During the IFA Shield match, there were slogans shouted against the management, including posters that read ‘The spine is not for sale’ in Bengali. The protest continued after the match, reportedly leading to tensions flaring between the fans and the security — Kolkata Police — in and around the stadium.
What did the letter say?
“We are writing to express our deep concern regarding the unfortunate incidents that occurred following today’s match involving Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
“It is deeply distressing that what began as a moment of celebration for our supporters turned into a situation of unrest. Such occurrences endanger the safety of players, officials, and fans,” the letter, addressed to IFA’s general secretary, read.
“In light of this, we request an immediate report from the IFA and the organising authorities regarding: The sequence of events that led to the unrest; The adequacy and deployment of security arrangements during and after the match; The actions taken by the organisers once the situation escalated; The measures being planned to prevent such incidents in future fixtures.
“We urge the IFA to treat this matter with utmost seriousness and to provide us with a formal explanation at the earliest. Ensuring the safety of players, officials, and supporters remains our priority.”
Mohun Bagan beat United Sports Club 2-0 to reach the IFA Shield final, where it will face arch-rival East Bengal on October 18.
