Gaming@lemmy.ml•The oldest Minecraft server, MinecraftOnline, is being shut down by Microsoft
1·4 months ago“offline” (usually pirated) clients can only join offline servers. regular clients that are logged to an account can connect to both online and offline servers.
8bitdo is a good buy. especially if you ever want to use it with a switch.

Gaming@lemmy.ml•When was the last time you actually laughed while playing a game?
11·4 months agoon arc raiders yesterday my squad had another one cornered in a room and we got third partied by a much better kitted one. we asked the people we were trying to kill if they wanted to team up and kill the bigger threat and they agreed. and I warned them that the enemy was waiting outside so we needed to be careful…
they immediately ran outside, turned the corner, and I just saw a bunch of bloody mist coming through the open door. afterwards they all crawled back in on all fours and preceded to get set on fire in the hallway by the enemies.
I was almost crying from how hard I laughed

1·4 months agono, the official server client has a setting called “offline mode” which bypasses the central auth without any mods what so ever, mods are only required to get back custom skins and security features
players could continue playing on their accounts like normal, they just need to do an extra “login” once they enter the server, to verify they aren’t spoofing as someone else

1·4 months agoneither can I honestly, without mojang’s servers as a middleman there would be no account security and no skins, but both of those problems are easily fixed through server side mods/plugins made for that purpose.
this actually pisses me off a whole lot because i’ve hosted minecraft servers for over 10 years, and until recently Mojang had a completely hand’s off approach. the way I see it: if I’m hosting it on my own hardware then Mojang can get their filthy hands off it, only i decide what goes on my own god damn server.
yes we should, we don’t need that shit spreading onto Lemmy, even though they make good laughing stock
back when I played Roblox as a kid it was a small, windows only Lego game. at a certain point the games on the platform because much higher quality (around 2015), and it was great for me as a broke kid who couldn’t afford a better PC or “real” games.
which is why I didn’t say anything when my little brother was asking my parents if he could play it. now I really wish I had because the entire platform is a cesspool of consumerism, gambling, and predators

4·4 months agothis is already how it works for the most part, they just have Microsoft acting as a middle-man for player accounts as a form of DRM. you can remove microsoft from the equation entirely by using “offline mode” which also allowed cracked players to join.
nobody is helpless in pvp games like arc, i’ve squad wiped people who had far higher end gear than me during the play test, and had the same done to me. if you don’t enjoy competition then don’t play a pvp game??
everyone here is a leftist nerd, and the united states is at risk of falling under right-wing fascism.

4·9 months agoit’s supposed to be sticky like a thermite, except it repeatedly stuns an enemy instead of blowing up. I’m kinda hoping it actually arcs instead of just being like a sticky stun grenade
Making a cup of coffee or a smoothie at 11 AM and sitting in silence at my computer or on the couch, then going for a short walk if it’s sunny out. There is a serene stillness at around 11 AM when everyone is at work or already where they want to be, and I can only hear the wind, birds, and my own footsteps.
I just need a break from other people sometimes.

14·9 months agoThat toddler that got shot in a road rage incident a while back. I broke down when I read that the child said “Mommy, my tummy hurts” before he died. I think it hit me so hard because I have a little brother who was around that age at the time.

5·9 months agoNot sure why most games cant/dont do this, but i’ve seen Minecraft shaders use temporal upscaling exclusively on the clouds, reflections, and shadows. while using fxaa for the rest of the image.

although I would prefer to see more secular politicians, if we are going to have a leader who’s religious its good to have more diversity so christians don’t gain too much of a majority
