3·3 days agoYeah but their R sound sits between an R and an L sounds. They don’t have a separate L and R sound. Hence when they transliterate foreign words they use ラリルレロ both for L and R sounds. It’s why Japanese mix up their Rs and Ls when they talk or write a foreign language like English or Spanish. It’s much harder for them to hear the difference since they didn’t grow up hearing L and R as separate sounds. But also the way they learn foreign languages doesn’t help either. Since they use their kana system to learn pronunciations.
But non native Japanese speakers also have a hard time pronouncing the R the Japanese way. It’s like a rolling R but only a single tap to the palate.

7·4 days agoNot really surprising. Honda had shutdown their f1 r&d department completely. They are basically starting from scratch. The only thing they did in the last 3 years was basically tech support for Red Bull.
Because that’s how people speaking Old English would have pronounced it. And we all know how particular 10th century Saxons are about their Linux desktop.

Games@lemmy.world•Saying that hardware price increase is good cause it forces the devs to optimize is not as good as it seems.English
2·5 days agoYeah many gamers assume devs don’t optimize their games because they are lazy. But every dev wants to optimize their games but they can’t when management doesn’t allocate time and money to optimize.

9·5 days agoThat’s how it works on Windows already. You buy a cert from a third party vendor so your setup file can pass Windows security checks and doesn’t show a big warning to the user when they open the setup file.

In my country if you want to buy booze online, you verify your age by logging into this id check service the banks have set up. The bank will only send if the buyer is 18+ or not to the store. So no identification data is send to the store not even the actual age.

Technology@lemmy.world•Open-source game engine Godot is drowning in 'AI slop' code contributions: 'I don't know how long we can keep it up'English
5·7 days agoYeah but that won’t stop people from manually submitting prs made with AI. A lot of the slop isn’t just automated pull requests but people using AI to find and fix “bugs”, without understanding the code at all.
