain check’ and honor it later when the item comes back in stock)

Penalties are triple the item price up to $20 off the bill at the counter, and thousands in fines and up to 30 days in jail for cashiers/ managers refusing to honor a price.

According to a friend who was the produce department manager at the local grocer, that wasnt the worst of it though- a report of failure to comply (ie a custome not getting the 3 the item discount at time of sale) could trigger a state’s weighs and means audit, the first step of which is them forcing closure of the grocery store immediately for 30 days, which according to him litterally meant them showing up or having the local PD locking out employees to prevent a cover up- so no putting meat in a freezer, veggies back into the fridge, throwing out dieing product so It didnt contaminate the good stuff- basically guaranteeing a loss of everything in the deli and produce sections, easily a $50k+ hit even at our smallish grocery.
