Generally the US just did nothing helpful at a federal level and the Republican party took an ideological stance against preventative measures like masks or social distancing, which meant a large portion of the country went out of their way to avoid such measures or even ban businesses and local governments from implementing them. Schools and universities had their funding threatened if they required masks. I was a grad student / TA at the time and the most we could do was put up flyers that said “please consider wearing a mask, it’s not required” and 0 of my students wore them. We had elderly professors retire early because they didn’t want to die over such stupidity.

It is, but the amount of math that relies explicitly on ZFC without being about ZFC is relatively little. Most people don’t think about a particular formalism and the shift to a new one would likely be transparent

I think it’s more likely that consciousness is special and LLMs aren’t conscious.

If current LLMs are conscious then consciousness is a worthless and pathetic concept.
This meme does show up for me fine on Sync FWIW

I disagree, it’s not just the setting. I’ve played about 50 hours of it in the last couple weeks and like 250 total, and the entire time I’ve felt its level of polish and detail is unmatched in any game.

Yes, many apps will use a lot of RAM if it’s available, that’s how RAM is supposed to be used. If you have 16GB and a game is actually causing swapping I’d be surprised. An app that can use 20GB isn’t necessarily going to consume all the RAM on a system with under 20GB. Higher memory pressure statistics will mean more aggressive evictions but not necessarily swapping.
I have 64GB so the “you don’t have enough to go around” bit doesn’t apply to me.

Can’t think of a game that really needed more than like 10GB of RAM. It’s all VRAM for textures and even then 8GB is enough

Sometimes you get both. And then it’s really special (especially 8 years later when you can turn the settings up), see RDR2.

Yep, I just double checked and I think it’s all remote connections, not just relayed ones. You can probably get around this by setting up a wireguard tunnel or something to make Plex think you’re connecting locally, but it’s definitely going to be easier to just use Jellyfin if you haven’t already set that up

IIRC it’s a charge to use their relay servers, which you only need if you don’t have a direct connection to your media server. Setting up a direct connection isn’t always easy or possible especially for non-technical users, and does come at some small expense to Plex, so it’s not that weird to be a paid feature. But if Jellyfin meets your needs that’s a good thing, it’s probably got a better shot at avoiding enshittification long term.
edit: I was not remembering correctly, even direct (remote) connections are paywalled. You’d need to use some kind of tunnel to make Plex think you’re connecting locally.

It’s not wrong. The idea that “WoW is getting easier because it is coming to consoles” is false. That’s what the title says. It’s just awkwardly written.
The DVD cover looks very wholesome, I was also a “victim” of this. Great time as a kid
Highly effective unless the universe really does revolve around you.
There are non-standard models of arithmetic. They follow the original first-order Peano axioms and any theorem about the naturals is true for them, but they have some wacky extra stuff in them like you mention.
The calls to return to normalcy came at the height of pandemic related deaths and so we stopped testing, stopped reporting, and pretended the pandemic was over when it wasn’t. I will never forget when a large portion of the population decided the lives of the vulnerable mattered less than “normalcy.”
