Silk & Stone is the internet handle of Ben Klug, a ttrpg designer and English PhD.
I approach ttrpgs I design as a way to express and play with a hypostasis of genre or narrative form - a way to work out the operations that make a genre what it is, or which express a particular logic, that the players can take in hand. In this way, I very much believe in system as the point of interest in a tabletop game: the structure of system creates genre, creates what is unique in a game. At their best, ttrpgs can become "that refining fire/ Where you must move in measure, like a dancer" (to appropriate a line from T.S. Eliot) - we move according to the system, and in doing so, it draws out and refines as we desire of it.
