Instancing

From the Star Citizen Wiki, the fidelity™ encyclopedia

Instancing is a means to create an environment where designers can create tailored content that's tuned to specific group sizes but is also protected from outside player interference. This allows to control the balance within the instance itself, even if getting to the instance and exiting it remains dangerous in regards to PvP.[1]

Siege of Orison for example was designed for about 15 to 30 people, yet up to a 100 players were participating in it.[1] The purpose of instancing is therefore really to create curated content.[1]

It's an evolution of static to dynamic server meshing, using a transition such as an elevator or a quantum jump.[1] The instances can be either open or closed, which are either reserved for a party, or a for a number of slots.[1]

It is to be added to Star Citizen in 2026.[1]

Meanwhile player hangar instances were already added in Alpha 3.23.0 in May 2024.[2]
