In Microsoft Teams Free, you have the option to block a contact, if necessary.

Important: These steps are for Microsoft Teams Free only. They will not work if you are using Teams with your work or school account. To remove or block a member in Communities in Teams, see Invite and manage community members.

When blocking a contact, they won't be able to:

  • Add you to a one-to-one chat

  • Add you to a new group chat

  • Call you in Teams

  • Add you to a community

Block a contact

  1. Open Microsoft Teams Free.

  2. From the Chat tab, hover over the person you want to block.

Tip: If you can't find the contact you're looking for, you can use Search at the top of the window to find them.

  3. Select More options More options button.

  4. Select Block Teams block contact.

Notes:

  • If you block someone who is in one of your group chats, their messages will still be visible in that group. You will need to remove the participant from that group to stop receiving their messages.

  • When a file is shared, chat participants can access files with permission settings set to Anyone with this link. Even when you leave a chat, other participants can still have access to shared and uploaded files. You will need to go to OneDrive to stop or change share permissions.
