Lemmy world is as bad as reddit at times, especially their own World News. They were legit saying that China was planning to attack the USA via Venezuela and I pointed out that this is ridiculous, China offers no security guarantees to Venezuela, has no military bases there, and that generally speaking Chinese foreign policy is only centered around forming trade relations with other countries and reintegrating territories lost during the civil war. I was massively downvoted and the massively upvoted response said that, and I kid you not, the very fact that China has an aircraft carrier in its military is proof that they plan to attack the US via countries like Venezuela. That was the whole argument. Leaving Reddit does not escape McCarthyite delusion.

What even is China’s strategy? The US is clear in its own policy documents that its strategy is to pick off all of China’s closest ideologically-aligned friends one-by-one, from weakest to strongest, and once they have succeeded in that, this will give them a basis to then completely isolate China. China’s strategy seems to be to “strongly condemn” the US.

I think they’re integrating into a lot of economies, I don’t know if the US will be able to isolate them like they could have in the past
